Chapter 14
_Killian’s POV_
Back home, I headed straight to my room and stepped into a cold shower, hoping it would help calm the storm inside me. The shock of the icy water hit my skin, but it did nothing to ease the anger boiling inside me. I felt betrayed and humiliated. Sophia had lied to me, and now, I was trapped. I couldn’t expose her, couldn’t break the
engagement without shaming my family, and that made the rage harder to bear.
After getting dressed, I decided that I needed some fresh air. As I opened my door and stepped out, I nearly ran into my father in the hallway. He looked cheerful and his
face lit up with excitement.
“Killian!” he exclaimed while clapping a hand on my shoulder. “I was just thinking about your big day and all the preparations. We are going to make this the grandest
wedding our pack has ever seen.”
I forced a smile and tried to appear interested. “Sounds great, Dad.”
He chuckled, his eyes bright with pride. “Your mother is already talking about taking Sophia shopping for her wedding dress soon. She says it’s a tradition for the bride
and her future mother–in–law to pick out the dress together.”
I nodded, pretending to be happy about it. “I am sure they’ll have a great time.”
“And don’t think for a second that you are allowed to sneak a peek at the dress before
the wedding,” he teased, wagging his finger. “It’s bad luck, you know.”
I managed a small laugh, though inside, I felt hollow. The thought of the wedding, of standing beside Sophia and making vows I didn’t believe in, felt like a weight pressing down on my chest. How could I go through with this?
“Your mother and I were just reminiscing about our wedding,” he continued, a fond
smile on his face. “She was so nervous that day, kept tripping over her own feet. And then, just as she was about to walk down the aisle, she realized she forgot her bouquet. I had to wait another twenty minutes for her to go find it!”
I tried to laugh along with him, but my mind was somewhere else, drifting to thoughts
of Mira, I wondered where she was, if she was safe, if she was happy. My chest

tightened at the thought. I had chosen Sophia over her, and now… now I was paying
the price for it.
“You okay, son?” my father asked, his smile fading as he looked at me with concern.
I quickly forced another smile. “Yeah, Dad. Just… a little overwhelmed, I guess. It’s a
lot to take in.”
He nodded, his expression softening. “I know, Killian. But you’re going to be an incredible Alpha. And with Sophia by your side, you’ll be even stronger.”
I swallowed hard, trying to hide the bitterness that rose in my throat. He had no idea
who Sophia really was, how she was using me. And I couldn’t tell him. I couldn’t tell
anyone.
“Thanks, Dad,” I said quietly, looking down at the floor.
He patted my shoulder again, giving me a warm smile. “Just remember, this is your
moment. Don’t let anything distract you from what is truly important.”
I nodded, even though my thoughts were a million miles away. As my father walked
away, I felt a pang of guilt. I was lying to him, to everyone. I was putting on a show,
pretending that everything was perfect, when in reality, everything was falling apart.
After he left, I slipped outside and headed toward the woods. I needed a moment
alone, a chance to clear my head. The cool evening air brushed against my face, and I
closed my eyes, taking a deep breath, Leo, my wolf, stirred within me, restless and
angry.
“Why didn’t we fight harder for her?” he asked, his voice filled with pain. “Why did we let Mira go?”
I clenched my fists, the guilt heavy in my chest. “I thought I was doing the right thing,
Leo. I thought Sophia was who I was meant to be with.”
“But she’s not our mate,” he growled. “Mira is.”
I felt a pang in my heart, the memories of Mira flooding my mind. Her smile, her
laughter, the way she looked at me like I was her whole world. I had thrown all of that
away for the wrong reasons.
“She is gone now,” I said quietly. “And it’s my fault.”

Leo was silent for a moment, and I could feel his sadness. “We need to find her,
Killian. She is still out there. I can feel it.”

“But what if it’s too late?” I whispered, the words barely audible. “What if she hates
me now?”
“Then we’ll make it right,” he replied, his voice firm. “We owe her that much.”
A part of me wanted to believe him, to think that there was still a chance to find her,
to make things right. But another part of me knew the reality. I had hurt Mira in ways
that couldn’t be undone. And now, I was bound to Sophia, to a future built on lies.
I stayed in the woods until the sky grew dark, the weight of my choices pressing
down on me.
