Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Finn wept with grief.
This was the first time he truly felt heart wrenching pain.
After a long while, he slowly opened his eyes, the pungent smell of disinfectant assaulting his senses.
Mr. Cooper Senior glanced at him, his voice raspy:
“I called Harper. She said she can meet you, but only if Ethan comes too.”
“She’s busy for the next few days, so she can only meet you at noon three days from now.”
After a pause, Mr. Cooper Senior narrowed his cloudy eyes, his entire body emanating an intimidating aura:
“Are you certain you want to see her? If you agree, I’ll announce that I’m stripping you of your heir position right now.”
“Finn, your emotional inconsistency, your inability to let go–these qualities don’t make for a good heir.”
This was the second time Mr. Cooper Senior had asked.
Even knowing the consequences of his stubborn insistence, Finn persisted:
“Grandfather, I need to see her. Without her, I’ll die.”
“Very well.”
That night, Mr. Cooper Senior publicly announced that Finn was no longer the Cooper heir.
When Harper learned this news, she was having dinner with Ethan. Mia called her.
“Harper, did you hear the news? Mr. Cooper just announced Finn isn’t the heir anymore. Seems like the old man is completely disappointed in him.”
Harper lowered her eyes, pausing as she sipped her soup.
Mr. Cooper Senior had called her that morning, completely setting aside his status.
He first apologized for Finn’s behavior, then sincerely asked to meet her in person to help Finn finally let go.
Harper understood that with the current state of animosity between the Cooper and Carter families, if she didn’t intervene, their relationship might continue to deteriorate.
So she agreed to meet Finn once, with the condition that Ethan accompany her.
Harper lowered her eyes slightly, saying softly:
“I’ve heard that in his youth, Mr. Cooper single–handedly turned around the declining Cooper family. He certainly has a talent for judging people.”

On the other end, Mia agreed:
“There’s more gossip. Mr. Smith recently sold Serena for seven hundred thousand to a nouveau riche man in his fifties with a beer belly and yellow teeth.”
“Serena was forced to register the marriage. I heard she had several meltdowns on the registration day, causing such a scene that the police came.”
“Someone even captured photos of her crying outside the registry office. I have to say, she looked genuinely pitiful and heartbreaking.”
Before Harper could respond, Ethan placed a braised chicken wing on her plate, his lips curving slightly:
“Those who deserve pity often deserve condemnation too. She may cry pitifully now, but she’ll have more reasons to cry later.”
The meeting was set for three days later. Finn didn’t waste time.
To demonstrate his determination to reconcile, Finn had a lawyer draw up a contract transferring all his properties and
luxury cars to Harper.
All Harper needed to do was sign, and all his assets would be hers.
Next, he studied Harper’s preferences, discreetly doing his preparation.
‘After completing these preparations, it was already the third day. Finn rose early to dress himself impeccably, following his
grandfather to the appointment.
In a five–star hotel private room, Finn anxiously watched the door, holding a Bugatti purchase contract.
The server opened the door, and two tall figures entered.
Harper and Ethan walked in hand in hand, both dressed in understated matching gray outfits, radiating happiness.
After sitting down, Harper nodded politely to Mr. Cooper Senior.
Finn stared at Harper’s cold face, feeling as if his heart were being gripped by something, making it difficult to breathe.
When had she stopped smiling at him?
Finn produced the property transfer contract and a handwritten page detailing Harper’s preferences, his voice hoarse:
“Harper, look, I’ve truly reformed.”
“I’m sincerely asking for reconciliation. Can you trust me one last time?”
Harper glanced at Finn’s handwritten page, picked it up, and promptly tore it to pieces, looking coldly at Finn:
“This paper is now torn to shreds. Can you restore it to its original state?”
Finn clenched his fist, trembling as he spoke:
“Everyone makes mistakes. Can’t you give me one chance to reform?”

“I don’t want to. You’re not worth it.”
Harper spoke calmly, reflecting on the events of the past month:
“Finn, I truly loved you once, but now I truly don’t love you anymore.”
Though she appeared gentle on the outside and was often prone to compromise, once she made a decision, she wouldn’t change it.
Even if she hadn’t met Ethan after leaving Finn, she would have chosen to live alone.
Finn’s face grew increasingly pale as Harper continued:
“I truly hope, for the sake of those five years I cared for you, that you’ll stop bothering me.”
“Let’s never see each other again.”
Having said this, Harper didn’t bother to observe Finn’s reaction. Her gaze fell on the silent Mr. Cooper Senior.
“Mr. Cooper, I’ve said what needed to be said. Ethan won’t take any further actions against Cooper Group, and I ask that you remember your promise to me.”
