Chapter Fifty One
Celeste’s POV
“Thank you for your blessing, Celeste.” Vanessa said in that sickly sweet tone of hers. “The four of us will live happily without you skulking around.”
Grace gritted her teeth. “You are the most shameless, two–faced snake ever to crawl the earth.”
“Don’t speak bad to my Mommy!” Bonnie yelled.
Grace blinked in shock. When she recovered, she squatted down to her level.
“Bonnie, your real Mommy is a good person who loves you more than anything in the world. Chasing her away is a big mistake.”
The girl huffed. “No, she’s not! She’s boring and strict and never gives me what I want.”
“Candy is yummy until your teeth rot. Takeout is great until you’re in the hospital with food poisoning.” Grace smiled gently, but her tone was firm. “Has Mommy ever forgotten you at school or made you sick? Think about it, love.”
Bonnie’s light brows furrowed as she considered her words.
A wisp of hope unfurled in my chest. What if she could get through to her and I wouldn’t be forced to turn my back on my only daughter?
“I won’t change my mind.” Bonnie glared at me. “She is a bad mom.”
And just like that, my foolish hope was crushed.
Vanessa smirked. “What a good girl! You can’t let these bad women make you forget-”
I blocked her out as the flimsy wall holding back my emotions wore thin. I tugged on my friend’s sleeve. She held up a hand, cutting Vanessa off mid–sentence, to turn her full attention on me.
“What is it, Celeste?” She asked.
“Please continue our discussion with Brian about the potential studio investment without me.” I whispered in her ear. “I need to get out of here before I lose my composure.”
She nodded and squeezed me into a tight hug.
“Go take care of yourself, love.”
Their argument picked right up as soon as I turned and strode for the exit. Someone grabbed my arm, and I spun around from the momentum.
Who else would have the cheek besides Damien?
“For fuck’s sake.” I hissed low enough so only he’d hear. “If you grab me one more time, I swear I’ll slap you into next week.”
I violently threw his hand off and my heels clacked loudly as I stormed outside.
Only a few reporters still lingered just passed the entrance, and many of their cameras were pointing my way. I turned my back to them only to come face to face with the dreaded Damien.
“Celeste, we’re not done talking.” He said sternly.

“Actually, we are. You and Vanessa finally kicked me out of the picture, so please, for the love of all that is good, just leave me the hell alone.” I spoke with a biting edge.
“What makes you think this is what I wanted?” He glowered at me. “Severing ties with Bonnie is completely irresponsible and I would never have encouraged it. You need to get back in there and fix this.”
“Fix this?” I laughed bitterly. “Damien, this mess is all your fault. By cheating with Vanessa, you turned Bonnie into the worst parts of the both of you. Can’t you see that?‘
He sighed and massaged his temples.
“I’ll admit Vanessa blinded me to the truth. But I can see now that you were the better wife and mother. You’ll
don’t even make a better employee than her.” He held my hands in his. “If we get back together, I’ll ensure you face the same mistreatment.”
I scoffed bitterly. “Oh, I’m sure you’ll find news ways to torture me.”
I ripped my hands free and dug my phone out of my purse. This night had been a rollercoaster of emotions, and I needed to process everything at home.
“I’m in the middle of speaking.” Damien seethed.
I flinched when he swiped the device from my hands and held it out of reach..
“Give it back!” I yelled as he started scrolling. “That’s an invasion of my privacy!”
“I want to see what was so important you’d take out your phone while I’m speaking.”
“Not that it’s any of your damn business, but I was calling a cab.” I spat.
He chuckled. “That lowlife you’re with doesn’t even have a car to pick you up?”
“Stop being childish and give me my phone.”
Damien stopped scrolling and folded his arms over his chest.
“I can give you a better life and make your career take off.” His gaze was hard. “But Ryan will just drag you down- he’s a poor nobody.”
“Ryan is superior to you in every way that counts.” I said, an icy smirk curling my lips. “Especially in bed.”
Damien’s face turned ashen.
“My phone.” I held out an open palm.
The sound of a smooth engine gliding to a stop behind me drew my attention. I turned to watch the door to a sleek sports car open and my jaw hit the pavement as the driver stepped out.
He reached for me, his jade green eyes full of concern.
“Get in, Celeste.” Ryan spoke gently. “It looks like the party’s over.”
