I felt his body stiffen for a moment before he hugged me back even tighter.
In that instant, I understood why Jasper had agreed to this engagement.
It wasn’t out of duty but out of a love he had cherished for years.
For the first time, I felt the tension in my heart case, replaced by a profound sense of safety and trust.
Jasper placed a tender kiss on my forehead and, after hesitating for a moment, asked softly,
“Laura, would you be willing to go abroad with me and start a new life together?”
I turned to look at Jasper Winston and nodded seriously. “I would.”
In the days that followed, I focused on preparing for my work transition while also getting ready to leave the
country.
Meanwhile, after the engagement banquet, Lincoln’s relationship with Rosemary became increasingly strained.
Mrs. Winston was determined to have her grandchild officially recognized by the family, but both Mr. Winston and Lincoln refused to allow Rosemary to marry into the Winston family.
Lincoln, however, remained persistent. Every day, he showed up punctually, trying to intercept me.
It wasn’t until Jasper applied pressure that Mr. Winston finally confined Lincoln to the family estate.
Not long after, news spread that Lincoln and Rosemary were getting married.
On the day Jasper and I were set to leave for the airport to fly abroad, Lincoln somehow found out about our departure and, still unwilling to give up, came after us.
While I was in the airport lounge buying coffee, I felt someone grab my hand from behind, spilling coffee all over
- me.
I turned around angrily, locking eyes with Lincoln’s bloodshot gaze.
Dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, he nonetheless exuded a sense of utter defeat.
“Laura, are you really leaving with my uncle and never coming back?”
“Don’t go with him, please. I’ve realized my mistakes. I won’t get married–I swear!”
Only then did I realize that today was supposed to be the day he and Rosemary were registering their marriage.
After the embarrassing display at the engagement banquet, Mr. Winston decided not to hold a wedding ceremony for them, nor did he have the face to invite Jasper and me to attend.

Now, Lincoln was stubbornly begging me not to leave.
When he saw that I remained unmoved, he even tried to drag me away forcefully,
But in the next moment, I was pulled into a warm embrace.
It was Jasper, who had returned after completing our check–in process and, upon not finding me, came looking for
- me.
When he saw Lincoln grabbing me, he didn’t hesitate for a second. With a clenched fist, he landed a punch squarely on Lincoln’s face.
“Lincoln! Who gave you the right to lay a hand on my wife?!”
Blood trickled from Lincoln’s mouth, but instead of anger, he wore a twisted smile.
“Uncle, what are you so afraid of?” he taunted.
“You’re so eager to take Laura abroad. Are you scared she’ll rekindle her feelings for me?”
“After all, she and I were together for so many years…”
Before Lincoln could finish his sentence, Jasper’s fist connected with his face again.
“Don’t know how to talk properly, do you? Let me teach you some manners on behalf of your father!”
“You’ve been spoiled far too much by the Winston family! It’s time for your reign as CEO to come to an end!”
Seeing Lincoln sprawled on the ground, nearly beaten senseless, I finally stepped in to stop Jasper.
I noticed his knuckles turning red and couldn’t help but feel a pang of concern.
“Does it hurt?” I said softly.
Lincoln Winston, clutching his swollen face, looked up and saw me holding Jasper’s hand, concern evident in my eyes as I checked on him.
Completely losing his composure, Lincoln let out a bizarre mix of laughter and sobs, looking utterly ridiculous.
When he noticed the growing crowd of onlookers, he finally scrambled awkwardly to his feet.
Just then, the Winston family bodyguards arrived, accompanied by Rosemary, still dressed in her wedding gown.
As soon as Rosemary spotted me, she didn’t hesitate to point her finger and start yelling.
“Laura! What kind of spell have you cast on Lincoln?!”
“Even on the day we’re supposed to register our marriage, you won’t leave us alone! He’s even trying to back out because of you!”
“Why?! Why do you have everything?! You should just go to hell! Go to hell!”
