_Mira’s POV_
When I finally stepped into Killian’s room, my heart ached at the sight of him. He lay on the hospital bed, pale and still, with an oxygen mask covering his face. The steady beeping of the machines was the only sound in the room, a reminder that he was alive. But seeing him like this–so vulnerable–made my chest tighten.
I pulled a chair up to his bedside, my hands trembling as I reached for his. His fingers were cold, but they twitched slightly when I touched them, giving me a shred of hope.
“Killian,” I whispered, my voice shaking. “It’s me. I am here.”
His eyelids fluttered, and a soft groan escaped his lips. I leaned closer, holding my breath as his eyes slowly opened. His gaze was unfocused at first, but when his eyes met mine, a weak smile spread across his face.
“Hey,” he murmured, his voice hoarse. “You look like you have been crying.”
I let out a shaky laugh, tears spilling down my cheeks again. “Of course I have been crying. You scared me half to death, Killian.”
He tried to chuckle but winced, his hand moving instinctively to his bandaged side. “Guess I have still got my flair for the dramatic, huh?”
I shook my head, wiping my tears with the back of my hand. “This isn’t funny. You almost died. Do you have any idea what that did to me?”
Killian’s smile faded, and he looked at me with a seriousness that made my heart skip a beat. “Mira,” he said softly, his voice steady despite his exhaustion. “I’d do it all over again if it meant keeping you safe.”
His words hit me like a punch to the gut. I squeezed his hand, my fingers trembling. “You shouldn’t have to do that. You shouldn’t have to risk your life for me.”
He gave me a faint smirk, his eyes shining with a mix of affection and exhaustion. “It wasn’t a risk. It was a choice. And it was the easiest one I’ve ever made.”
I bit my lip, trying to hold back another wave of tears. “You’re so stubborn,” I whispered. “Why do you always have to put yourself in danger?”
“Because you matter to me,” he said, his voice firm despite how weak he looked. “You’re worth it, Mira. You’re worth everything.”
I couldn’t hold back anymore. The tears spilled over, and I leaned forward, resting my forehead against his hand. “You can’t do this to me, Killian,” I said, my voice breaking. “I can’t lose you. I won’t survive it.”
“You won’t lose me,” he said gently, his thumb brushing against my cheek. “I’m not going anywhere, Mira. I
promise.”
I sat back, looking into his eyes. “You can’t make promises like that,” I said, my voice trembling. “Not when you keep throwing yourself in front of danger for me.”
His lips twitched into a small smile. “It’s my job to protect you.”
“No,” I said firmly, shaking my head. “It’s not your job. You’re not my bodyguard, Killian. You’re-” I stopped, my heart pounding as I realized what I was about to say.

“Do you mean that?” he asked qty
I nodded, my throat tight. Tve been too afraid to say it before. But after today after almost losing you

He nodded, his smile growing. “Of course I have. You think I’d take a bullet for just anyone? You’re not just

His words made my heart soar and ache at the same time. I leaned closer, pressing my forehead against his. 1 don’t deserve you, I whispered,
“You deserve so much more than me,” he said, his voice gentle. “But I’m selfish, and I want to be the one you

I laughed softly, tears streaming down my face. “You’re impossible,” I said.
“And you love me for it,” he said, his smirk returning
I smiled, brushing his hair back from his face. “I do, I admitted. “I love you, Killian.”
His eyes shone with emotion, and he squeezed my hand. “I love you too, Mira,” he said, his voice steady despite the tears glistening in his eyes.
We sat there in silence for a moment, the weight of everything we’d been through settling around us.
Killian was here, alive and safe. And he loved me. That was all that mattered.
I sat back in the chair, still holding his hand, and smiled. “So,” I said, trying to lighten the mood, “when you get out of here, you still owe me that picnic. And no getting shot this time.”
He chuckled softly, wincing slightly but smiling through it. “Deal,” he said. “But only if you promise to stop
blaming yourself for everything.”
I hesitated but nodded. “I’ll try,” I said.
“Good,” he said, his voice soft but firm. “Because you’re stuck with me, Mira. And I’m not going anywhere.”
