Chapter 46 Chains and Heroism
Chapter 46 – Chains and Heroism
KYLIE’S POV
After breakfast with Elijah, i had to reason with him to let me pick up supplies when he was leaving
“I’ll bring them for you” He argued, but i smiled and shook my head
“I have to keep going. Elijah. That means doing the normal things of life. I need your to understand”
Finally, he relented, even though he found it hard to let me walk back on my own.
17! drop you at your apartment building”
And so he did, and I was grateful Only for me to find an unexpected quest when I reached the front door of my apartment
It was my friend, Jesse, looking at all puffy cheeks and red eyes.
“Kylie!” She screamed and ran to hug me when she saw me, “Oh Kylie, where have you been? I called all morning. I’ve been waiting here. I nearly well lost it.” She wrapped her arms around me so fight and I felt a twinge of guilt. In the middle of everything that had happened last night, I never called to say I was safe. I just left of, course she must have been worried
“I was buzzed yesterday but was told that you left with a friend. I didn’t even give it a second thought. It was this morning i realized that it all did not make any sense. Gosh, Kylie, I’m such a terrible friend. You could have been hurt, and I was just drunk.”
“It’s okay, Jess. I’m fine. If anyone is a terrible friend, it’s me. I should not have left like that. We went there together” “Which is why I should have had your back, instead of just getting drunk like that. But, tell me, why did you leave” “1-“I began, and found that I didn’t even know where to start from, “come on in, I’ll explain over brunch.”
“Okay.”
I searched for my keys and opened the door and we went in.
“So, where do I begin?” I said and sighed.
“Anywhere.”
“Well, while you guys were dancing, I was at the bar. And believe me, I liked it there. But then this random drunk guy appeared out of nowhere making advances. Of course, I turned him down, but he didn’t quite want to catch on.”
“Oh my gosh, Kylie.”
“I was a bit buzzed too, and he tried to take advantage, but Justin showed up ”
“Justin?” She asked, a bit surprised and I nodded.
“Yeah. He did his best to defend me though, although the drunk guy was very annoying.” I left out the part about Justin’s real life, as well as the part where Elijah showed up and broke the guy’s nose. I didn’t think I wanted to explain why Elijah and I were suddenly in each other’s space once again, “in the end though, he left and stopped bothering us, but after the whole long situation, all I craved was a shower and my bed. The whole thing had gotten a lot of attention.”
“I can only imagine. I’m so sorry, Ky.” I shrugged and smiled a thin smile.
“Don’t worry so much about it now. I’m okay.”
“I know you are.” She rose and walked toward me to wrap her arms around me, “but I wish I was there for you.”
“You’re here now.” I started and placed my hands on hers. “That’s really all that matters,” I said sincerely. I was not used to people worrying so much about me. But here I was, doing it so effortlessly and sincerely, and I couldn’t help but feel all warm and emotional.
“Oh, Kylie!” She shrieked and held me tighter.
She stayed and I was glad for it. However, an hour later, a knock on the door, brought me out of a nap.
“I’ve got it.” She said and waved me off from trying to get up.
But I had to get up because the person at the door wasn’t just anyone. It was a police officer.
“Good day ma’am, I’m looking for Ms. Kylie Wade.” The middle–aged man said, flashing his Cop id card as he did
“That would be me?” I said, as I slowly walked t ward the door
fused, what was going on?
Use to hysterics.
“I believe there should be some kind of mistak Successfully unlocked!
“Then we can settle that at the station. For now, you’re under arrest for attacking a minor.”
“What?!” Jess and I said in unison as the guy entered the house and brought his chains.
“You have a right to remain silent..” his other words were lost on me, I was too busy wondering what the hell was going on!

“It’s okay Jess. Call Elijah. I’ll call him when I get the chance But cat him, tell him what has happened its okay” She was close to tears again but she was nodding, bringing out her phone.
At the station, I remained quiet. I called Elijah when i got the chance, and kept the explanations brief
“They said I attacked a minor,” I said flatly when what I longed to do was throw a tantrum
I’m on my way” He said in his take charge voice and I nodded, then remembered he couldn’t see ma
“Okay Okay”
Minutes felt like hours, but Elijah came and headed straight for the chief
They had a long conversation, and all through the while I watched Enjah. He didn’t crack, he didn’t look scared and for that reason, I was not scared.
And then, at long last, after what felt like forever, they let me go.
“You’re free to go, ms. Wade. Our apologies for this whole mix–up. “I heard the apology, but it didn’t register, I was just foo overwhelmed.
But when I spotted Elijah, I ran into his arms. I didn’t think, I just did it.
“I leave you for an hour and you get into trouble.”
“Elijah,” I said and burrowed my head into his chest when his heart was beating and I felt so safe.
When I let him go, he was looking at me warmly,
“Come on. Let’s take this outside.” I nodded and followed him out of the station and inhaled fresh gulps of fresh air. “I’ve never been more thankful for my freedom.”
He turned and smiled at me.
“That’s good.”
“You had a long conversation with the chief. What did he say?”
“It was a mistake. I mean, there was an attached minor, but the description given fit you, so they came for you. All a big misunderstanding. Sorry about that.”
I nodded slowly.
“Is the child okay?”
“ICU. But the worst is over.”
“You asked?”
“I asked.”
“Oh Elijah,” I said and sat on the sidewalk. Too overwhelmed to keep standing, I buried my head in my hands and wept.
I felt him sit close to me, felt his hand come around my shoulder and all but melted into his embrace.
“You’re okay, my love.” He said soothingly, “You’re perfectly fine.”
I would be. He was there, so I would be.
“Let me take you home.” He said when I wasn’t crying anymore and I quietly nodded.
As we went, I realised that I was developing a childlike trust in him and although it scared the hell out of me, for that moment, I could only let it be.
