Chapter Three

Ava’s POV

The room spun, my ears rang, and I staggered back a step, barely processing what I’d just heard. Mistress? Me? A mistress. The absurdity of it was almost laughable. Well, I did. A sharp, bitter laugh escaped me, though my vision blurred with unshed tears while I tried to will them back. It wasn’t just absurd, it felt orchestrated as if they had all sat together, my husband included, and planned this humiliation down to the

last detail

This is insane,” I said, shaking my head in disbelief. It’s obvious you all planned this, but youI turned my burning gaze on Regina, my motherinlaw. You, as a woman, did you even hear yourself? Did you ever stop to imagine what you’re asking? Would you give up your life, your marriage, your dignity for thisthis farce?”

Watch your tone, Ava. I won’t tolerate you speaking to me like”

Would you?I cut her off, my voice rising, my body shaking with rage. I didn’t care if I was shouting. My hands curled into fists at my sides, my nails biting into my palms, my eyes red with anger

Regina’s lips twisted in disdain. Don’t bring me into your mess. If you had done your duty as a wife, this wouldn’t have happened. The least you can do now is step aside gracefully. She shouted back at me

A laugh, hollow and aching, ripped from my throat. Whose fault is that?I shot back, stepping closer. Mine? Because I’m damn sure it isn’t.” I yelled back too

We were in each other’s faces now, our chests heaving, inches away from a physical altercation. I was ready to claw, to tear, to make her feel even a fraction of my pain

Ava, calm down.I heard Kyle’s voice before I felt his large hands wrapped around my arms, pulling me back. For a split second, the warmth of his touch burned through the ice inside me. But I recoiled, shoving him away as if his touch were poison

Get your filthy hands off me,” I snapped

Ava,he pleaded

What? Do you have anything else to say other than your pathetic plan to make me your mistress? Do you?Guilt flickered across his face, and my stomach twisted. I knew it. He was in on it

“It wasn’t supposed to happen this way,he said quietly

I let out a sharp, humorless laugh. Oh, that’s comforting,” I mocked. Im sure that will make everything

better.”

Ava”

No.I held up a trembling hand, silencing him. Don’t. Don’t you dare justify this. YouMy voice wavered, but I pushed through. You humiliated me. And now you want me to divorce you and become your mistress? Have you no conscience?”

Regina scoffed. Honestly, Ava, stop making a fuss. You’re acting like a child.”

Mother,” Kyle warned, but it was too late

Chapter Three

My head snapped toward her. A fuss?I seethed. Your son cheated on me, and I’m supposed to applaud

him?”

You’re supposed to understand,” she said, her tone clipped, her stare cold

Mom,Kyle called again, but this time louder and harsher which stunned Regina into silence

He exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. Please.he started, this time in a lower voice. “Just let me speak to my wife.”

Regina huffed but sat down on my bed, patting the space beside her for the pregnant woman I don’t give a s**t what her name was to sit. My blood boiled at the sight. They were settling in as if they belonged here, as if this was now their home. My home

Anger flooded my inside and I itched to pull them out of my house but Kyle’s voice stopped me before I could

take a step

I’m sorry, Ava,He said, his voice low. I turned to face him but his gaze was locked on the floor. “I know this is sudden, but I promise you that it was a mistake. But you need to understand and forgive me.”

A mistake. Sure, that’s what they all say. But I didn’t respond I just stood there, trying to rein in my anger while listening to his pathetic excuse. They always have one anyway

But I can’t discard my child,he added, his voice laced with something painfully close to guilt

Oh, but I can be discarded?”

No, Ava.He groaned, his head rolling to the side. Please try to understand. This child is my blood. I can’t let them suffer for my mistake. But I also can’t bear to lose you. That’s why I suggested the divorce,” He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he did. so the child wouldn’t be illegitimate, but you could still be in my life. You are the only woman I love, Ava.”

Unbelievable

I gawked at him, utterly stunned by the audacity, I had once thought Kyle was levelheaded, a critical thinker. But no he just proved he was nothing but an imbecile. He wanted to demote me to the role of a mistress, and he had the gall to call it love

You want me to accept this?My voice trembled with fury. Do you even hear yourself, Kyle? You actually think I would agree to this?By now, I was trembling, my body shaking with rage and unshed tears. My fists clenched so tightly that my nails bit into my skin, I couldn’t believe he dared to say this to my face as if I were supposed to nod along and understand. As if I had no pride

Well, let me make something clear, Kyle. I can’t. And I won’t. Take your w***e and get out of my house. Whatever you do with her and your child is none of my damn business, as long as you keep them far away from me. Out of my sight.”

Kyle’s face twisted in pain, but I didn’t care. Not anymore

Ava”

I turned away from him, my attention snapping to pregnant lady and Regina. My blood ran cold as I watched them head toward my bathroom

Where the hell do you think you’re going?I snapped

Chapter Three

The lady froze like a startled deer. My feet moved before I even thought about it. And in a rush of anger, I grabbed her arm, my grip tightening

She squeaked in fear, struggling, while Regina tried to pry me off her. Let her go!she screeched, but I shook her off with a violent jerk

The room erupted in chaos. Shouts filled the air. Kyle’s voice mixed with Regina’s and the lady’s cries. I ignored them all. My goal was clear: get them out of my house. Now

But then it happened so fast

The lady was in my tight grip one minute, and the next she yanked away from me with too much force. Her foot slipped. In a blink, she was falling, hitting the floor hard. A sharp, exaggerated cry tore from her lips

Lilian!”

–

The voice I wasn’t sure whose, rang through the room. I froze, my anger dissipating in an instant, replaced by something far worse

Fear and Guilt

Regina was at her side in seconds, hands cradling Lilian’s stomach protectively. But it wasn’t Regina’s reaction that shattered me it was Kyle’s

He dropped to his knees beside Lilian, his face pale with panic. His hands hovered over her as his gaze

okay?darted between her face and her belly, asking over and over, Are you

At that moment, guilt and heartbreak consumed me. I hadn’t meant to hurt her, but watching my husband dropped to his knees before her, his face twisted with fear as his eyes darted between her face and stomach, was too much to bear

With a heavy heart and blurred vision, I stormed out of the room, nearly colliding with Harold, who had finally decided to make an appearance. About time. He had joined the party, but news flash; it was already over. Without a word or a backward glance at the man I had loved for a long time and his shameless family, I walked out of the house

I didn’t look back
