Chapter 6
His grandma sighed, her voice thick with disappointment.
“I was the one who Arranged your marriage. I knew you still had feelings for Zoey, but I never imagined you’d stoop this low!”
She thrust the documents forward. “Thank God I left Stella an out. The document has your signature, and Stella came to me just yesterday to sign hers. Your marriage is over. She’s no longer your wife!”
The words hit Nathan like a thunderbolt. He frantically flipped to the last page–there was Stella’s signature.
“There’s no way she’d agree to divorce me!” He scoffed, voice cracking. “You know how she is, Grandma–always groveling for my attention. Why would she sign this?”
Zoey slithered forward, oozing fake concern:
“Grandma, you’ve got it wrong. Stella was having fun with us. She climbed into that crystal box herself–it was all part of the surprise!”
Nathan’s grandma frowning fiercely.
“Don’t think I don’t know about you seducing a married man! Did you think just because I’ve been in the hospital, you could | do as you pleased? Nathan don’t have the final say in this family yet!”
“How much of this auction was your idea? I think you know exactly what you’ve done!”
Zoey shrank back, wisely shutting her mouth.
Seeing his grandmother’s resolve, Nathan switched tactics, voice softening to a whine.
“Fine, we’ll stop the games. Just tear up the papers, Grandma. I’ll let Stella out right now–no need for all this drama, right?”
Looking at his casual appearance, Grandma’s voice turned ice–cold: “No need! I’ve already rescued Stella. She’s free now. I’ve sent her to her ex–boyfriend! In a few days, she might be someone else’s wife!”
Nathan stumbled back several steps, unable to believe his ears.
“Grandma! How could you push your own granddaughter–in–law away? She’s my
wife!”
Grandma narrowed her eyes: “You dare call her your wife? I’ve never seen a husband behave like you!”
She spat the next words like poison. “You…you’re a disgrace to the Carter family!”
Just then, the hostess presented all the auction items.
Grandma glanced at them coldly, then looked at Zoey.
“Take it all.”
As Zoey gasped, she turned to Nathan.

Chapter 6
“You’ve always wanted this gold digging snake? Marry her then–just keep your disgusting games private next time. You may not care about your reputation, but I do!”
With that, she signaled her attendant and stormed out,
Zoey nearly squealed with delight, clinging to Nathan’s arm.
“Nathan! Did you hear that? Grandma actually approved of us! Isn’t this wonderful? No more sneaking around!”
His buddies swarmed in, clinking glasses like hyenas at a feast:
“Unexpected blessing! Congrats!” One crowed, sloshing champagne. “You hated Stella’s clingy ass–now you’re free to marry your real queen!”
Another snorted. “Damn right! That desperate bitch finally did something useful for once. Silver linings, am I right?”
Laughter and toasts filled the air.
Zoey nestled against Nathan, playing with the expensive jewelry Grandma had given her–already acting like the lady of the house.
Just as everyone was celebrating, Nathan, who’d been silent, suddenly spoke:
“I’m not marrying you.”
