“Finn! Have you lost your mind? You really went behind Harper’s back and gave her bone marrow to Serena?”
In a private hospital in Riverside, Rebecca Cooper stormed into the room, pointing an accusatory finger at her brother, who sat on the sofa.
Finn rubbed his temples, his handsome face creased with frustration. “Becca, please. Harper and Serena were the only match. I had no choice.”
Rebecca snatched up the medical reports from the table–documents showing Harper had been hospitalized with an infection for half a year–and exploded.
“No choice? You knew damn well Harper’s health was fragile, and you lied to her about having gastritis just so she could take
this risk?”
“Did Serena cast some spell on you? You crashed your car racing to impress her five years ago and ended up paralyzed. Harper was the one who stayed by your side those five years.”
“Now that you’ve recovered, Serena gets dumped back in the country with her illness, and you go behind Harper’s back to give her Harper’s bone marrow. Six months later, Serena is better, and you’re running around with her trying IVF!”
Outside the door, Harper had just finished her discharge paperwork when she overheard Rebecca’s furious words.
Her hand froze against the wall, her smile vanishing as though she’d been plunged into ice water.
Thirty minutes earlier, the doctor had informed her that the post–operative infection had finally cleared, and she could be discharged.
Finn had proposed on the spot. She’d cried with happiness and posted on WhatsApp that it was the happiest day of her life.
Inside the room, Finn hung his head, his dark hair obscuring his eyes, hiding his expression.
“Becca, please help me keep this quiet. Don’t let Harper find out. Serena’s grandmother doesn’t have much time left. Her only wish is to hold her great–grandchild before she passes. I can’t let her die with that regret.”
Rebecca glared at him, her beautiful face contorted with rage.
“What about Harper? Everyone knows she’s been in love with you for eight years!”
“I remember perfectly well that eight years ago, Serena got rejected by Lucas Matthews, and you decided to get revenge for her by approaching Harper to make Lucas jealous since he had a crush on Harper.”
“Now Serena’s pregnant, and Harper’s been with you for eight years. What’s going to happen to her?”
Finn kept his gaze down, and after a long moment, he replied hoarsely:
“I’ve planned everything. Harper will never know about Serena’s pregnancy, As for the future… I’ve grown used to her presence these past eight years. I will marry her…”

Harper didn’t hear the rest. A nurse was heading toward the room, so she lowered her head as if she’d just arrived.
The two inside fell silent, and Rebecca pulled Finn away,
On the ride home, Finn discussed wedding details with Harper, but she didn’t hear a word.
She stared at the passing buildings, feeling nothing but cold emptiness.
