Chapter 35 Seeing other People
Chapter 35–Seeing other People
KYLIE’S POV
Although Elijah and I were not on good terms, and even though I had promised myself to stay away from him, I just couldn’t bring myself to avoid his game night. So I decided to come, with the plan to leave as soon as it was over. I would have even remained anonymous if I could help it.
But he noticed me at the very start of the game, although I didn’t know my best to act uninterested.
It was hard though, seeing as he played so well. He seemed to push himself so hard. So much so that I worried he would break down. But he didn’t. Instead, he won and brought home the trophy
At the end of the game, I packed up my stuff and prepared to leave before we bumped into each other, but I guess I was not fast enough.
I didn’t bump into him. Nothing like that. But I did get to see him… and Lisa
I was forced to watch as she ran to him and wrapped her arms around him so tight in congratulations. It was only a few seconds, but it felt like hours before he pushed her off him, and I was already turning away.
But I heard them, the side comments made by other people who had seen them.
“They look quite good together, don’t they?” I heard one girl say.
“They do. I wonder if they’ve finally made it official.”
It stung if I was being honest. But I couldn’t make a scene or act like I cared. If this was what Elijah wanted, then who was ! to fight him on it?
Just then, a thought hit me. What if Elijah had pushed himself so hard at the game today because Lisa was there?
Gosh, I couldn’t believe it! The thought weighed so heavy on me that I desperately wanted to cry.
So I turned away from them and started to leave, but was blocked by Matthew.
“Hey, Werewolf girl, fancy seeing you here at the game,” Matthew said, sounding and looking all happy to see me and I was thankful for the distraction.
“Hey, Matthew. What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to sound like my normal self.
“Oh, not much. But it’s game night and everyone is here… even you.”
I huffed out a heavy breath and smiled, “Even me.”
“Here.” He said and started to reach for his satchels. He brought out some papers and handed them to me.
“I messed around and did some paperwork on werewolves. I hope you find them interesting.”
“Oh… wow. Thanks?” I said and let out a laugh and he smiled.
“Sure. Elijah did pretty great tonight. He is fast and efficient.” Matthew said offhandedly and I wondered what he would do if he knew that hearing Elijah’s name like that hurt.
“Yeah. He’s a pretty good player.” Just then, another thought hit me. What if the players had some kind of aid? What if they took drugs at every game to make them so agile and efficient? My suspicion took root and I considered it worth investigation.
“Kylie?”
“Mm?” I said and looked up at Matthew.
“Did you hear me?” He asked and I stood there awkwardly.
“No. I’m sorry. I was… lost in thought.”
“Well, it’s okay. I just asked if you perhaps were interested in dinner. I mean, as a way to celebrate tonight’s win.”
“Ahh. Dinner.” I said and looked over at Elijah. Lisa still hovered around him while he spoke to other people and I took that as a sign.
“Yes.” I said after a moment of hesitation, “Yes, I’d like to have dinner with you.” I told Matthew and for a moment there he seemed relieved.
“I know a spot I think you’ll like. Come on.”
Successfully unlocked!
“Okay,” I said, giggling a bit. I felt a bit relieved tou. but with my rene came a bit of sorrow, because if Elijah and Lisa’s relationship was any indication, then it meant that I had to let go of Elijah because perhaps after everything was said and done, he was not the one.
It just hurt a bit because I had begun to develop real feelings for him.

But I was relieved because all of this meant I could give Matthew a chance. And who knew? Perhaps Matthew was going to end up being a kind of epic love story for me.
The next day, I found that I was still kind of stuck on the players in my school. In recent times, ice hockey has become important
But what were the odds that the level of importance attributed to ice hockey meant that every team needed to have a werewolf? At least one, to ensure that every game was one. At least one, to give them an edge.
It was a very broad possibility, but lately, I had been taught to never say never
But I needed more knowledge, and more knowledge meant going to school and doing a bit of research.
Tiffany, my ever–vibrant friend found me while I was sorting out my information, seeming all too excited
“Hi, Tiffany” I said, sparing her a glance and then going back to newspaper articles I was reading that had information on past school Ice hockey games.
“Hi to you too. So, a little buddy told me that you went on a date last night with a handsome senior”
“It was just dinner.”
“Just dinner. Pfft. Have you seen that boy today? Kylie, he has stars in his eyes.”
I looked up for the papers and drew my brows together.
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying, that boy really likes you, and that’s now you’ve opened a door, you might just find that he might take his time to keep it very very open.”
“Hmm,” I replied and went back to my article.
“Do you not care that that boy has a huge crush on you?”
“Right now, all I care about is finishing this article. Please allow me to.” I said and Tiffany let out a quiet groan that only made me smile.
Before the end of the day, I heard a couple of people talking about Elijah being injured as they passed by me.
I couldn’t believe my ears and had to go see for myself. So I ran to the training ground and found that it was true.
He sat on a bench. A bleeding hand pressed to his side, blood trickling down his right temple.
“Elijah!” I called out and ran to him.
“Kylie.” He said, looking up to meet my gaze and I reached out to run a hand down his hair.
“Quite a pickle you got yourself in,” I said softly and he smiled.
“It’s nothing.” He said, shaking his head.
“Of course it is something,” I said and sat beside him. I reached for a wet cloth to clean his temple and gasped when I saw a small lip stain on his neck.
He must have known what I saw because he squirmed.
“It’s not what you think it is, Kylie.”
“It’s none of my business, Elijah,” I said in a voice that was calm. Way too calm. But it was all I could do.”
He wasn’t mine anymore, and regardless of the jealousy I felt, I was not allowed to forget.
