Here I thought that since I had reached rock bottom, nothing could break me anymore.
However, Austin’s horrible response sucked the air right out of me.
I slammed the door shut, and Austin withdrew his arms while gasping in pain.
The door closed with a loud bang.
He believed he could erase the past and start over, but not on my watch.
Autumn and I sat on the sofa, neither of us in the right state of mind.
I asked, “It took you three years to be with Aaron. Are you happy to give up on him now?”
“His indifference has put out any feelings I had for him. What about you? You’ve been with
Austin for more than a decade. Heck, you were high school sweethearts. He’s talking about making amends. Are you going to give him another chance?”
I shook my head. “I waited over a decade for him to change. It never came, and I don’t want to wait anymore.”
It was awful to always be the second choice.
I was frail, to begin with. All the fuss wore me out completely.
Autumn tucked me into bed. Since she took the day off work, she sat next to me, her mind wandering elsewhere.
Not long after Austin left, he returned with containers of homemade dinner.
His hand was a real mess after getting caught in the door.
Austin was cautious, trying to appease me.
“Takeout isn’t the healthiest option, so I made you something. You can be angry with me,
but don’t take it out on yourself. Your health is more important than anything else.

Nothing else matters.”
Not wanting to upset me, Austin left promptly after delivering the food.
For the following week, he covered all my meals.
Usually, he would be busy with work and reserved his spare time for Kirsty. It wasn’t
surprising to see hi
surprising to see him home once a fortnight.

Now that the divorce papers were served, Austin was more present in my life than ever. It was a joke.
The next time he brought food, I threw it back at him.
“I nearly died on the operating table, and our son is gone, Austin. Do you think all these food deliveries will make up for the hurt?”
“That’s not my intention! I only want to give you the world. You can hit me if that makes you feel better.”
With his clothes soaked in sauce, Austin looked like a mess.
He was a clean freak. Even so, he made no fuss and anxiously tried to explain himself to me.
I was unmoved by his proposal. “I’ll see you once our divorce is finalized. I don’t want to
see your face before that happens. Just leave.”
Austin did nothing but cook for the whole week. He was beyond help.
I pushed him out. As the door shut tight, Autumn’s muffled voice became apparent to me.
“So what if Aaron has been drinking himself silly?
“I wasted three years of my life to be with him. Am I supposed to be all over him forever? He made a mistake. How is that my fault? He expects me to be the bigger person and forget the whole thing. Who does he think he is?
“Bella and I kept to ourselves when Austin and Aaron stood up for Kirsty. Yet, they made us

apologize to her. They couldn’t even tell their crush off for almost taking two lives.
“We can’t be friends anymore if you continue to defend Aaron.”
Autumn ended the call and asked, “Do you have everything, Bella?”
“Yes.”

We gave Austin and Aaron a week. We would choose to end things amicably if they were apologetic enough to hold her accountable.
They had let us down one too many times. They did not deserve forgiveness.
We called Kirsty out online for her animal abuse, for driving me into early labor, and for becoming the other woman in the Luther brothers‘ marriages.
Not to mention, we tagged her, Austin, and Aaron’s social media handles.
Kirsty was an influencer. Since Autumn and I paid to build traffic on the post, the video
evidence quickly went viral.
