“I see…” She said, her eyes hovering over my entire body like she was looking for something she’d lost. “You’ve added a lot of weight.
I didn’t like where this was heading.
1 forced a tight smile. ‘So… you asked to see me.”
I was done waiting for judgment. She could say
whatever she needed to say.
But I was here for one reason: to protect the man they all seemed to how hate.
“I need you to let Kester go,” she said quietly, staring at me, probably expecting a reaction. But I gave none. I just listened.
She inhaled slowly, the way she used to when she was about to give bad news.
“He’s dangerous, Kasmine. He’s ruining you. And he will ruin you even more if you don’t end this madness now.”
I let out a small, nervous smile.
“The baby, Kasmine,” She said and paused.
I almost choked on my breath.
What? She… She knew about it? How is that even possible?
Did Kester tell them?
I swallowed hard but did all I could to compose myself.
“You need to get rid of it. It’s the only way to be free of him,” she pressed. “Otherwise, he’ll never stop coming back to you, not if there’s a baby. He’ll use it. Use you. This isn’t a family. It’s a trap, Kasmine.”
That was when something snapped inside me.
I sat forward, burning from the inside. “You think the right thing is for me to rip a child out of my body? My child? And then throw Kester away just like that?”
She didn’t answer. She just pressed her lips together.
“You’re unbelievable,” I said, rising to my feet. My voice shook from rage. “Do you even hear yourself right now? You’re asking me to destroy an innocent child who has done nothing to you? That’s your solution?”
I shook my head, disgust crawling up my throat. “How did you even know I was pregnant?” I asked. “Who told you?”
She didn’t say anything. Just sat there, like she’d been slapped. Good!
I had come to listen to her, just like I promised the other day, even though I was certain the decision would have made if I had made it here that day would have been different from what I’d decided to do now. But hearing her say something this cruel?
“Allow me to protect you, Kasmine. You’re too young for this- she started, but I cut her off.

That was selfish of her. She wasn’t looking out for me. She was looking out for herself,
Her face twisted slightly, but I didn’t stop.
“You say you want to protect me. But you don’t even know me. If you did, you’d know I would never do something so cruel.”
“Kasmine…”
“No, Mum, don’t.” I halted her with a wave of my hand, “Don’t ‘Kasme‘ me like I’m some child who doesn’t know what she’s doing. If you even cared about me, you would have seen this soon enough to have stopped it even before the Moon Goddess interfered!
Her eyes lit up with confusion and curiosity, “What are you talking about, Kasmine? She sat straighter, almost pushing herself off the bed.
I didn’t mean to say that. But maybe I should let the cat out of the bag already. There was no need to keep it in anymore, so I dropped the truth on her.
“Kester and Thave been having an affair right under your nose!” I blurted out.
The way her face froze gave me a strange, vicious satisfaction. Her jaw slackened, and her nostrils flared like she couldn’t decide whether to scream or faint.
I had always wanted her to reap the consequences of her negligence someday. And I think this was one of the best consequences
ever.
“What?” she choked out.
I stepped closer, letting every word sink in with the depth it deserved. “You didn’t really think I got pregnant just one week after we found out we were mates, did you?” I scoffed. “No. We’ve been fucking for months.”
It was instant. Her hand moved, landing on my face with the kind of force that pulled blood out of the corner of my mouth.
“How dare you?” She was enraged, “How dare you commit such sin right under our nostrils? Kasmine!”
I wiped the blood off my mouth, meeting her glare without blinking, “You want to know how? Because you weren’t paying attention, Mum. “You were too busy playing perfect Luna, to notice your daughter was drowning!” I spat, picked up my bag, and turned to leave. But I stopped just before walking out the door and looked over my shoulder.
“No matter what anyone does, I’m not leaving him. Not when everyone’s turning against him. And not when he needs someone in his corner right now. And I’m sure as hell not killing our baby just to make your life easier.”
“You’re making a terrible mistake, Kasmine,” she said after finding her voice.
“No, Mum,” I replied, pulling the door open. “You already did.”
And with that, I walked away.
