“Laura, that child was a mistake. I was drunk–it meant nothing!”
“I only suggested adopting the baby because I didn’t want you to suffer through JVF.”
“I never had feelings for Rosemary. Please, forgive me one more time!”
Lincoln’s shamelessness truly exceeded all my expectations.
Before I could respond, Rosemary, unable to bear hearing his words, rushed forward to confront him.
But Lincoln, with a cold glare, slapped her to the ground.
“Get lost! You were just a plaything to me. What right do you have to question me?”
Turning his fierce gaze back to Rosemary, he then looked at me with pleading eyes.
“Laura, I’ll get rid of her right now! Let’s go back and get married, please!”
I was so infuriated by Lincoln’s audacity that I nearly laughed.
“Lincoln, I will never marry you. The person I’m marrying is Jasper Winston!”
At that moment, Jasper approached, wrapping a comforting arm around my waist.
“Laura, it’s almost time. Let’s begin the engagement ceremony,” he said gently.
“No! You can’t marry him! I won’t allow you to marry him!” Lincoln shouted, his voice filled with desperation.
“Uncle has been in love with someone else for over a decade! He’ll never truly love you!”
“You’ll never be happy with him. I’m the only one who truly loves you!”
Hearing this, a dangerous glint flashed in Jasper’s eyes as he fixed a deadly glare on Lincoln.
If it weren’t for the faint thread of familial ties between them, Lincoln’s actions would have warranted a much
harsher punishment.
Lincoln, still shouting and trying to charge at us, was quickly subdued by the bodyguards on Mr. Winston’s orders.
No matter how much he struggled, it was futile.
In the end, both Lincoln and Rosemary were thrown out of the engagement banquet.
Under the witness of all the guests, Jasper and I completed our engagement ceremony.
After the banquet, Jasper took me to see the fireworks display he had arranged for me.

His friends approached us with champagne, offering their heartfelt congratulations.
“Sorry for causing so much trouble during what should’ve been a perfect engagement banquet…” I said, feeling guilty.
Jasper didn’t blame me at all. Instead, he pulled me gently into his arms.
“Laura, this wasn’t your fault. There’s no need to apologize.”
His understanding and kindness only made me feel more unsettled.
After a moment of thought, I decided to tell him the truth.
“Actually, Mrs. Winston was right. I lost the ability to have children after the car accident,” I said hesitantly.
“So I thought it over and decided to tell you. If you regret-”
Before I could finish, Jasper interrupted me, gripping my hand tightly as he spoke.
“Laura, I don’t regret anything. On the contrary, I feel so lucky to be marrying you.”
“Not having children doesn’t matter. What I love is you, and having you is more than enough!”
As he spoke, he pulled out a slightly faded, old photograph from his pocket.
Confused, I took it and looked closely, only to widen my eyes in shock.
“This photo… the person in it–is that me?”
Jasper looked at me with a gentle, affectionate gaze and nodded.
“I need to be honest with you about something,” he began, “about the rumors of me having a ‘first love‘ that I’ve cherished for years.”
Realization dawned on me, and I pointed at myself uncertainly.
“Are you saying… I’m the one you’ve been in love with all these years?”
Through Jasper’s words, I learned about the deep and patient love he had harbored for me over so many years.
Before he went abroad, he had spent a long time living in the Winston family’s old estate.
Because of his reserved personality and poor health, none of the other children wanted to play with him.
At the time, I was the only one who, while following Lincoln around, would pay attention to him.
I not only brought him food every day but also told him jokes to cheer him up.
Jasper held my hand tightly, his rare vulnerability shining through as he spoke earnestly.

“By the time I returned to the country and heard about you again, you were already with Lincoln.”
“So every time I came back, I could only watch you from afar, never daring to disturb you.”

As Jasper spoke, memories I had long buried resurfaced, becoming vivid again
I never imagined that he could be such a deeply devoted person in private.
And the thought of how much he had endured in silence made my heart ache for him.
I wrapped my arms around Jasper and whispered, “Thank you for waiting, my love.”
