Mira’s POV

”
The day had finally come to start the ritual. Anxiety churned in my stomach as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the land. Killian and I sat together in the dinning room, finishing dinner. I barely touched my food. I was too nervous to eat.
“You should eat something,” Killian said, his voice gentle but firm. “You’ll need your strength for what’s ahead,
I pushed a piece of bread around my plate, forcing myself to take a bite. “I know,” I murmured. “I just can’t stop thinking about everything that could go wrong.”
Killian reached across the table, his hand warm and steady on mine. “Hey,” he said, his black eyes locking onto mine. “You’ve already done the hard part by gathering the items. Now you just have to trust yourself- and your wolf.”
I nodded, though my nerves didn’t settle. My wolf was quiet in the back of my mind, offering silent support. I knew she was ready for this even if I wasn’t.
Once we finished dinner, we made our excuses to my dad, the Alpha, and my stepmother, the Luna. I told them Killian and I were going on a date, which wasn’t entirely a lie. My dad trusted Killian, so he didn’t question it.
“Be back before midnight,” my dad said with a small smile.
“Of course,” I replied, avoiding his gaze. Guilt pricked at me for not telling him the truth, but I didn’t want to worry him. The pack had enough to deal with after the recent rogue attack.
Killian and I drove in silence to the witch’s cottage. He glanced at me every so often, his expression
unreadable.
“You’re quiet,” he said finally.
“I’m scared,” I admitted.
He reached over, his hand brushing mine. “You’re going to be okay. I’ll be with you every step of the way, even if I can’t take the tests for you.”
His words were comforting, but the knot in my stomach didn’t loosen.
When we arrived at the witch’s cottage, the air felt charged with energy. The witch greeted us at the door, her silver hair glinting in the moonlight.
“Did you bring everything?” she asked, her sharp eyes flicking between us.
Killian held up the bag. “The midnight bloom, the obsidian shard, and Mira’s blood. It’s all here.”
The witch nodded and motioned for us to follow her inside. The room smelled of herbs and candle wax, and a table in the center held several strange tools and symbols carved into its surface.
“Place the items here,” she instructed, gesturing to the table.
Killian carefully emptied the bag, setting the items down one by one. The midnight bloom, now dried and

delicate, lay alongside the dark shard of obsidian and a small vial of my blood.

The witch turned to me, her expression serious. “Tonight, we begin the first part of the ritual. This stage will test your mind. You must confront your deepest fears and doubts. Only by overcoming them can you move
forward.”
I swallowed hard, my hands trembling. “What do I have to do?”
“You will enter a trance,” she explained. “In this state, your mind will create illusions of your fears. They will feel real, but they are not. You must face them, not run from them. If you do, the ritual will fail.”
I nodded, my throat too tight to speak.
Killian frowned, stepping closer to me. “What happens if she can’t do it?”
“She will wake up,” the witch replied calmly. “But the ritual will remain incomplete, and her power will stay
dormant.”
Killian’s jaw tightened. “Is there any way I can help her?”
The witch shook her head. “This test is hers alone. But you may stay by her side to offer support.”
Killian turned to me, his expression softening. “Mira, are you sure about this? We can find another way.”
I shook my head, summoning what little courage I had. “No, Killian. This is the only way to unlock my power. I have to do this–for the pack and for myself.”
His eyes searched mine, and then he sighed, stepping back. “Okay. But I’ll be right here. I’m not leaving you.” The witch motioned for me to lie down on the cushions placed near the table. “Relax and close your eyes,” she said. “Focus on your breathing. Let go of your thoughts and trust the process.”
Killian helped me settle onto the cushions, his hand lingering on mine for a moment before he let go. “You’ve got this, Mira,” he said softly.
The witch began chanting, her voice melodic and rhythmic. The room seemed to shift, growing heavy with energy. My breathing slowed, and I felt myself sinking into a strange, weightless state.
“Mira,” the witch’s voice echoed faintly. “You are entering the realm of your mind. Trust yourself and your wolf.
The room faded, and when I opened my eyes, I was no longer in the cottage. I stood in a dark, misty forest. The air was cold, and the silence was oppressive.
“Where am I?” I called out, my voice trembling.
“I’m here,” my wolf replied, her voice steady and strong. “We’re in your mind. Whatever happens, we face it together.”
Her presence gave me strength, but the forest seemed to close in around me. Shadows moved in the mist, and figures emerged–familiar and terrifying.
My father stood before me, his expression cold and disappointed. “You have failed us, Mira,” he said, his voice echoing in the stillness. “You’re weak. A disgrace to the pack.”
Tears pricked my eyes. “No,” I whispered. “That’s not true.”
The shadows shifted, and Aaron appeared next, his cruel smile sending a shiver down my spine. “You think

you can defeat me?” he sneered. “You’re nothing. You are weak and I will sacrifice you to end my curse”
Anger flared in my chest, but doubt crept in. What if he was right?
“Don’t listen to them,” my wolf growled. “They’re not real. Fight them, Mira.”
I clenched my fists, drawing strength from her words. “You’re wrong,” I said, my voice trembling but determined. “I am strong. And I will defeat you.”
The shadows laughed, their voices merging into a deafening roar. I closed my eyes, focusing on my breathing. “Now,” I said firmly, “let’s end this.”

My wolf growled in agreement, and together, we lunged at the shadows. Light burst from within me, blinding and warm, shattering the darkness.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back in the cottage. I gasped, sitting up abruptly.
Killian was at my side instantly, his hands on my shoulders. “Mira! Are you okay?”
“I… I did it,” I said, my voice shaking. “I faced them.”
The witch smiled. “You’ve passed the first test. Rest now, Mira. The second stage will test your body, and it will demand even more from you.”
Killian wrapped an arm around me as I leaned into him. I felt so weak and tired. “You were amazing,” he whispered. “I knew you could do it.”
I smiled faintly. The first trial was over, but the hardest challenges were still ahead. For now, I took comfort in Killian’s presence and the knowledge that I had taken the first step toward unlocking my power.
