Chapter 60~ The Rogues
Chapter 60~ The Rogues
ELIJAH’S POV
Rogues were a messy lot. They fought with zero finesse and were always ready to draw blood. Lucky for them, I had blood of my own to draw as well.
I waited while the first rogue ran in my direction and struck it with my claw. I was tnumbered, but numbers were never my problem.
Plus, I was angry enough.
They came forward, baring teeth and slashing claws, and I realised that to win, I was going to have to fight dirty as well. The fight dragged on for what felt like forever, but I fought them with all that I had inside of me. But the more they fell, the more kept coming. When I survived this, I was going to have to come back here and survey the area. Somehow, this seemed to be their base of some kind.
“Mate.” My wolf cried, and I felt that pain in my chest from earlier. It was stronger this time, and I knew something had to be terribly wrong.
I looked around, wolves down, wolves advancing, and then I realized, it was all a distraction.
“Damn it,” I swore. They took Kylie because they had expected me to come for her. And now I was here, and they were wel prepared.
I couldn’t fight all of them. They had already worn me out as it was, and I needed to go to Kylie. And fast, because of my wolf’s whines and the feeling in my chest were any indication, something had gone completely wrong.
When two more wolves advanced on me, I fought them off, but my heart was not in it, and when saw an opening, I took it and ran back to where Kylie had been.
But she was gone.
The ropes that held her were gone too, and I could tell that they had been cut to free her. I looked around me in frustration and growled.
I couldn’t see a sigh of struggle, not broken like she had tried to fight.
So where the hell was she?
Had they taken her while I fought with the rogues?
“Smell her. Find her.” My wolf prompted.
“Okay. Okay.” I said and tried to focus. I didn’t really have much of anything to focus on.
“Remember her scent. Remember her.” Fio tutored and I did my best to draw the memory of her scent from earlier. She all but filled my senses, and for a moment, it felt like I could hear her calling out to me.
“Elijah. Elijah.” She called, her voice so weak and it filled me with purpose. Her scent was the guide, her voice was my inspiration.
“Let’s go,” I told Fio, and we sprinted. I truly hoped I could find her before more rogues gained ground on me. I needed whatever energy for the rogues that might have taken her.
Because they were right to believe I would come rushing down here for Kylie. What they didn’t know, was that for Kylie, I would draw blood.
I stood in front of a bronze door, knowing that Kylie lingered within because that was where her scent was strongest. And then I shifted back into my human form.
I pushed the door forward and was surprised to find that it wasn’t locked.
“Well, well. Alpha Elijah. I wondered how long you would survive the little friends I sent your way. I suppose the things they say about your strength is true then.” The man who spoke had matted hair and a scar running down his forehead. He was the leader of these rogues, but he was not the man in charge, and for that, his death would be swift. I would save the agony for the one who started this entire thing.
“Where is she?” I asked without preamble, my patience completely gone, and he pointed to his right.
“Kylie.” She was laid across a bed with pink cov

“As you can see, your princess is sleeping. Would you like to wake her up with a kiss?”
“I’m going to kill you, and feed your detached body to ravens.”
That wiped the irritating smile off his face.

Chapter 60 – The Rogues
“That’s a lot of talk for one who might not survive the next couple of minutes. The thing is, I was a bit lost in thought before you got here. A bit of a dilemma really. See, I wasn’t sure who was going to have to go first. You? Or your baby girl?”
I didn’t say anything. He was goading me, pushing me to attack him and I would, but first I needed to know what he wanted to do with Kylie.
“Why have you been sending your men out to Kylie all this while?”
“Did you not know? Her blood is precious.” He said and his smile returned, “On second thought, I think you’re going to go first. Maybe we can wake her so she can watch. She’s a bit feisty that one, I’ve bee looking for a way to break her spirit.”
He turned to her and I balled up my hands in fists.
“If you take, one more step in that direction, I will make your death painful. I promise you.”
“You’re threatening me still?” He said with a stiff smile when he turned to face me, “Fine then, I won’t wake her. But I’ll be sure to tell her the tale of how you died trying to be a hero.”
He came at me in one swift movement, grabbed me by my neck, and lifted me off the ground by my neck.
“Any last words? Before I crush your neck?”
“Rot in hell,” I spat, and punched him really hard in the face. The force was enough for him to let go of me and fall backward. “Didn’t see that coming, now did you?” I asked and dusted off my dress shirt with finesse.
He slowly got up from the ground, looking a bit roughened.
“A good match.” He said, “It works for me.”
“Hell with that,” I said and went after him, grabbed him by the collar, and punched him hard. Again and again. Till I drew blood.
“How dare you, put your hands on Kylie?” I said and felt all of my senses leaving my body.
“And how dare you, put your hands on me?” He punched me so hard I staggered, but I didn’t fall. Kylie’s fate rested on me being safe, well, and alive. So I didn’t stagger and I didn’t fall.
I went at him again, my body over his, and punched every corner of him that my hand could reach. Every time I hit, I considered the harm he might have done to Kylie, the harm he wished to, and that pushed me to hurt him more.
I didn’t leave room for him to attack me, and somewhere at the back of my mind, I was surprised that more of his crony rogues had not joined us.
He grabbed me by the hand and I looked at me through blood shot eyes.
“This isn’t the end. He is coming for her. He is coming for…” he never got to complete his statement, for his hands slipped off my collar and his eyes lolled backward.
He was gone, but I threw another punch for good measure before I rose and staggered my way toward Kylie.
“Hey,” I whispered and slowly lifted her off the bed. She stirred a bit, but she didn’t wake.
She had a mini gash on her forehead that made me stew with anger but I let it go. My number one priority was to get her out of there.
And I was going to hurt, maim, and kill anyone who stood between me and that exit.
