Chapter 20
Six months later, Harper and Ethan held their wedding.
The wedding venue was decorated entirely in a racing theme, which Ethan had spent two months carefully preparing
For this wedding. Ethan followed Harper’s wishes.
He didn’t invite business associates, only close friends and family.
As the bride and groom toasted guests, Mrs. Carter looked approvingly at Harper in her wedding dress, gently patting her hand:
“Don’t rush to have children. Ethan specifically told us not to pressure you if you’re not ready.”
Harper turned to look at the handsome man beside her.
He wore a black suit, his features sharp and handsome. Noticing her gaze, he gave her a warm smile.
Harper felt a warmth in her heart:
“Mom, we’ll see how things go.”
When Harper reached her mother’s side, Mrs. Mitchell was already crying uncontrollably, dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief.
“When you were three, I imagined this day would come, but now that it’s here, I still can’t bear to let you go.”
The usually calm and collected Mr. Mitchell also had tears in his eyes.
Harper looked at her parents, caught between laughter and tears.
Ethan was very thoughtful, choosing a marital home close to her parents–only a ten–minute drive away.
Left with no choice, she said:
“I’ll come stay a few days every month.”
That day, news of the Mitchell–Carter wedding instantly topped trending topics.
Netizens flooded social media with blessings.
“Aww, I heard Mr. Carter was Harper’s childhood crush. So envious!”
“It’s also because Harper knew when to cut her losses. Those toxic eight years–not everyone could let go so easily.”
“Mr. Carter is so sweet and attentive. I heard the entire wedding venue was designed according to Harper’s preferences. Another day of envying other people’s relationships.”
“Hey, Mr. Carter is giving away money on another platform! Quick, enter the code!”

Chapter 20
A week later, Ethan accompanied Harper to the prison where Serena was being held.
After speaking with the warden, Harper soon met Serena.
Serena wore loose prison garb, having lost weight. Her eye sockets were sunken, with prominent dark circles.
Her once–envied long black hair had become dry and frizzy.
Seeing Harper as her visitor, anger surged in Serena.
She examined Harper up and down, desperately trying to find something to feel superior about.
But Harper looked exceptionally well, and under Ethan’s loving care, she radiated one word–happiness.
Serena couldn’t find a single detail suggesting Harper was doing poorly.
She dug her nails into her palm, her face full of resentment.
Why?
She would spend thirty years in prison, while Harper lived freely and well!
Noticing Serena’s envious gaze, Harper took out recent Mitchell Group financial reports and showed them to Serena through the glass.
“See this? After a year of my efforts, the Mitchell Group has turned profitable.”
After a pause, she took out her phone, displaying photos from her wedding with Ethan a week earlier.
“Ethan and I got married. I should actually thank you. Without your constant sharing on TikTok, telling me all the things Finn did for you, I might not have been so determined to leave him.”
“Who would have thought I’d end up marrying my childhood crush? When people heard about our marriage, everyone congratulated us.”
Harper spoke with adorable pride.
Ethan glanced at his little wife, his handsome face full of indulgence.
He had never seen this “pettily vindictive” side of Harper before–truly adorable,
Serena was so jealous her eyes practically sparked with fire.
In her eyes, Harper had always been inferior to her.
It was because she had gone abroad and rejected Finn that Harper had briefly captured Finn’s attention.
But why would this ordinary woman make Finn willing to shield her from acid, and Ethan eager to marry her?!
Serena narrowed her eyes and scoffed:
“Harper, no matter how much you show off, you can’t deny one thing–I received your bone marrow, which is why I’m alive

and well today.”
“In the dead of night, when you think about this, I bet you’re so angry you can’t sleep, right?”
Ethan’s dark eyes flashed with anger.
Just as he was about to respond, Harper grabbed his hand and squeezed it gently.
Then she smiled at the smug Serena behind the glass.
“You have zero conscience, which actually puts my mind at ease. I heard you’re being bullied in prison. If I were to meet that heavyset female inmate and ask her to take special care of you…”
Before Harper could finish, Serena’s face turned ashen with fear.
She glared at Harper and shrieked:
“You wouldn’t dare!”
Harper turned to look at Ethan, and they exchanged knowing smiles.
Before coming to the prison, they had done their research.
Serena was not having an easy time in prison.
When the female inmates learned Serena was imprisoned for splashing sulfuric acid on Finn and hurting the person who had donated bone marrow to her, they began ostracizing her.
And that heavyset inmate’s favorite activity was forcing Serena to mime driving a race car-
“Didn’t you claim to be ‘Phantom‘? Show me how you race.”
Every time she was called out, Serena would perform in tears.
Harper’s red lips curved into a wide smile:
“Oh, I absolutely would dare, Serena. You need to keep on living. I’ll visit every few months to check on you.”
With that, Harper ignored Serena’s shouting behind her.
She turned and spoke with the warden, asking to visit a female inmate named Jenny.
That night, when Serena performed her car racing mime, she faced an added challenge.
The heavyset inmate Jenny berated her:
“Mrs. Carter said that Phantom could overtake on curves.”
“Come on, if you’re really Phantom, show me.”
Three years later, Harper gave birth.

Chapter 20
Ethan waited outside the delivery room, holding a bouquet of sunflowers.
Five hours later, the baby was wheeled out first by a nurse,
Ethan didn’t even glance at the baby, and even Mrs. Carter didn’t look at the infant, anxiously grabbing the nurse to ask
“Where’s my daughter–in–law?”
The nurse was stunned to see a mother–in–law so concerned about her daughter–in–law rather than the baby. After a moment, she replied:
“Don’t
worry, both mother and child are fine. The mother is coming out soon.”
When Harper was finally wheeled out, Ethan rushed forward.
Seeing Harper pale and weak in the hospital bed, he tearfully declared for the first time:
“Harper, tomorrow I’m getting a vasectomy. We’re not having any more children.”
Mrs. Carter’s eyes also reddened as she wiped away tears:
“That’s right, no more. It’s too much suffering.”
