Chapter 9
Staring at the disconnected call, Finn’s mind was in chaos.
Twelve years ago, Serena had confidently told him she was Phantom.
When Serena described the details of how she saved him on the track, plus the fact they had known each other since childhood, he naturally believed her.
Though he knew Harper loved sports cars, he never realized she raced them professionally.
Thinking back, the day doctors announced his legs were fully healed after five years of disability.
He had embraced Harper, saying with deep emotion:
“Harper, thank you for saving my life.”
Without Harper’s constant care, he might not have survived to see this day.
At the time, Harper had given him a mischievous smile:
“That makes two lives I’ve saved for you.”
He had wanted to ask more, but Serena called, interrupting his train of thought.
Realizing he had been deceived for twelve whole years, Finn was nearly blind with rage!
He strode to the guest room next door and shook the sleeping Serena awake.
In her drowsy state, Finn slapped Phantom’s photo on her face, his hand gripping her delicate neck:
“Serena Smith, you dare lie to me?”
Just seconds earlier, Serena had been half–asleep, but seeing Finn’s fury, she guessed what happened and frantically grabbed the scattered photo on the bed.
After looking, her panic turned to jealousy, so intense she forgot to hide it!
“Impossible! How could a worthless woman like Harper be the legendary Phantom!”
Back then, though Phantom was only sixteen, she was already considered one of Riverside’s top–tier racing legends.
Finn moved closer to Serena, his dark eyes burning with fierce anger.
“I’ve confirmed it. Harper is Phantom, and Phantom is Harper!”
“Serena Smith! You’ve made a fool of me!”
Back at the racetrack, Phantom had been in his racing group.
His car had been sabotaged by an enemy and caught fire. Phantom, about to cross the finish line first, abandoned the

million dollar prize to turn back and risk her life saving him.
After rescuing him, Phantom had cockily lifted her chin:
“Hey! I saved you. Remember to repay me someday!”
That promise of repayment had stayed with him for twelve years!
Yet all along, he had been repaying the wrong person!
With this realization, Finn coldly pushed away the sobbing Serena and issued an ultimatum:
“Serena Smith, move back to your family’s house immediately!”
Ignoring Serena’s pleas, Finn had the butler evict her.
He then called his assistant with an icy tone:
“Investigate Serena’s kidnapping, and that party…”
At an airport in Australia.
The plane landed, and Harper put on a hat to cover the medical bandage on her head.
At the exit, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were already waiting.
Beside them stood a stranger–a man in a gray suit with exquisite, outstanding features.
Delighted to see her daughter after so long, Mrs. Mitchell’s kind face couldn’t hide her joy.
“Come on, Harper, let me introduce you. This is Ethan Carter.”
Harper carefully examined her fiancé.
Warm light fell on him, outlining his sharp, refined features.
The man’s lips were tightly pressed together, a faint smile at the corners of his mouth, yet somehow giving off a sense of
detachment.
“Hello, I’m Harper Mitchell.”
Harper spoke softly.
Ethan narrowed his dark eyes, examining her. His sharp gaze lingered on her hat before he finally replied:
“Ethan Carter, your fiancé.”
An hour later, the black car slowly pulled up to the registry office.
Mr. and Mrs. Carter were already waiting outside.

Seeing Harper, Mrs. Carter’s face lit up with a smile she couldn’t conceal.
Her son had chosen a bride with a tall figure, fair and delicate skin, far more beautiful in person than in photos, clearly well–raised from a young age.
Mrs. Carter grew increasingly satisfied.
She gracefully removed the jade bracelet from her wrist:
“Harper, this was given to me by Ethan’s grandmother when I married his father. Now I pass it on to you.”
Harper immediately recognized the quality of the jade bracelet and felt somewhat overwhelmed.
Just as she was about to refuse, Ethan spoke softly:
“It’s a gift from my mother. Accept it.”
Only then did Harper accept it.
Mr. Carter added:
“I’ve had my secretary transfer some of the Carter family shares to your name, Harper.”
Mr. Carter spoke so casually, as if he were saying he’d given her ten thousand dollars.
But Harper knew the value of Carter family shares.
The Carter family was currently on a rapid rise, a leader in the business world.
These shares were far more valuable than the jade bracelet.
“Thank you, Uncle and Aunt.”
Harper’s eyes reddened with emotion.
Receiving two major gifts at their first meeting showed how highly the Carter family valued her.
Years ago, Mrs. Cooper had also given her a jade bracelet.
But she clearly understood that was earned by caring for the disabled Finn for five full years.
In recent years, as the Mitchell family gradually declined, Mr. and Mrs. Cooper always felt she wasn’t quite good enough.
They had privately expressed hope that Finn would marry the daughter of a prominent family to secure his position.
“Shall we go inside and register?” Ethan reminded her.
“Yes.”
Harper followed Ethan into the registry office.

Fifteen minutes later, it was done.
Harper looked down at the marriage certificate in her hand, momentarily lost in thought.
Ethan spoke beside her:
“I bought a villa in the city center as our marital home. I’ve just sent you the address and door code. The property has only your name on it. Since you’ve just arrived, stay with your parents for the next three days.”
