Echo is getting stronger each day and even though I don’t like eating all the extra food, I know that I need it
to escape.
Mom won’t touch it because of her allergies and that is the main reason I ordered these items, but it also pointed out something else to me. Lucas didn’t tell Jack much about his family, because then I wouldn’t have gotten the items at all.
Jack isn’t stupid, if he had known that Mom is allergic to certain types of food, he would have figured out that I was eating all of it.
Three times a day I focus on my surroundings and so far it all is still the same. Lucas‘ watchdogs are keeping an eye on Mom and other watchdogs are keeping an eye on them.
Every time Mom lies down for a nap, I explore the house for my escape plan and I think that I am going to take my chances with the other group of watchdogs. They seem to be my one shot at freedom and now I need to plan for the best time to get out of here.
Lucas and Mom have been at it over and over again, because there is still no word from Alpha Alexander and even his Pack–members don’t seem to know where he is.
All Lucas knows at the moment is that he is still alive, because his Pack–members didn’t feel the bond to their Alpha break.
“Mateja, where did you go?” Lucas asks and I just stare at him for a moment. This is the first time he has asked me a question in a very long time and I am a bit stunned at the moment.
“A peaceful little spot near Wolfstrand.” I answer him. I am not going to tell him where I really was in my thoughts, he probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.
Instead of asking any other questions, he starts arguing with Mom again and with my eyes closed I just listen to their conversation.
Too bad that Lucas doesn’t realize that I am eavesdropping, I have done it for many years and I know a lot of his plans. Much more than he would want me to know, but not enough for me to bring him down.
I hear them discussing a mansion a few hours from here and the plan to move again real soon, sounds like I am running out of time.
Mom asks if the staff for the new mansion are hired and all I hear is a soft chuckle from Lucas, I doubt he hired anyone for the job.
“Lucas, you better make sure that everything is in place. The Full Moon is almost here and she will turn eighteen a few days before that, you need to act fast.” Mom whispers, hoping that I won’t hear a word she
says.
I know who they are talking about, but I also know that Lucas hasn’t found her yet either and I wonder if I am not that far off with my educated guess.
If anyone would ask me, I would say that Alpha Alexander is in the Palace dungeons and that their target is under the protection of the King. It is the last place anyone would look for Alpha Alexander or their target,

“Mateja.” I hear Mom say and for a moment I don’t respond. I slowly open my eyes before sitting up straight.
“Sorry, I was just thinking. What is it, Mom?” I ask and I see that Lucas is on the phone again. It is normal for him to conduct business while he visits Mom, he never asks about me and I like it that way,
“What is for dinner?” Mom asks and I get up to see what we have left in the fridge.
“Count me out, I have a meeting to get to and I will get something on my way home.” Lucas says, before he walks out of the living room.
Mom walks to the front door with Lucas and I hear her ask how much longer he is going to keep me around. I rapidly shake my head, I didn’t hear that correctly and I concentrate on their conversation again.
“Don’t worry, Mom. As soon as she has done what I need her to do, she will be gone from our lives and then we can have the life that we deserve. No more than two weeks I think, maybe even a little sooner.” I hear Lucas reply.
I want to strangle my Mother the moment she walks back into the room, but Echo manages to calm me down. Don’t ask me how, but she did it quickly and it was what I needed.
Dinner is spent in silence and for the first time in my life I start to doubt my Mother.
I do the dishes by myself as every other time, going over my memories in reverse to find out where things changed between me and my Mother. Most memories are just about the same as today, only speaking to me if she needs to know something.
Then the memory of Lucas‘ Father pops into mind and I know that I have found the reason for my Mother’s changes. It was his walking out of our lives that changed her and despite her telling me over and over again that she wasn’t angry with me, but it seems that she hates me for it.
“Do you think she told Lucas about his Father and the true reason why he left?” Echo asks.
“It would explain why he wants to get rid of me, but he has raised another question. What could he possibly want me to do for him?” I respond and I will start to make my final plans tonight.
If Lucas is giving me two weeks tops, I need to get out of here within the next few days.
“We leave tonight, Mateja.” Echo says in my head, her voice filled with determination.
I wish my Mother a good night, while in my head I tell her goodbye. She doesn’t respond because she is looking at her favorite show and I take the last of the food Jack sent to the mansion with me to my room.
It will probably take her until lunch to realize that I am gone, she never gets out of bed early and I’m not always downstairs when she wakes up.
Once I am sure that my Mother is sleeping, I place some of my clothes in my backpack and walk down the stairs to get to the back room. It is the one spot where we can get out without our watchdogs seeing us and the fastest way for Echo to get us to safety.
“Don’t forget that damn backpack, I want something to wear once we are safe.” I say to Echo while I strip down and place my clothes into the backpack.
I climb out the window and shift into Echo, allowing her to get us out of here.

