Chapter 29
Silence fell on the other end of the line.
Issac finally spoke. “I was just reacting in the moment. I didn’t mean to-”
“Save it,” every word from him made Charlotte’s stomach turn. “Whether you meant it or not, you still put your hands on me.”
“Fine, fine, it was my fault. It was all my fault. Now tell me where the hell you are. I need to know right
now!”
“I told you, I’ll come back.”
“You’re coming home tonight, or I swear I’ll tear this entire city apart until I find you!”
Issac’s control was clearly slipping.
Charlotte finally relented, saying she’d be home in an hour.
When he went into obsessive mode, he was capable of anything. She couldn’t risk exposing her new place.
As Summer drove her back, she vented. “This piece of shit cheats on you constantly and still acts like he owns you. That temper, that psycho need to control… Charlotte, I’m seriously worried he might snap when he finds out you tricked him into signing those divorce papers.”
Charlotte gazed at the city lights in the distance and replied with dark humor, “Maybe I should keep some arsenic handy–poison him before he strangles me.”

When she arrived home, Issac rushed toward her, his face a mixture of concern and barely contained
irritation.
Charlotte gave him a cold glance and changed her shoes to walk inside.
The moment she bent down, pain shot through her lower back, causing her to wince.
Issac reached out to help her.
“Don’t fucking touch me!” Charlotte recoiled as if his hand were contaminated, willing to endure even more pain rather than accept his help.
Issac’s expression hardened.

He withdrew his hand and followed her into the house, pulling out his phone to show her. “I’ve installed cameras in my office. You can check the feed anytime. What happened today won’t happen again.”
Charlotte was somewhat surprised.
She’d expected him to make excuses as usual. She studied the screen with mock interest. “Afraid I might walk in on your little afternoon delight again and embarrass your precious ‘Sugar Baby?”
Issac tensed. “…There’s nothing going on between us.”
“Look, I admit I find her fun and cute, but only like a sister. She’s at the company because her father asked me to show her the ropes.”
“We’re signing a major deal with Ansonic next week. When the Granthams made this small request, what was I supposed to do? Say no?”
How convenient his justifications were.
Only treating her like a sister, and for the company’s benefit–which just happened to allow him to indulge her every whim, even at the expense of hurting his wife…
When had he become such a transparent liar?
Charlotte felt nothing but disgust as she stared at him. After a moment, she feigned an expression of realization. “Oh, I get it now. Just sisterly love? But didn’t she mention all those nights you spent together? A brother sleeping with his sister–that’s some Game of Thrones shit right there.”
“…I told you, she’s just an impulsive kid who talks out of her ass.”
“And yet you still find that ‘fun and cute.‘ How adorable.”

Issac couldn’t miss her sarcasm. He sighed. “The point is, there’s nothing between us. After your trip, we can start trying for a baby. From then on, you can just be Mrs. Wood, no worries. I promise, the position of Mrs. Wood will always be yours.”
Charlotte stared at him, a smile gradually spreading across her face.
Now she understood perfectly.
The position of Mrs. Wood would always be hers–meaning she should just shut up and look the other way while he screwed around.
But why the hell should she fulfill his wishes?

Chapter 29
He cheated for the thrill, went on vacations with Evelyn, slept with her, watched sunrises together…. He had shattered her heart piece by piece, and now expected her to carry those broken pieces while hearing his children and growing old with him?
How monumentally cruel and selfish this man was.
“Baby, I love you.” Seeing her smile, Issac thought the crisis had passed.
He embraced her forcefully, not allowing any resistance.
So passionate, as if he truly feared losing her.
Charlotte’s heart remained cold as stone.
The clearer she saw him, the more determined she became to leave.
Issac helped her upstairs.
He called a doctor to examine her back injury, only relaxing when assured no bones were damaged.
When Charlotte went to the bathroom, he followed. “Let me help you.”
“…Not if you were the last person on earth.”
If he dared touch her with hands that had been all over another woman, she really might poison his
coffee.
Issac sensed her continued resistance to his closeness. It irritated him, but he didn’t want to upset her
further today.
“I’ll be right outside. Call if you need me.”
“Sure thing.”
She nodded with a tight smile.
I’d rather crawl over broken glass than ask for your help.
When Charlotte emerged in her nightgown, Issac was still waiting outside.
The fragrance from her freshly showered body reached his nose. Her skin was flushed and dewy, shoulders and collarbone exposed, her slender waist tantalizing as she moved.
Issac’s eyes darkened with desire.
Chapter 29
She walked to the bed, ready to sleep, but noticed his predatory gaze. “My back is killing me. If you’re thinking about getting laid tonight, you’re out of luck.”
Issac wrapped his arms around her from behind, bending to kiss her shoulder, giving her no chance to escape. “I’ll be gentle…”
“I’m exhausted and in pain. For God’s sake, I’m not in the mood!”
“…” Issac was frustrated seeing her complete lack of interest, but he couldn’t exactly force her.
He released her. “Get some sleep, then.”
He turned and left the room, his face a mask of displeasure.

Charlotte had said she wouldn’t go to the office the next day, and she meant it.
She contacted her project team privately, invited them out for dinner, and broke the news of her
resignation.
Everyone expressed deep regret and reluctance to see her go.
The entire company knew she was the CEO’s girlfriend. At first, some had questioned whether she’d slept her way to the top, but as she successfully negotiated one project after another–demonstrating both management and technical expertise–those doubts vanished. Over the years, she’d shown even more dedication to the company than the CEO himself. Each time a project was secured, no one celebrated
harder than she did.
Privately, people said she was determined to claim the position of official wife.
And now she was suddenly resigning…
“I hate to leave you guys in the lurch like this, but for personal reasons, I can’t stay at Harmonex anymore. Keep crushing it, and don’t hesitate to call if you need anything. My door’s always open.”
Charlotte raised her glass in a toast.
The Team Three leader broke down in tears. She had worked with Charlotte the longest and had the closest relationship with her.
With Charlotte gone, the project department was losing its backbone.
But everyone understood her decision. The CEO had brought that Grantham vixen into the company, and
a few days ago, Charlotte had walked in on them getting intimate in his office. Rumor had it that Evelyn had been practically naked. How could Charlotte not be heartbroken?

The dinner was filled with bittersweet emotions.
As it ended, people asked about Charlotte’s future plans.
When she said she hadn’t decided yet, someone suggested, “You might want to check out Dominex & Co. The heir who just returned from Wall Street is recruiting talent. Word is they still haven’t found the right person for Chief Executive Secretary.”
