Chapter 77
Mira’s POV
The Luna paced the small room as I leaned against the cold stone wall. My heart pounded in frustation The
muffled sounds of fighting outside clawed at my nerves, each scream and shout a reminder that my pack
was in danger while I was stuck here, useless.
“Luna,” I began for the third time, my voice firm, “you have to let me out there. I can help”
Her eyes flashed with worry. “Mira, no. Your father would never forgive me if anything happened to you”
I clenched my fists. “I’m not a child, I’ve trained for this. And…” I hesitated but decided to press on. “My powers–my bond with my wolf–it’s awakened. I’m stronger now. I can fight.”
Her expression softened for a moment, but she shook her head. “You don’t understand, Mira. The battlefield isn’t just about strength. It’s about survival, strategy, and sacrifice. You’re needed here, safe.”
Her words only made the frustration boil hotter. “But I need to help them. Please.”
“No,” she said firmly, her voice leaving no room for argument. “Your place is here. Your father and Killian will
protect us.”
I bit my lip to keep from shouting in anger. My place wasn’t here, hiding while my loved ones fought. Desperation clawed at my chest. I had to find a way out.
An idea formed in my mind–a reckless, desperate idea, but it might work. I slumped against the wall, clutching my stomach as I let out a sharp cry. “Luna,” I gasped, “something’s wrong. I. I can’t breathe! She rushed to my side, her face etched with concern. “Mira? What’s happening? Are you hurt?”
I groaned, doubling over. “My stomach… it hurts so much. I think… I think I need a doctor.”
Panic flickered in her eyes. She pulled out her phone, quickly dialing. But after a moment, she cursed under her breath. “The doctor isn’t answering.”
I groaned louder, clutching my stomach tighter. “Please, Luna. I can’t-“I broke off, feigning a gasp for air. She bit her lip, glancing toward the locked door. “Hold on, Mira. I’ll find someone. Just stay with me.”
I watched as she moved to unlock the safe room door. The moment the lock clicked open, I bolted.
“Mira!” she shouted after me. “Come back! Don’t do this!”
But I didn’t stop. I didn’t even look back. My feet pounded against the ground as I ran toward the sound of
chaos.
The front doors of the packhouse were wide open, and the scene outside made my heart plummet. Warriors fought fiercely, but the enemy wasn’t normal.
The rogues moved with unnatural jerks, their bodies twisted and pale, like something out of a nightmare. Their eyes glowed a sickly green, and their skin was marred with dark veins and jagged scars.
I froze for a moment, horrified. These weren’t just rogues. They looked like… zombies.
As I scanned the battlefield, my heart stopped. My father was surrounded, fighting off three of them at once. His movements were strong, but even he couldn’t hold them off forever.

“Dad!” I shouted, rushing toward him.
His head snapped up, and his eyes widened. “Mira? What are you doing here? Go back!”
“No!” I shouted back, dodging a rogue that lunged at me. “I’m not leaving you!”
Points
His jaw tightened, but there was no time for argument. The rogues pressed in closer, and I jumped into the
fray.
I swung my arm, claws extended, and slashed at one of the rogues. My blow landed, but it barely stumbled. I gasped as it turned its glowing eyes on me, hissing with rage.
My confidence faltered. These things weren’t like anything I’d ever fought before. They were faster, stronger,
and… wrong.
“Focus, Mira!” my wolf urged, her voice strong in my mind. “You can do this. Tap into your power. Trust me.”
I took a deep breath, centering myself. The next rogue lunged at me, and this time, I stepped into its attack, using its momentum to throw it to the ground. A surge of power rippled through me, and I struck again, this time with more force.
But my brief victory was short–lived. A piercing cry caught my attention, and I turned to see Killian.
He was fighting two rogues at once, his movements sharp and calculated. Relief filled me for a moment- until one of them sank its teeth into his arm.
“Killian!” I screamed, my heart lurching.
He growled in pain, throwing the rogue off him, but it was too late. I watched in horror as his skin began to change.
Dark veins spread from the bite, crawling up his arm and across his chest. His eyes, once warm and mischievous, now glowed the same sickly green as the rogues. His jaw tightened, and his body convulsed as the change took hold.
“Killian!” I called again, running toward him.
He turned to me, but there was no recognition in his gaze. His lips pulled back in a snarl, and he lunged. “No!” I cried, dodging his attack. “Killian, it’s me! Please, fight it!”
But he didn’t stop. His claws slashed at me, and I barely managed to evade. Tears blurred my vision as I faced him.
“Killian, please,” I begged. “You’re stronger than this. Don’t let it take you.”
For a brief moment, his movements faltered, and something flickered in his eyes. But then he roared, the sound guttural and inhuman.
I stumbled back, my heart breaking. This wasn’t Killian. Not anymore.
“Mira,” my wolf said, her voice steady. “You have to fight. If you don’t, more will fall. Trust in our power. Trust in yourself.”
I wiped my tears, forcing myself to focus. “I can’t hurt him,” I whispered.
“You won’t hurt him,” she assured me. “You’ll save him. But you have to be strong.”
Killian lunged again, and this time, I stood my ground. I dodged his claws and struck back, aiming to subdue

rather than harm.
“I’m sorry, Killian,” I whispered as I fought. “I’ll find a way to save you. I promise.”
The battle around us raged on, and I knew time was running out. If I didn’t act soon, more of my pack would
fall.
Taking a deep breath, I reached deep within myself, calling on the power my wolf had awakened. A surge of warmth filled me, and light began to glow around my hands.
Killian charged again, but this time, I caught his arm, the light spreading from my touch. He froze, his body convulsing as the glow enveloped him.
“Fight it, Killian,” I whispered, tears streaming down my face. “Come back to me.”
For a moment, everything was still. Then he collapsed to his knees, the green glow fading from his eyes.
“Mira?” he rasped, his voice weak but his own.
I dropped to my knees beside him, pulling him into my arms. “I’m here,” I said, sobbing. “I’m here.”
Around us, the battle continued, but I felt a spark of hope. If I could save Killian, maybe we could save the
others too.
But one thing was certain: this wasn’t just a battle for survival. It was a battle for the soul of our pack.
