Chapter 44~ Stranger truths
KYLIE’S POV
We all watched as the bleeding man staggered away from Elijah. It was one thing to render threats, but it was clear as day that the man could not make do
On them. It was for his own good that he left when he had the chance. At least the, he could save himself.
“Let me take you away from here,” Elijah said to me when the drunk man was out of sight. I turned to Elijah, his hand stretched out to me, the vengeance and anger in his eyes all gone. Now it was only concern I saw there
“Do you think he’ll be back?” I asked, placing my hand in his. It was as though, but that act, I was placing my trust in him. Maybe I was.
“Let’s hope his wise enough not to.”
I nodded and turned to Justin who watched us with an unreadable expression. I really didn’t know what to say to him. So ! only thank him.
“Thank you, Justin,” I said sincerely. After all, he had rescued me in the bathroom.
“Sure.” He said and simply turned away. i suppose he also did not have what to say to me.
He didn’t know this, but he didn’t have to worry about me talking about the secret of his identity to anyone. It was safe with me. After all, who could I tell anyway?
“Ready?” Elijah asked and I nodded.
Back at my apartment, Elijah got out my first aid kit so he could help me clean my wounds. I thought it quite intimate that he knew where everything was. But I didn’t say a word.
We were still separated and that hung between us.
“Thank you for coming,” I said, through the silence as he gently cleaned my wounds. Such gentleness would have been a surprise to anyone who had witnessed him earlier. But not to me. I was used to Elijah’s contradictory behavior
“You don’t have to thank me, Kylie. I’m just glad I got there when I did.”
I was going to ask what he was doing there, but a different question came out of my mouth.
“Do you think he’ll press charges?” I found myself asking and Elijah shrugged.
“If he is dumb enough to do so, then that means you get to press charges for attempted Rape and being harassed. Alls fair in war.” Elijah said simply. He really was not worried.
“I think you broke his nose,” I stated and a slow smirk crept up Elijah’s face.
“I wanted to break more than his nose if I’m being honest. Perhaps I could have plucked out his eyes for good measure. He‘ Il never stare and lust after another beautiful woman again.”
I smiled weakly at Elijah’s words. Do you know what the weird part was? I think Elijah meant what he said and it didn’t scare
me at all.
Something else occurred to me. It was the fact that Elijah was a bit dressed up. Had he been planning to see someone?
“Elijah, why are you dressed up
Though ?”
He raised a brow before responding, “I was out eating.” He said simply and it was my turn to raise a brow.
“So you were on a date then,” I concluded and he chuckled lightly.
“What is it? What’s funny?” I asked, a bit irritated by his amusement.
“Nothing really. Just the fact that you think I was with a woman.”
“Well, weren’t you?”
“Why would I be?”
“I don’t know.” I said and shrugged, “You’re single, fit. Surely you must have women who you bring around to these restaurants.”
Successfully unlocked!
He looked at me softly, and the way he gazed in dry eyes
Soft.
“No, Kylie. You’re the only woman I take to restaurants. The only woman I’ve been on a date with lately. There’s no one else.” He said simply and went back to my wounds.

Chapter 44–Stranger truths
It was instantaneous. The way his words dispelled all of my nagging thoughts and worries
“There.” He said when I was all cleaned up. “You’ve had a long night. How about you go wash up white 1 cook up something? I’m sure the night’s event given you quite the appetite.”
Just then my stomach rumbled and Elijah chuckled.
“See.”
I pressed a hand to my stomach and nodded.
“Okay. Dinner would be nice.” I said and rose. I started to pack up the first aid kit, and nearly dropped it and in an attempt to keep it from falling, I knocked over a vase and had a nanosecond to catch it before it fell
“Nice save,” Elijah said with some wonder in his eyes at the way I caught the vase
“Yeah,” I said, still a bit out of breath from the sudden rush. It all happened so fast, but at least the case was safe. I dropped it on the table where it belonged and tried to pack up the contents of the first aid kit, but Elijah waved me off.
“I’ve got it. You go take your time bathing.” He said and picked up the kit to place it where it was meant to be. I simply watched him.
He was being the hero, and he was doing a fine job at it.
ELIJAH’s POV
While Kylie washed, I decided to make some mac and cheese. She liked it a lot, with extra cheese.
But my mind wandered to the way she had caught that vase. It was so fast, so instinctive. So strange.
I wasn’t sure mere humans had such reflexes. And so then, what did that make Kylie?
Something other than merely human?
I didn’t know, I wasn’t sure, but now I was curious.
She came back out moments later fresh and clean, her signature scent of vanilla and cream filling the air.
“You cleaned up nice. And just in time too.” I said and handed her a plate. When she took it I caught sight of a bracelet she wore. I knew Kylie, knew most of all her Knick knacks, but I’d never seen that one before.
It was a leather bracelet with various charms, but a certain charm caught my attention.
“Nice bracelet,” I commented in an offhand manner.
“What? Oh. This old thing. I’ve had it for like ever. Just decided to put it in tonight since I’m a bit emotional.” She said, fingering the charm that bothered me the most.
Something was off. Or not right with Kylie.
Not completely wrong with her. It’s just that, I was beginning to think that there was more to her than met the eye.
Later that night, while she slept, I took a picture of the bracelet and sent it to my beta.
“I need you to figure out what that charm stands for. Quickly!” I texted him and an hour later he called me, his tone quite tense.
“You were right to check, Alpha.
”
“Why? What’s wrong?” I asked, feeling a bit tense myself.
“That bracelet, that charm, it belongs to an ancient pack. It’s not made by humans, Alpha.”
The grip I had on my phone tightened as I took in his words.
Suddenly, it all made sense. It was all coming together. And it was crazy. Kylie was more than she thought she was, and I don’t even think Kylie knew that at all.