Something just left Shadewoods Mansion out of one of the back windows. Not sure what it is, but you better get here now.
A message from the team that watches the mansion and I wake up the rest of my team to accompany me to
the mansion.
Whatever it was, it jumped into the trees.
Now I am intrigued, Matrius is finally showing some interest in the outside world again. Usually he just lies in the back of my head and shows up whenever I need him, but he barely speaks to me anymore.
“I talk when I need to.” Matrius mumbles.
We get to my other team about five minutes later and we get a quick update on the whereabouts of the mysterious Shifter who left the mansion.
I let Matrius listen for any sound and I can feel his frustration grow when he can’t hear a sound, which supports my suspicion of a Shifter.
“What kind of Shifter can move through trees without making a sound?” Matrius asks me.
“A well trained Feline Shifter.” I answer him, not that I have ever met a Feline Shifter.
We are aware of other Shifters, but most of them don’t interact with Wolves and Lycans and my Mother always believed that it is the reason why some of us have a hard time finding our fated Mate.
The rustling of leaves draws my attention to a tree on my left and my eyes widen when I am staring into the eyes of a Mountain Lion, who softly jumps from the branch in front of me. The Mountain Lion slowly moves behind some bushes and a minute later my jaw drops.
“Giselle?” I hear Wade ask and the female shakes her head.
“My name is Mateja and I don’t know anyone by that name.” She answers Wade and I realize that this is Lucas‘ Half–sister.
“Why don’t we get out of here? We can deal with the questions later.” I suggest and order my other team to resume their observation of the mansion.
Within ten minutes we are back at the house and I show Mateja the room she can use, still a little baffled.
“Why did you call me Giselle?” Mateja asks Wade the moment she walks into the living room and Pedro turns his laptop around to show her a picture of Giselle.
She steps closer to the screen and we can hear her mutter under her breath, she doesn’t sound happy at all. Maybe she can help us with the two mysteries we have and maybe she can’t.

“That is how he is getting you off his back, by making you think that she is dead.” Mateja growls softly and I am obviously not the only one that doesn’t understand her.

couldn’t understand his remark about me doing what I needed to do for tam
I just got my answer with that picture, if he kidnaps Giselle and leaves my body out there to be found. She less the sentence trail off, we are smart enough to finish it ourwyer,
Every person in the room has trouble controlling their Wolf, our Shifter sides doft like infondsee, Wet, mon Shifters don’t and that means a struggle for control over the Human body when a Shifter hears aboux injustice.
Clover is the first one that is able to calm down her Wolf and I see a smirk on her face as the torns towards the others.
“Lucas would have failed, Giselle is marked and without actually killing her the bond stays intact Clover says and it helps to calm down the other Wolves in the room.
“No offense, but she isn’t eighteen yet and can’t find her fated Mate Matey rewonds. None of us responds to her statement and she seems to understand that we have no reason to trust her
“Okay, I understand you don’t want to explain this to me. I just want you to know that I will tell you everything I know about Lucas‘ plans and I know just about everything, The place where he plans on holding Giselle, how he plans on taking her if he can find her.
Lucas is still hoping that Alpha Alexander can get her back to Onyx Star Pack in time, but I have a funny feeling that he will be waiting for an eternity for that to happen” Mateja says.
“I can even help you with that.” She says while pointing at the whiteboard.
We stare at the whiteboard with ten names on it and no clue as to their whereabouts. The location that Clover found in Rogueyard, which was rented by Marcel, had been abandoned and we hadn’t found any other property that was rented in Marcel’s name.
“They are at the same location that he wants to hold Giselle at, if I remember correctly then each of them was trained for a specific task within that location.” Mateja says. “I don’t know the tasks they were trained for, but it didn’t sound good.”
Now the time–table for the disappearances makes sense, it takes longer to break a male than a female. It is easier to break someone within a year of being rejected or if they are older or without their Shifter half.
Grabbing Dorian might have served two purposes; on one hand he would be easy to break and on the other his surveillance wouldn’t take up a lot of time. They had been in a hurry to find the last of their Servants, it was getting closer to Giselle’s birthday and the next Full Moon.
“Lucas has been preparing for this after he lost his chance with June and he has gone over every possible scenario he could think of, except for his next victim to be marked.” Mateja says.
It makes sense that he would be more careful this time, but it didn’t do him any good. He couldn’t have foreseen that Adora would have forced a shift to save her Human or that they would be in the same room as their fated Mate on a Full Moon.
No matter how many scenarios Lucas went through, he overlooked the one that could ruin everything.
