CHAPTER 27- He’s the Alpha
KYLIE’S POV
The night air mixed with low dim light, giving an evening full of peace and tranquility, in the restaurant where Elijah and I ate. I know I said I was going to keep my distance, but I was unable to refuse him when he asked me to dinner after school.
“It’s the weekend, Ky. Come dine with me. You don’t even have to have a conversation with me, you can even pretend I’m not funny and charming,” he said, and I raised a brow, fighting the urge to smile. But there was a crack in my cool demeanor, and Elijah caught it.
“fine. I said. But don’t expect to have the time of your life.” I told him.
But I was having a good time after all, because for all the ways I tried to keep Elijah at arm’s length, I still always found myself feeling calm and safe in his presence.
“you know all the nicest places,” I told him, looking around me. There were couples at different tables, some were having conversations, while some were eating their meals. And all of them looked at ease.
“Would you believe it if I told you this is the first time I’m bringing a woman to a place like this?” he asked me, and I thought he expected me to be impressed by the fact, which is why I chose to act like I didn’t care.
“I see. None of the women in your past wanted to do fancy?”
He smiled and shook his head, “I find it hard to believe there are women who wouldn’t enjoy fancy.” he said and reached for his glass of wine, sipped from it, and continued, “I just never had the right women who I wanted to do fancy with.” he finished, looking straight into my eyes, and something told me he was telling the truth.
I was mesmerized by that truth, by the warm glint in his eyes when he told it, and as I felt myself slipping, I quickly shook my head and reached for my glass.
“flattering,” I said dryly, and he just smiled.
“I like to try my best.”
“mhmm.”
An hour later, we were ready to go, and Elijah rose to help me with my Jacket.
“What do you think you’re doing?” the server asked, appearing out of nowhere. I was still seated, while Elijah paused mid–air, reaching from my Jacket.
He straightened and met the server with a stony look, and I had the unnerving feeling that things were about to get ugly.
“Excuse me?” he questioned, and he had ice in his voice.
“you heard me. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say, you were trying to leave this place without paying for the meal you just had.”
“No one was trying to do that,” I said suddenly, feeling truly insulted by his outright accusation.
The server turned to me and sneered.
“Oh, and the lady speaks. So what? Did you think you could come here, flash a pretty face, and suddenly all your meals would be free?”
I rose in indignation, but Elijah reached out and placed his hand on the small of my back. That was his way of asking me to calm down and let him handle it. Which I did, but I knew that Elijah handling things was to the server’s detriment.
“What is going on here? What is all this commotion ?” asked a man, wearing a suit, with a brook on his jacket that said ‘ manager”
“your server was just accusing us unjustly,” Elijah said in a quietly menacing tone.
“Is this true?” the manager asked, turning to the server who had an ugly sneer going on.
“very far from the truth. They hadn’t paid their bills, but somehow they were just about to leave. I was just questioning them on their behavior, seeing as this isn’t a restaurant known for giving out free meals.”
“That’s a lie!” I shouted. I knew we were already drawing enough attention, but I just couldn’t let this man get away with lying to us, without defending Elijah and me.
“My employee isn’t lying. The both of you have caused enough trouble as it is, and I believe it’s high time I invited security to escort you out of this place. This whole thing is bad for the restaurant’s reputation.”
“you have got to be kidding me. You were not even here and you believe this abominable liar over us.” I said, feeling very
angry.
“Hey, you watch your mouth.” the server said and I met him eye to eye.
“Make me,” I said, and once again, Elijah had to place his hand on my back. I was angry, and I was trembling from it!
CHAPTER 27–He’s the Alpha
“it’s strange that you would say that we were leaving without paying, seeing as you’re still with the card I gave you when we ordered our meal. And if memory serves me, you haven’t returned my card. So what? Do you make it a bit of misplacing people’s cards? Or is all this just a ploy to turn all the attention on us while you steal my card?”
“How dare you?” the server said arrogantly, but Elijah looked away from him dismissively, and turned to the manager.
“I want my card back. As well as an apology to my lady and I. but more than that, I’d like to speak to your owner.”
The manager raised a brow, somewhat astounded by Elijah’s quiet confidence in the face of all the commotion.
“My boss has no business being disturbed by matters such as this one.”
“call him. And I’m not asking.” Elijah said, in an authoritative tone that surprised even me.
“And who the hell do you think you are, to be making such demands?” the manager asked with some irritation and a slow smirk spread across his face.
“Elijah Crawford.”
The manager’s eyes widened with something that looked like fear, and Elijah’s smile stretched.
“I… I don’t think this would be necessary. Sir.”
Sir? I questioned myself. That was a complete change from being called a liar. What was going on here?
I watched the way the manager seemed to cower as he contemplated Elijah, and I looked at Elijah who suddenly seemed to be enjoying himself.
“Elijah?” I questioned and he rubbed my arm reassuringly.
“You men have embarrassed us today, and I don’t like it.”
“Well, we wouldn’t have embarrassed you if you hadn’t thought of leaving this place without paying.”
Elijah spared him a glance, “you clearly don’t know whom you’ve picked a fight with. But from you two, I expect a very good apology, and perhaps by the time I’m done with you, you’ll understand why it’s important not to pick fights you can’t afford to lose.” Elijah said, looking unmoved by the situation. I, on the other hand, was still angry.
But I could admit, that part of me worried for the owner and his men. Because even though I didn’t know what Elijah had planned, he looked very in control of the situation.
But something was coming, and it seemed like Elijah would not rest, until his new enemies had a taste of the whirlwind.
