Chapter 13
_Killian’s POV_
The day after the engagement party, I woke up early. I could feel the happiness from
last night still lingering in my chest. I kept thinking about Sophia, her smile, and the
way she looked at me. She was my fiancée now, and soon she would be my wife. I
wanted to surprise her with a special date, something she would enjoy. I thought
about taking her to a nice restaurant and then maybe going to the mall since she
loved shopping. It was my goal to make her happy.
With a plan in mind, I got dressed and made my way to Sophia’s house. When I
arrived, I noticed the front door wasn’t locked, so I slipped inside, figuring that she
must be expecting me. The house was quiet, and I didn’t see her downstairs. As I
moved further in, I heard a faint voice coming from upstairs. Curious, I followed the
sound up to her room, and the closer I got, the more I could make out what she was
saying.
“… don’t worry, I’ll get the job done, and no one will suspect anything. Killian is a fool.
He will never know the truth.”
I froze outside her door, my heart pounding. What was she talking about? My
stomach twisted as I listened, hardly able to believe what I was hearing.
“He actually thinks I love him,” Sophia continued, laughing softly. “But this is just a
means to an end. I am marrying him for the money and status. That i***t has no clue.”
I felt my blood run cold. Everything inside me tightened, and I could barely breathe.
Sophia… my Sophia… she was just using me? I felt like a fool. Here I was, planning our
future, thinking she was the one I was meant to be with. And all along, she was lying.
“I’ll handle everything here,” she said, her voice filled with confidence. “Once we’re married, our plan will fall perfectly into place.”
Who was she talking to? Who was part of this “plan” she kept mentioning? I pressed
my hand against the wall, trying to steady myself. Rage started to build inside me. I had rejected Mira, my true mate, for her. I had gone against my family, my pack, all because I thought Sophia was the one who truly loved me. Now I realized just how wrong I had been./

But what could I do now? We were engaged. Everyone in the pack knew. Breaking
things off would be humiliating. My reputation as the future Alpha would be
shattered, and I would be seen as weak and foolish. I couldn’t just walk away from
Sophia, no matter how much it hurt to know the truth.
My wolf, Leo, stirred in my mind, restless and angry. He wanted to tear Sophia apart
for what she had done, but I pushed him back. I couldn’t let my anger show. Not yet.
There was too much at stake.
Just then, the door opened, and Sophia stepped out of her room, looking surprised to
see me standing there. I quickly forced a smile, keeping my emotions hidden. She couldn’t know that I had overheard everything.
“Killian!” she said, putting on a smile. “What are you doing here?”
I swallowed down my anger and kept my voice calm. “I was missing you, so I thought
I would come by and see if you wanted to go out. Maybe grab something to eat?”
Sophia’s eyes sparkled as she relaxed, clearly not suspecting that I had heard her
conversation. “Oh, that sounds great!” she said, her tone cheerful. “Give me a minute;
I will just change.”
“Take your time,” I replied, smiling, even though every part of me wanted to scream. I
watched her disappear back into her room, and as soon as the door closed, I
clenched my fists, barely holding back the rage burning inside me.
She was the reason I had lost Mira. The only woman who was truly meant for me, the
one who could understand me on a level Sophia never could. But Mira was gone now,
and it was my fault. I had hurt her in front of the entire pack, and now I had nothing
left except this betrayal. And yet… I couldn’t let Sophia know that I knew the truth.
When she came back out, dressed and ready, she slipped her arm around mine,
smiling up at me like nothing was wrong. I forced myself to act normal, leading her to
the car and driving us to the restaurant. The entire way there, she kept chatting about
the wedding, about decorations, guest lists, and dresses. I nodded, pretending to be
interested, but all I could think about was the lies hidden behind her smile.
At the restaurant, we sat across from each other, and I found it harder to keep up the
act. I could barely look at her without feeling sick. Still, I tried to stay calm, not
wanting to let my true feelings slip.

“So,” Sophia said, reaching across the table to take my hand. “Have you thought
about the honeymoon? I was thinking somewhere exotic, maybe a private island.”
“Yeah, that sounds… perfect,” I said, my voice strained as I forced a smile. The irony of
it all was bitter. Here she was, planning a honeymoon, when just moments ago, she had been plotting against me.
As the meal went on, she kept talking. She was oblivious to the anger simmering
inside me. She didn’t notice how stiffly I was responding, how distant I felt. She just
continued, planning her fantasy life with me, all while hiding her real intentions.
But I had to keep my emotions in check. No matter how much I wanted to confront
her, to make her pay for what she had done, I couldn’t risk it. If I exposed her now, it
would ruin everything I had worked for, everything I had sacrificed.
When the meal ended, I paid the bill, and we headed out. Sophia slipped her arm
around mine, leaning her head against my shoulder as we walked back to the car.
“This was a perfect day, Killian,” she said softly. “I can’t wait for our future together.”
I looked down at her, feeling nothing but bitterness. She didn’t know how much I
despised her, how close I was to walking away. But I just forced another smile,
nodding as if I believed her words.
“Yeah… me too.”
As I drove her home, my mind raced with thoughts of Mira. I wondered where she
was, if she was safe, if she was still out there somewhere. Leo stirred again, his
presence like a faint reminder of the bond I had shattered. He kept telling me that she
was still alive, that there was still hope.
But I had already ruined everything. I had caused Mira so much pain, and there was no way to make it right now. I would carry this regret, this bitterness, for the rest of my life. And maybe… maybe that was what I deserved.
We pulled up to Sophia’s house, and she leaned over to kiss me. I let her, even though every part of me screamed to pull away.
“Goodbye, Killian,” she whispered, smiling sweetly. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Goodbye,” I replied, my voice hollow.

As she went inside, I stayed in the car, gripping the steering wheel tightly. The rage, the regret, it all weighed heavily on me. I had no one to blame but myself. I had
chosen Sophia over my true mate, and now… now I was trapped in a lie I could never
escape.
And as I drove away, the hollow ache in my chest told me that, no matter what happened, I would never truly be whole again.
