Chapter 8
“I don’t see a point in saving our marriage now. Get in.”
While Austin did get into the car, he refused to drive.
He looked at me tearfully. “No one is perfect. I made a mistake because I didn’t see Kirsty for who she was. We’ve been together for eleven years. Shouldn’t that count as something? I deserve a shot to make things right. I never meant to hurt you!”
“If you didn’t mean to hurt me, why did I have to go through years of gaslighting, suffer massive bleeding from early labor, and lose my child?”
Instead of crying, I kept my composure the whole time.
However, Austin put his hands over his face, tears spilling between the cracks of his fingers.
I was annoyed. “You can cry once our divorce is finalized. Don’t waste my time.”
When Austin took time off to go on vacation with Kirsty, I cried bitter tears after a fight with him, and he told me, “I’m on a night shift later. Can you not waste my time? I could be
resting by now.”
Given Austin’s lack of opposition, the divorce proceedings were concluded.
Out of the courthouse, he grabbed me and promised, “I lost you because of my mistake. I will win you back.”
I broke free of him. “Don’t bother. You and I are never getting back together.”
“I don’t believe that. I’ve stolen your heart once, and I can do it again.”
As Austin had nothing better to do during his suspension, he was on my tail day in and day
out.
He cooked for me.

Austin would attend church, keeping me in his prayers.

Due to my love for unique fashion pieces, he designed one himself and spent a fortune bringing his design to life.
Turns out, he had always known the way to my heart. He simply didn’t care enough to make me happy before.
Autumn smirked. “I’m luckier than you. At least Aaron will only try to get on my nerves by getting new girlfriends instead of fake–romancing me.”
“Don’t compare them. Both brothers are losers.”
We went away on a two–week vacation for a change of scenery.
When we returned, Autumn resumed her position as an obstetrician.
I applied for a job as an assistant to a well–known designer at a fashion house.
Three years later, Autumn would be walking down the aisle to her new beau.
A day before the wedding, Aaron came to Autumn in a fluster.
“When did you find yourself a new man? Why are you getting married out of the blue?”
“It’s none of your business.”
“I know. Is this just an act to get under my skin, Autumn? Fine, I’ll admit it. You have always been the one for me. All those women I had were only to make you jealous.”
Autumn rolled her eyes. “Oh, please. Save me your narcissistic remarks. I’m not a child to play these games with you. I’m only marrying for one reason, and it is out of love.”
Aaron got wasted and bawled his eyes out on the day of the wedding.
Finding him an eyesore, I called Austin over. “Take your brother away. He can stop embarrassing himself.”
“Anything for you.”

Austin helped Aaron up and looked at me lovingly.
I had no time for Austin as a certain designer was on my case about making our relationship official.

“Autumn and her man got together later than we did. They are married now. When are you going to make me your boyfriend? After all the times I’ve kept your bed warm, what do you
take me for?”
The nagging was getting to me.
I caught Autumn’s bouquet toss and passed the flowers to him.
Mr. Big Shot Designer insisted on taking a photo together. He didn’t just stop at posting the photo on his social media accounts; he made me do the same.
The caption he made me type out was, “Huh? How did you know he’s the boyfriend I’m going to marry?”
I found the whole thing childish. Still, I played along. Otherwise, I would be weighed down by questions of whether I even had feelings for him.
Not long after I made things official online, Austin gave me a call, his voice choking in sobs.
“Are you… going to marry him?”
“Yes.”
“I thought I stood a chance.”
“You lost it the day our baby died.”
I ended the call and blocked his number.
My jealous boyfriend got upset when it came to my ex–husband. I did not want him to feel
hurt and insecure like I used to.
People in relationships should set boundaries with members of the opposite sex, and

surely, Austin would get the message by now.
