Chapter 76
Mira’s POV

Killian didn’t leave my side the entire day. It was like he had made it his personal mission to drive me insane, and if I were being honest, he was succeeding. Everywhere I went, he was there, hovering, teasing, and flashing that infuriatingly charming smile that made it impossible to stay annoyed for long.
It started in the kitchen when I went to grab breakfast. He leaned casually against the counter, his arms crossed as he watched me pour myself a cup of tea.
“Do you always stare this much?” I asked, arching an eyebrow.
“Only when there’s something worth staring at,” he replied, his voice smooth.
I rolled my eyes, hiding my smile behind my cup. “You’re impossible.”
“And yet, you haven’t told me to leave.” He pushed off the counter and moved closer, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
“I figured if I ignored you long enough, you would get bored,” I said, keeping my tone light.
He laughed softly, a low, rich sound that made my stomach flip. “You should know better by now. I don’t get bored, especially not with you around.”
I tried to focus on my tea, but his gaze was too intense, too distracting. “Killian, don’t you have something better to do? Warriors to train, strategies to plan?”
“Maybe,” he said, shrugging. “But I would much rather spend my time with you.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
“And you’re beautiful,” he countered, his voice dropping to a soft murmur.
I nearly choked on my tea, setting the cup down quickly. “You can’t just say things like that,” I muttered, my cheeks burning.
“Why not? It’s the truth,” he said, stepping even closer. He reached out, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear. His touch was gentle, lingering just a second too long.
My heart raced, and I hated how easily he could fluster me. “You’re incorrigible,” I said, trying to sound annoyed, but the smile tugging at my lips betrayed me.
“And yet, you haven’t run away,” he said, his grin widening.
I rolled my eyes again, turning away before he could see the effect he was having on me.
It didn’t stop there.
When I went to the training grounds, he followed. At first, I thought he was just passing by, but then he
stayed, leaning against the fence with that same smug expression on his face.
“Are you going to stand there all day, or do you actually plan to do something useful?” I called out, pausing in my sparring session to glare at him.
“I’m doing something very useful,” he replied, grinning. “I’m admiring my future mate.”

I groaned, shaking my head. “Killian, you’re distracting me.”
“Good,” he said, walking closer. “Maybe then you’ll finally give me your full attention.”
“I’m training,” I said firmly, turning back to face my sparring partner.
He chuckled. “Don’t let me stop you. I’m perfectly content watching.”
His words made my cheeks heat, but I refused to let him win. I focused on my training, determined to ignore him, but his presence was impossible to block out. Every time I glanced his way, he was watching me with that same infuriatingly confident smile.
When training was finally over, I walked past him, ignoring his outstretched hand.
“Still playing hard to get?” he asked, falling into step beside me.
“Some of us have responsibilities,” I said, refusing to look at him.
“And some of us have priorities,” he countered.
“And I suppose your priority is annoying me?” I shot back.
“Not at all,” he said, his voice softening. “My priority is winning you over.”
His words made me pause, and I glanced at him. For once, there was no teasing in his expression. Just
sincerity.
“You’re impossible,” I said again, but my voice lacked its usual bite.
“And you love it,” he replied, his smile returning.
By the time dinner rolled around, I was exhausted–not from training, but from dealing with Killian’s relentless teasing. The dining room was filled with the warm, comforting smell of roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and fresh rolls. It was the kind of meal that reminded me of simpler times, before all the chaos.
Killian sat beside me, close enough that our shoulders brushed every time he moved. It was a small thing, but it made my heart race all the same.
After dinner, he leaned over, his voice low. “Come to my room. Let’s watch a movie,”
I hesitated, glancing around the room. “What about your parents? Or my
“They won’t even notice,” he said with a shrug. “They’re too busy talking strategy or whatever.”
He wasn’t wrong. Alpha Roger and the Luna were deep in conversation, and my dad was busy with them. No one was paying us any attention.
“Fine,” I said, trying to sound indifferent, but my heart was racing.
When we got to his room, he flopped onto the bed, grabbing the remote. “So, what do you want to watch?”
“Anything is fine,” I said, sitting on the edge of the bed.
He raised an eyebrow. “Anything? Because I know you don’t like my kind of movies.”
“And what exactly is your kind of movie?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“Thrillers. Action–packed stuff. Explosions, car chases, the good stuff,” he said with a smirk. “Not those cliché romance movies you’re probably into. You know, the ones where the girl always ends up with the guy who saves her from some tragic misunderstanding.”

“We’ll see about that,” I said with a grin
He put on a movie called fose of the Undead it was about a group of survivors trying to escape a city overrun
by zombies. The eerie music started right away, and I felt a shiver run down my spine
We sat side by side on his bed, the screen casting flickering shadows across the room. Every time a jump
scare caught me off guard, Killian squeezed my hand
“You okay there, scaredy cat?” he teased after I jumped for the third time.
Tm fine,” I said, trying to sound brave, but my racing heart betrayed me.
We were watching a calm scene–one of the survivors gathering supplies–when I suddenly heard screaming
1 frowned, looking at the screen. The images didn’t match the sound. The scene was quiet, but the screams grew louder
“Killian,” I said, nudging him. “There’s a problem.”
His head tilted, listening. Then he sat up straight, his playful demeanor gone. “You’re right. Let’s check it out.”
We rushed downstairs, and the scene was chactic. Alpha Roger stood in the middle of the room, barking
orders at the warriors.
“Gather the others! We fight them off now!” he shouted.
“What’s going on?” I asked, my voice shaking.
“The pack is under attack,” Killian said, his jaw tightening
“Is it Aaron again?” I whispered, fear creeping into my chest.
Before anyone could answer, the Luna appeared and grabbed my arm. “Mira, come with me to the safe room.”
“No,” I said firmly, “I’m trained. I can help.”
But my dad cut me off. “Mira, no. Go with the Luna.”
“Dad, please,” I begged. “I can fight. Let me help.”
His expression was hard, his tone leaving no room for argument. “Just listen to me. Go.”
Killian stepped closer, brushing his lips against my cheek. “Don’t worry, Mira. Stay safe here. We’ll win this fight and come back victorious. I promise.”
Before I could respond, the Luna tugged on my arm, pulling me toward the safe room. I turned back, watching as Killian, my dad, and Alpha Roger headed outside with the other warriors.
My heart ached watching them leave. I didn’t want to sit here while they fought. Every fiber of my being screamed to join them, to stand by their side and defend our pack.
As the Luna locked the door to the safe room, I clenched my fists, determination bubbling inside me. I

couldn’t just sit here. I had to do something.
