Chapter 66

Mira’s POV

The night was restless. I tossed and turned in bed, unable to find peace. My mind raced with thoughts of the

witch and what she might tell me. Maybe it was the unfamiliar surroundings or the tension of being in the

packhouse that kept me awake. Either way, when morning came, I felt like I hadn’t slept at all

A sharp knock on my door startled me. I groaned and pulled the blanket over my head, willing whoever it was

to go away

Mira, wake up,Killian’s voice called out, firm and unrelenting

Go away, Killian!I shouted back, my voice muffled by the blanket

The knocking didn’t stop. If anything, it grew louder. You know I’m not leaving until you open this door.”

I sat up, frustration bubbling inside me. I’m up! Give me a minute!”

Grumbling, I dragged myself out of bed and headed for the bathroom. A quick shower helped me feel slightly more human, though the fatigue still clung to me. After dressing, I made my way downstairs, where the smell of breakfast greeted me

The dining table was laden with foodpancakes stacked high with syrup drizzled on top, crispy bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and an assortment of bread and pastries. Luna Marinette, Alpha Roger, my dad, and, of course, Killian were already seated

Killian spotted me first and gestured to the seat beside him. “Morning, Mira. Come sit here.”

I hesitated, but with everyone’s eyes on me, I didn’t want to make a scene. Reluctantly, I sat down next to him

What do you want to eat?he asked, leaning closer

I gave him a sharp look. I can choose for myself, thanks.”

I reached for some scrambled eggs, a slice of toast, and a handful of fresh berries

Killian watched me with a smirk. Berries and toast? Really? That’s all you’re having? Not even a pancake?”

Shut up and eat quietly,I snapped, feeling my cheeks heat

He chuckled but didn’t press further, thankfully. The rest of breakfast passed in relative peace, though I could feel Killian’s gaze on me more often than not

After breakfast, I retreated to my room. It was time to put my plan into motion. This time, I wouldn’t let Killian or anyone else stop me. I grabbed my bag, checked to make sure I had everything I needed, and slipped out of the packhouse through the back door

The yard was quiet, and I kept low, avoiding any of the patrols that might be out. Once I was past the main gate, I felt a small sense of relief. Now, all I had to do was find a cab to take me to the eastern border

I walked for a while before spotting an empty cab approaching. Waving it down, I quickly explained to the driver where I wanted to gothe edge of the pack’s territory near the willow tree. He gave me a puzzled look but nodded and motioned for me to get in

The drive was uneventful, though I had to guide the driver through the unfamiliar parts of the territory. Finally

the large willow tree came into view, its branches swaying gently in the breeze. I paid the driver and stepped out, my heart pounding in anticipation

As I walked toward the witch’s house, the sound of a car engine grew louder behind me. My stomach dropped. I turned, and sure enough, Killian’s car was speeding toward me

He parked abruptly, got out, and slammed the door shut. His face was a mix of anger and concern as he strode toward me

So, this is where you wanted to go since last night, right, Mira?he said, his voice tight

I glared at him, my frustration bubbling over. Killian, you can’t keep following me! What are you even doing

here?”

I should be asking you the same thing,he shot back. Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to wander off alone like this? Especially to see a witch?”

My jaw tightened. How do you even know about the witch?”

He crossed his arms, his gaze steady. Your dad told me about her. She is the one who helped us find you when Aaron kidnapped you.”

I froze, his words sinking in. Shehelped you find me?”

Killian nodded, his tone softening. Yes. She has helped us to bring you back home safely. She was the one who gave me the sacred dagger with which I had stabbed Aaron, Mira. She’s a good woman, and without her, we might not have found you in time.”

I looked away, my emotions swirling. I hadn’t expected this. Even so,” I said quietly, this is something I need to do on my own. I don’t want to involve you, Killian.”

He stepped closer, his voice firm. And I’m telling you I’m not letting you do this alone. Whatever you’re dealing with, you don’t have to face it by yourself.”

I shook my head, frustration and gratitude warring within me. I appreciate you watching out for me, but this isn’t your problem. Please, just go back to the packhouse.”

Killian’s expression hardened. No. I’m not going anywhere. If you’re going to see the witch, I’m coming with

you.”

I stared at him, my chest tightening. Why are you so stubborn?”

He gave me a small, infuriating smirk. Because someone has to be. Now, let’s go before you change your

mind.”

I sighed, realizing there was no point in arguing. Killian wasn’t going to back down, and part of me was relieved I wouldn’t have to face the witch alone

Fine,I muttered, turning back toward the willow tree. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Killian followed beside me, his presence both comforting and annoying. As we approached the witch’s house, a sense of unease settled over me. I didn’t know what to expect, but with Killian by my side, I felt a little

braver
