But June stepped in my path.
“Kester,” she murmured, tilting her head slightly, her voice dripping with something that made my patience snap.
She was an inconvenience. A fucking obstacle standing between me and the only person.
that mattered.
My jaw clenched. My fingers curled around the fabric in my hands.
“What is it, June?” I bit out, my voice colder than ice.
She didn’t move.
Her head tilted slightly, lips curled into something that was meant to be inviting.
But I wasn’t fucking invited.
“I spoke to my father,” she started, her voice too soft and coaxing.
I didn’t react. I just stared at her, waiting for her to move the fuck out of my way.
“He’s eager to help you, Kes.” She called that name, and it sounded foreign. It only sounded better when Kasmine called it. “And he said we could discuss it over dinner when
we return.”
That made me pause.
My grip on the pajama fabric tightened slightly.
She must have noticed because her lips curved even more, and before I could react, her hand was on my chest.
Her fingers trailed downward, and my skin crawled.
That fucking touch. I wanted to rip it off me..
But I held still, barely keeping myself in check because I needed to hear the rest. I needed. to know exactly what her father had said and how he planned to help me.

Chapter 174
I let her talk.
And I fucking hated that I had to let her talk.
June took my silence as permission to press closer. The scent of her perfume hit me, floral and sweet, so unlike the intoxicating wild scent of Kasmine.
“He’s willing to step in for you,” she purred. But he wants to meet in person. He says it’s best to handle matters like this with people we trust. People who are… close.”
“We’ll pay him a visit, then. I managed, and she smiled.
“You know… I’ve been telling my father a lot of good things about you. He’d be glad to see how happy we are together, Kester,” She whispered, standing a fraction of an inch away from me, her chest brushing the hard ridge of mine.
Her hand moved lower.
Way too low for my liking.
And then she leaned in, “Kiss me. Touch me, Kes… You’ve never touched me before. I’ll do
anything to get you to…” She pleaded, her breath warm against my lips.
Wrong.
Everything about this was fucking wrong. And when her lips brushed against mine,
something snapped.
I moved fast–too fast for her to react.
In one swift motion, I slammed her against the wall, my hand wrapping around her throat and pinning her in place.
She gasped with her eyes wide, her fingers clutching at my wrist while her towel slipped slightly as she struggled.
“Don’t,” My voice was a deadly growl, my fingers tightening just enough to make sure she fucking understood. “Don’t ever touch me like that again.”
Her nails dug into my skin while her breath came out quick and unsteady. “I–Kester, I was only-”

I leaned in enough for her to feel the full extent of my fury. “Do I look like I fucking want
this?”
Her lips trembled.
I held her there for another second, watching the way her pupils dilated under my glare, the way her body tensed, and her throat bobbing under my grip..
“You ever try this again, you’ll regret every bit of it.” I bit out before harshly letting her
- go.
She stumbled slightly, hands flying to her neck, her breaths ragged.
I didn’t spare her another glance.
I grabbed my pajamas off the bed and stormed out, slamming the door behind me.
Fuck her.
