Celeste’s POV
“Damien, leaving you was the worst mistake of my life.” I said, voice trembling as I walked towards him. “I’ll do anything for you to take me back.”
“I knew it was only a matter of time.” He smiled from ear to ear.
I batted my eyes at him. “Life is empty without you. Please let me come back home.”
His smirk exuded arrogance. “Lucky for you, I’m feeling generous.”
“Really? Oh my god, thank you Damien!” I squealed like a teenage girl. “It’s such an honor to be worthy of you.”
Muffled snickers came from outside the door as his staff eavesdropped. His brows furrowed as I burst into derisive laughter and plopped myself into the seat across from him.
“Is that what you expected to hear? You seriously need a psych evaluation.” I simmered down, tone sleeping with ridicule. “You can’t separate fantasy from reality.”
“Don’t mock me, Celeste. I’ve missed you during our time apart and I’ve been considering letting you come back home.” Damien leaned on the desk between us.
“I’ve never met a more shameless man.” My lip curled in disgust. “You’ll let me come back? That’s the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard.”
His hands formed fists.
“Don’t be a fool. I’m offering you a second chance–be grateful.”
I scoffed. “You’re offering? No, Damien, you’re begging and frankly, it’s pathetic.”
He stood abruptly and stormed towards me. I flinched as he slammed his hands on the armrests of my chair- boxing me in.
“Damien Kent doesn’t beg, period.” He snarled. “Watch that mouth of yours or you won’t like the consequences.” I should have heeded the lunatic’s warning.
Instead, I spat vehemently. “It doesn’t matter if you beg. Even if you were the last man on earth, I’d never take back a narcissistic asshole like you.”
His face twisted into an ugly sneer, and I knew I’d messed up. Big time. I looked around for a means of escape. If I called the security guards, would they help? Doubtful..
I cried out as Damien grabbed my jaw and twisted my head, exposing my neck
“Why is there a bloody hickey on your neck?”
“It’s none of your damn business, so back off.” I hissed, pushing at his hands.
He released me roughly and stood back.
“It’s that broke loser, Ryan, isn’t it?” He sneered. “I thought you had standards.”
Istood, glaring at him. “All the money in the world couldn’t make you half as decent a man as Ryan.” “Think about Bonnie.” Desperation crept into his tone. “Don’t you want to be a happy family again?”

Chapter Forty
I’m ashamed to admit I was tempted.
Timagined reading Bonnie bedtime stories, waking her up with kisses, and playing with her after breakfast. But I couldn’t sacrifice my happiness to have her back.
Damien saw my momentary hesitation and went in for the kill.
“Celeste, it’ll be just the three of us.” He cupped my face and forced me to look up at him.
I shoved him away, repulsed. “Your math’s off. It’s five with Vanessa and your baby.”
He shrugged. “I’ll get rid of Vanessa–pay her off or force her to get an abortion.”
My hand flew. Damien’s head flung back as an angry handprint formed across his cheek.
“Do you think the world is your playground? You got the woman pregnant, so take some god damn responsibility for once in your life!” I shouted, burning with rage.
“I took responsibility when I got you pregnant, so don’t talk shit, Celeste.” He said icily.
I laughed at the maniac.
“You married me in court, made me wait five years for a wedding, then fucked my best friend hours before the ceremony.” I shook my head in disbelief. “And if you were doing such a bang–up job with Bonnie, why did Lily need to call me two days in a row?”
“Who’s Lily?” He asked, confused.
I itched to slap his other cheek.
“You moved Bonnie to a new school without informing me, and I still know her teacher’s name before you?” I gritted my teeth. “Vanessa was right. You’ve lost interest in Bonnie since she fell pregnant.”
“Don’t make crap up. Vanessa wouldn’t say that.” He scoffed. “Besides, I just found out about that damn baby.”
“Then why haven’t you fetched Bonnie from school for the past four days?”
Damien sighed, irritated. “That’s Vanessa’s responsibility. I’m too busy with work.”
“It can’t take all day to tweak and reproduce other jewelers‘ designs.” I snapped as his design room came to mind. “You should make time to fetch Bonnie even if your company is facing layoffs.”
The vein in his forehead bulged.
“Don’t throw stones when you’re slumming it with that peasant.
His ego was pathetically fragile.
“You better pick Bonnie up from preschool on Monday.” I demanded, voice steely.
“I told you, that’s Vanessa’s problem. I have meetings with the shareholders I can’t miss.”
My jaws clenched. “Damien, just give me custody so our daughter can stop being neglected.”
“The only way you’re getting to Bonnie is if you move back in with me.” He spat.
I crossed my arms. “Not in your wildest dreams.”
Damien’s fists clenched. He pressed a button on his desk, and his office door opened.
“Miss Wilson, bring in security.”

“You can’t throw me out to avoid this conversation.” I seethed. “You’re not taking proper care of Bonnie, but I will.”
“You’re not better than me, Celeste.” He said coldly. “No one is.”
“Please put your ego aside for the sake of our daughter.”
The security guards rushed in and Damien sneered at me.
“Throw out this woman.”
