Kylie’s POV
I could not ask for a more peaceful life…
It’s been three days and my parents have been trying to contact me and of course, I ignore them. I agree that they bestowed me with kindness since I was a kid but forcing me to marry an old man and throwing me on the streets in the middle of the night is enough for me to cut them off.
Also, I have moved out of their place and am no longer relying on them. I was not obliged to be in contact with them anymore.
Irun into Justin now and then because of my internship but he seems to have given up after I rejected his grand gesture of love. Currently, he spends his time showing off Lisa as his trophy girlfriend and honestly, it makes me laugh. Neither of them is loyal to each other, I was just gonna sit back and watch as these two sabotage each other.
Yesterday, during the practice, Elijah met with a minor accident resulting in a big scratch on his right arm. Since the nurse was busy, I was the one who personally treated his injury and bandaged it.
Today, it was time to change the dressing and reapply the medicine so that it healed faster. But to my surprise, the wound was already healed and there was not even a
mark left.
The scissors dropped from my hands, where did the wound go? It was not a serious wound but it wasn’t that minor either, it should have at least taken a week to heal. How did he fix it overnight?
Seeing that I was standing there unmoving, Elijah asked, “What happened, princess? Why are you standing there as if you have seen a ghost?”
“Your… your wound. It’s gone.” I muttered.
“What are you talking about?” He checked his arm and chuckled, “Oh, that. It has healed.”
“How?”
“What do you mean, how? It was a small injury anyway.”
“No, it was not.” I said, “It should have taken at least a week to heal.”
“A week is for weaklings, sweetheart.” The man winked at me playfully, “I am a football player, I get these scratches all the time. My body has long adapted to it.”
“But… But this….” I was about to retaliate but he stood up from his seat. He said, “It is your first time working in the sports department, right? That is why it might look weird to you but trust me, it is normal.”
I lowered my eyes and nodded, “You are right… I must be overthinking this.”

“See, I know you are a smart one.” Elijah ruffled my hair before running off to the field. After he left, I dropped on the seat next to me and started to put back all the
medicines on the kit.
I tried not to think about it but several questions came back to my head. His explanation was trustworthy but for some reason, I was not buying it.
To satisfy my curiosity, I went to the library after the match ended and looked it up on the internet.
So far, I have not found any evidence that supports his claims that football players can heal faster. Even the internet said that healing so fast was humanly impossible.
“Screw this!” I turned off the computer and said, “Whatever it is, I am going to find out in the second round of physical tests anyway.”
The physical test was two days later on Monday, I will just have to see through the weekends to find an answer.
Today was an exhausting day, could not wait to get back to my dorm room and soak myself in the warmth of my bed. Life was finally starting to look good, or so I thought…
As soon as I entered the gates of the dormitory building, I was summoned by the warden to her office.
“This is not gonna be good.” I told myself as my gut was wrecking with anxiety.
I knocked on the door, grabbing the attention of middle–aged Mrs. Johnson who was the in–charge of this dormitory chain. “Ma’am, you called me?”
“Kylie! Come in.”
“Is everything alright, Mrs. Johnson?” I sat down on the chair asking.
The woman removed her spectacles and said, “Kylie, you can’t live here.”
Her calm words sent a hurricane down my system. I asked, “What? Why?”
The woman said, “I am sorry, Kylie, but we only provide dorm facilities with the consent of the parents. And I just noticed that you did not submit a No–Objection Certificate.”
I knew it!
I was suspicious, there was no way my parents would just give up and let me live in peace. Not even three days and they are getting me kicked out again.
I tried to explain to Mrs. Johnson that I was in a difficult spot right now and how I even got the internship just for the accommodation. The woman, however, crossed her arms and said, “I know that things are going rough for you but rules are rules, my dear. You can either get the certificate from your parents that they approve of you living here or look for another place to stay.”
I gave up, there was no point in talking anymore. I was not getting the certificate so the only option that was left for me was to look for another accommodation. Mrs.

Johnson was kind enough to give me a one–week notice period so that I don’t end up in the streets.
I went back to my room and dropped on the bed, I was too exhausted to even move a limb. My eyes were heavy and I wanted to sleep but the thoughts bouncing around in
head would not let me.

After tossing and turning for a bit, I decided to give up on making further attempts to rest and picked up my phone to call Jessica.
I told her the entire thing and she, as always, was furious.
“This is villainous! What the hell do your parents want from you at this point?”
I touched my temples and said, “I am disappointed but not surprised. They won’t stop until I succumb to them and do as they say.”
“And… are you gonna do that?”
“Never.”
“That’s my girl.” Jessica said proudly and asked, “So, do you have any plans up your sleeve?”
I nodded, “I am going to rent a house near school. I had some money saved for you know what, since I am not using it anymore, I might rather use it for a down payment.”
“Mmmm… That’s a good idea.” Jessica said, “Let’s start house hunting immediately then. If I find a place that fits the criteria, we can go check it out together.”
I hung up and pulled out the housing information around my area. Since there are many schools and universities around this area, a lot of residents dominating the population are students. The rent is cheaper and affordable.
There were a lot of houses available for rent, so I quickly noted down the ones that sat right in the criteria I was looking for, I talked to the owners and they called me to see the property tomorrow. I agreed since I had no classes or matches tomorrow.
I texted Jessica asking if she could accompany me and she immediately agreed.
The next day, I woke up early in the morning to get ready to see the houses. I just took out my phone to text Jessica asking if she was here yet only to see an incoming call from her.
“Woah, telepathy!” I said to myself and picked up the phone, “Girl, are you here yet?”
“Kylie, I am sorry, babe. But I won’t be able to come today.” Her apologetic tone rang through the phone.
I sat down on the bed, dejected, “Why? What happened?”
Turns out Jessica’s uncle met with an accident in another city and she was rushing to see him with her parents. It was a family emergency, that is why she had to leave.
Jessica sounded extremely guilty about bailing me but I assured her that it was alright.

After hanging up on her, I called a few people from my class to ask if they could accompany me. That was when I realized that people are damn busy even on weekends; while some were busy with swimming, dance, and archery lessons. Yes, archery! The others were either out with their family or on a date.
After calling more than eight people, I decided to give up and go alone.
I took my side sling purse and noticed that the stitch in it was kind of falling apart. I checked it a bit, it looked good enough to last a few more months. Even if it wasn’t, I had to convince myself that it would, I had no money to squander on luxuries right
now.
I walked out of the dormitory to run into someone I did not expect to meet. Elijah was standing on the other side of the street, talking to his best friend–Joe.
