Chapter 11
Chapter 11
After that day, the professor’s wife whom Ashley had been involved with came to the university and presented evidence in front of the entire student body.
It was undeniable proof of their inappropriate relationship.
Ashley begged her for forgiveness, begged Ethan, begged her ex–boyfriend, begged the professor.
No one could save her.
Ashley’s actions were publicly condemned, and she was eventually expelled from the university.
At the same time, Ethan and his team’s project was withdrawn by NYU.
Countless criticisms were directed at them.
The more enviable they had been as a couple, the more repulsive they became.
The news spread throughout the international student community. Ethan, overwhelmed by the negativity, decided to withdraw from NYU and return home.
The day he left, he came to find me one last time.
He looked exhausted.
He was no longer the sunny, handsome boy he used to be.
“Sarah, you asked me to remember why I liked you. I never forgot. I remember you always helped me, defended me in front of my parents and teachers. You won me over little by little. Sarah, I always remembered your kindness.”
How pure our love had been back then.
He was going through a rebellious phase, his family was facing difficulties, and he was constantly breaking school rules and getting punished.
It was me who pleaded with his teachers and parents, trying to prevent him from being abandoned.
I told them he was a good person, deep down.
Back then, all the adults loved obedient and well–behaved kids like me, so they softened their stance and eventually forgave
Ethan.
But they also warned me to stay away from “troublemakers” like him.
That was the first time I disobeyed my teachers and parents. I stood by his side, no matter what.
He saw that I could handle difficult teachers, so he got used to being with me.
And that’s how we stayed together through high school.

Chapter 11
I got into university on my own merit, while he got in through connections.
The closer I got to Ethan, the more trouble I faced.
But back then, because of love, I wasn’t afraid of trouble.
I had the courage to fight against the negativity.
But now, I truly didn’t love him anymore. Even the memories we shared no longer mattered.
After he finished speaking, I simply nodded.
“Let’s not see each other again.”
We would never see each other again.
John watched from upstairs and sighed. “He saw your brilliance, so he came back to win you over.”
Thinking back to everything that had happened, I asked him, “Are beautiful people inherently entitled to less effort?”
“Everyone has their own strengths. Some are beautiful, some are intelligent.”
“But as you go through life, you’ll realize that ability is more important than appearance. Your time and energy are limited. Instead of focusing on how to become more beautiful, it’s better to focus on your skills and your career. The rewards are much greater.”
Eventually, I overcame my insecurities.
Not through empty words of comfort.
But through gradual improvement and earning the respect of others.
No one attacked me for looks anymore.
my
When people mentioned me, it was usually with words like “knowledgeable,” “intelligent,” “capable,” and “outstanding.”
I looked into the distance and smiled.
I deserved better.
I deserved a brighter future.
