Chapter 18
_Mira’s POV_
The next morning, I woke up with a shiver still clinging to me from the nightmare. The memory of the man and woman’s faces stayed sharp in my mind, and the blood–so much blood. I couldn’t forget it. It was as if the blood had stained my own skin, and
no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the feeling of it.
I stepped into the shower and let the water pour over me, hoping that it would wash away the lingering sense of dread. I scrubbed my arms, my shoulders, my neck–over and over–as if somehow, I could get rid of the memory that haunted me. But even as I stepped out of the shower, the woman’s voice still whispered in my mind. “Run…hide yourself.” Who was she? And why did it feel like her words were meant just for me?
After I dressed, I went downstairs, feeling drained and tense. When I reached the dining room, I saw Aaron already at the table. His face lit up when he saw me, and he
waved me over to sit beside him.
“Morning, Mira,” he said with a warm smile. “Come, sit here.”
Jason, his Beta, and Lucian, his Gamma, were also at the table. They looked up,
surprised, as Aaron asked me what I wanted to eat. He even got up to serve me
himself, which seemed to surprise them even more. I wasn’t used to this kind of treatment either. He was the Alpha of this pack, and I was just a rogue he had rescued. I couldn’t help but wonder about his intentions sometimes. But if he really
wanted to harm me, wouldn’t he have done it by now?
“I made sure the cooks left a little of everything,” he said with a grin, setting down a plate in front of me. “Here–try the scrambled eggs and some of this toast. And there’s fruit and a muffin, just in case you’re still hungry.”
I smiled shyly. “Thank you, Aaron.”
Jason raised an eyebrow. “She has got the royal treatment this morning,” he teased,
nudging Lucian. “Alpha never brought me breakfast like that.”
Aaron just rolled his eyes. “That’s because you eat everything in sight, Jason. There would be nothing left for the rest of us.”

Lucian laughed, biting into his own piece of toast. “He has got a point, Jason. You
would probably eat the whole packhouse if they would let you.”
Jason threw his hands up, grinning. “What can I say? I have got an appetite.”
Aaron laughed along with them, even though he was Alpha. It was clear they were
close friends, which made me feel a bit more at ease. Still, I kept quiet as I ate,
listening to their banter. I hadn’t felt this comfortable in a long time, yet the strange dream from last night still weighed on me.
After we finished breakfast, Aaron turned to his Beta and Gamma. “All right, we’ve got
a few things to take care of today. Jason, I want you to check the southern border
and make sure security is tight. Lucian, you’re on patrol duty for the western side. I’ve
got a meeting with the elders later, so I need both of you to handle this.”
Jason nodded. “Got it, Alpha.”
Lucian stood, giving Aaron a playful salute. “We’ll take care of it, boss. You can count
on us.”
Once they left, Aaron turned his attention back to me. His eyes softened, and he
leaned in closer, studying my face. “Mira, you have been really quiet this morning. Is
everything okay? I can tell something is bothering you.”
I took a deep breath, feeling my heart quicken. It was like he could see right through
- me. “I… I had a strange dream last night. It felt so real.” My voice shook a little, and I
couldn’t meet his gaze. “I saw… I saw a man and a woman. They were hurt, and there
was so much blood. The woman kept saying… she called me ‘baby‘ and told me to
run. I don’t understand why.”
Aaron’s face grew serious. “Did you recognize them?”
I nodded slowly. “Yes… I think I did. I saw their faces in a portrait here, in the
packhouse.”
He frowned, tilting his head. “Which portrait?”
I hesitated. “I… I could show you.”
He reached out and took my hand, his touch warm and reassuring. “Let’s go, then.”
We walked through the halls of the packhouse, and I led him to the room where I had

seen the portrait. My heart was pounding as I stopped in front of it and pointed to the
man and woman in the picture. “It was them. They were the ones I saw in my dream.”
Aaron stood quietly for a long time, just looking at the portrait. Finally, he sighed. ”
Mira… these are my great–grandparents. They passed away a long time ago.”
I swallowed, the unease still lingering in my chest. “But why would I dream about
them? I never knew them. I’ve never even met them.”
He gave me a small, comforting smile. “Dreams are strange, Mira. Sometimes, we
dream about things we see during the day. Maybe your mind was just… holding onto
this image, and that’s why you saw them.”
bit my lip, unsure. “Maybe. I just… I can’t shake the feeling that it meant something.
It felt so real, Aaron.”
He gently squeezed my hand, his gaze soft and reassuring. “Hey, it’s okay. You’re safe
here. Maybe it was just a coincidence. You don’t have to worry.”
I wanted to believe him, to let his words calm me. But something inside me couldn’t
let go of the haunting feeling.
