Chapter 84
Summer barely had the door open when Issac pushed past her and rushed inside.
“Charlotte…”
He burst into the living room, his eyes landing on her sitting motionless on the sofa.
The exhaustion in her eyes and the way they instantly went glacial at the sight of him made his throat tighten. “T swear I didn’t know about this morning’s statement,” he said hoarsely.
Charlotte’s face remained expressionless.“And? What exactly did you come here to say?”
Issac sat down beside her.
Charlotte immediately stood an
Charlotte immediately stood and moved to the opposite couch.
Issac didn’t follow. “I’m releasing my own statement tomorrow to set the record straight.”
“Set what straight exactly?” Charlotte asked, her voice sharp with frost. “Are you going to contradict your mother’s fabrications? Or finally admit to your affair with Evelyn?”
Issac wanted to say there was never any engagement with Evelyn, no legitimate relationship, that Charlotte was his lawful wife, and that the photo of her with a man at a hotel was complete bullshit.
Charlotte seemed
to read his thoughts. “Your half–assed explanations will just muddy the waters and create more confusion. You still can’t own up to what you did, can you, Issac?
Issac leaned forward. “If we get back together, all this gossip will eventually fade away on its own.”
Charlotte let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “Your affair with Evelyn isn’t gossip. The crap your mother tried to smear me with–that’s the gossip. Either tell the whole truth or just shut up.”
Issac fell silent, cornered.
People naturally avoid pain and seek advantage–how could he publicly admit to cheating?
Summer had been leaning against the wall, listening quietly.
She casually interjected, “So, Issac, you’re confirming that all the accusations your mother made against Charlotte this morning were completely made up?”
Issac glanced at her.
His dark eyes were somber as a rain–soaked forest.
He seemed to recognize what she was doing but chose not to call her out. With a resigned half–smile, he nodded. “Yes.”

“Your mother was nearly sent to prison because of Evelyn’s schemes, yet now she’s defending her. Don’t you find that bizarre? Do you think the Granthams put her up to it? Or more specifically, Evelyn did?”
“Maybe. It’s possible, I don’t know.”
“So you’re saying that’s the most likely scenario?”
“…Yes.”
“So the whole story is that your mistress was getting slammed online because of that airport video from a few days ago. She was pissed and wanted to clean up her image. So she went to your mother–either through threats or bribes–and together they cooked up these harmful lies about Charlotte. Your mother went public with these claims to make Evelyn look innocent while trashing Charlotte’s reputation. Is that accurate?”
“Yes”
After answering, Issac exhaled deeply. Seeing Summer about to continue, he raised his hand. “Counselor, you’ve probably recorded enough for your purposes by now.”
Summer’s expression turned sheepish.
So he knew.
Of course the CEO of Harmonex wasn’t an idiot. She’d been fishing for incriminating statements, and he’d caught
- on.
What she hadn’t expected was that he would willingly take the bait… Well, the bastard was finally showing a
glimmer of decency…
Charlotte looked at Issac, her expression complex.
“Let’s end this.”
“If we don’t end it, Evelyn will never let go. Today she’s manipulating your mother to trash me. What about tomorrow? Or the day after that? You may not be killing me directly, but I’m dying because of you–what’s the
difference?”
“Whether you genuinely regret it or still have feelings for me–it doesn’t matter. What’s done is done. We can never go back. What’s the point of the three of us staying tangled up in this mess?”
“Once we’re officially over, she’ll have no reason to keep coming after me. And whatever happens between you two will be none of my business.”
“Think about it.”
She spoke without emotion.
Issac didn’t fight back as he had before.
Like a terminal diagnosis finally accepted as incurable, the intense feelings–the resentment, regret, and

anger–gradually settle and eventually disappear.
He sat in Summer’s apartment for a long time. When he left, he hadn’t explicitly agreed or disagreed.
He simply said that if they needed him to join in making a public statement, they should call him.
Issac’s unexpected cooperation left the two women, who had prepared their “nuclear option,” somewhat thrown off
balance.
They had imagined a fierce battle, but before they could even make their move, the enemy had a key defector.
And not just any defector–the central figure himself.
“So what now? Stick to the original plan?: Summer admitted she was softening, deferring the decision to Charlotte.
Charlotte pondered this, then suddenly glanced at the darkening sky outside. “I’m starving. Let’s grab dinner first.”
Always thinking about food, even in a crisis.
Summer couldn’t help but laugh despite everything. “Fine, dinner first.”
At 10 PM that night.
On Harmonex Group’s official social media account, a new response appeared beneath Amanda’s morning
statement.
From Charlotte herself!
A video
response where she faced the accusations head–on!
The internet exploded again within minutes.
Users frantically shared it, gathering like spectators to a celebrity boxing match, consuming the high–society drama as if it were the season finale of their favorite show.
In the video, Charlotte appeared polished but understated. With remarkable composure, she recounted her history with Issac–how they fell in love in high school, overcame family resistance to get married, and how Evelyn had eventually come between them. Her delivery was natural and measured, like someone finally setting the record straight.
She didn’t immediately attack Amanda’s claims.
Though not aggressive, her account was loaded with context.
They’d met at seventeen–meaning they connected as teenagers. Without directly addressing the childhood engagement claim, she made an implied point: why would a high school senior be romantically involved with a child instead of someone his own age?
The “obstacles” they overcame referred to Amanda’s disapproval and difficult demands.
The Moment Let Go My Uncle Escaping the Forbidden Past
By mentioning the timing of the affair and noting that contact with the Granthams only began recently through business, the undermined the claim of a long standing family connection.
Only after establishing this context did she present her evidence.
She had her own text messages, recordings, photos, and documentation
She revealed the full story behind the “exorbitant compensation” demand–it had been mutually agreed upon after Amanda learned of her son’s affair. It wasn’t Charlotte refusing to divorce unless paid.
Regarding the hotel accusation, she noted that Amanda had conveniently edited the surveillance footage. Bur Charlotte had obtained video of her leaving the hotel just nine minutes later–barely enough time to take off a coat let alone have an affair.
The final piece of evidence was Issac’s own admission that his mother’s statements were fabrications.
Despite everything she revealed, she still left Issac one last shred of dignity by withholding the most damning evidence–the affair recordings and compromising photos.
Public opinion shifted dramatically in her favor
And as the internet was exploding with reactions, Charlotte quietly returned to her apartment, packed a small bag. and drove out of the city at 11 PM.
What she didn’t notice were two vehicles following at a careful distance.
