Chapter S
“Are you really going through with this?” Julian’s friend asked uneasily. “How will you explain this to Phoenix?”
Julian lowered his head, answering after a long pause, “Phoenix will understand. Right now, saving Elise is more important.”
Seeing his friend about to object further, Julian’s voice sharpened with anger.
“If you don’t want to help me save Elise, then leave. I’ll handle things with Phoenix.”
His friends fell silent.
Sitting in the car en route to the wedding venue, Julian felt strangely uneasy.
Phoenix’s words before he left troubled him–he couldn’t shake the feeling he’d missed something important, as if she might leave him. But Julian quickly shook his head, pushing down his anxiety.
Phoenix had been with him so long and loved him so deeply–she would never leave him.
Recalling his friend’s concerns, Julian felt a pang of guilt. He took out his phone and messaged Phoenix:
[Baby, I’ll take you on vacation when I get back.]
Phoenix usually replied to his messages instantly, but this time Julian stared at the screen for a long while without receiving a response.
His suppressed uneasiness surfaced again.
Just as he was about to call her, the car stopped.
“Julian, we’re here.”
Hearing his friend, Julian immediately put away his phone.
He’d explain to Phoenix later–right now, Elise was more important.
The hotel doorman didn’t dare stop Julian. “Mr. Blackwood, are you here for Ms. Elise’s wedding?”
Hearing the word “wedding,” Julian’s eyes darkened, his tone turning cold.
“Show me the way.”
The doorman dared not question further, quickly leading Julian to the banquet hall.
Inside, Elise wore a wedding dress, yet showed no signs of being forced into marriage.
“Elise, will this really work?” her father asked, concerned about the lack of disruption so far.
Just then, a server whispered something in Elise’s ear.
A triumphant expression crossed her face.

“Dad, don’t worry. I’ll be with Julian Blackwood very soon.”
Her father nodded, reassured.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the bride!” the emcee announced.
Elise immediately adopted a sorrowful expression, tears welling in her eyes.
At that moment, the banquet hall doors burst open, and Julian’s voice rang out:
“Just try to have this wedding–I dare you!”
On cue, Elise’s father tightened his grip on her arm, deliberately raising his voice:
“You’re not running away! No matter who comes, you’re getting married today!”
Elise struggled desperately. “Dad, I don’t love him! I won’t marry him!”
Seeing Elise’s apparent distress, Julian rushed forward, taking her into his arms.
“This engagement is void. Blackwood Enterprises will cover any losses to both parties.”
With that, Julian swept Elise into his arms and strode toward the exit.
“Julian, I’m so glad you came to save me. I was afraid I’d really have to marry someone I don’t love,” Elise clung to his neck, her face tear–streaked.
Seeing her like this, Julian felt even more protective. “Elise, I won’t let you marry him.”
“If this marriage falls through, my father won’t forgive me.”
Julian reassured her softly, “It’ll be fine. Blackwood will partner with your family. We’ll cover any losses.”
Elise responded emotionally: “Julian, thank you so much. I really didn’t know what to do.”
Julian carried Elise to the car waiting outside the hotel.
“I’ll take you home first, then handle the fallout.”
Elise suddenly seemed to remember something, feigning surprise:
“Julian, won’t Phoenix be upset about your impulsive wedding rescue? It’s all because of me, and she’s carrying your child… should I come with you to explain?”
Julian recalled Phoenix’s earlier questions about Elise, fearing misunderstandings. “No need. You’ve had a long day, rest well. Phoenix isn’t the petty type. She’ll understand.”
Julian’s decision left Elise with nothing more to say.
Though she was dying to see Phoenix’s reaction when she learned Julian had crashed her wedding.
After dropping Elise home, Julian specifically detoured to Phoenix’s favorite bakery, buying a small cake.

“Baby, did our little one behave today? I bought your favorite cake, though you shouldn’t eat too much…”
Julian began speaking the moment he entered the house, but received no response.
