The sound of my boots echoed through the hallway as I stormed down, my pulse hammering in my ears, my fists clenched with a fury I hadn’t known I was capable of. The day felt like it was closing in on me, suffocating me with its mockery.
“1
I banged the door open. “Where the hell is Kaiden?” I demanded, my voice sharp and commanding, slicing through the room’s chatter like a blade.
Everyone–Thor, Jackson, Ian–stopped whatever they were doing and looked up at me, wide–eyed.
“Come on, step–cousin sister.” lan stood up from the couch, placing his comic book down on the table with an easy, almost lazy grin. “It’s the Four of Hearts‘ personal room. Show some respect.”
“Where is Kaiden, Ian?” I ground out, my jaw clenched so tightly I could feel it ache.
Ian tilted his head, amused, his gaze taunting.
“Woh… Cool down, Lucy.” Jackson stepped forward, concern etched on his face as he glanced between lan and me. “What happened?”
“Come on, Jackie. You really don’t know?” Ian looked at Jackson with a smirk, raising an eyebrow as if he was amused by some inside joke. “Seriously…” He sighed with exaggerated disappointment, rolling his eyes. “You should stop studying so hard. I know being the principal’s son puts a lot of pressure on you, but at least keep tabs on your buddies.”
Jackson’s eyes narrowed, brows knitted in confusion. “Wha… what happened? Did Kaiden do something foolish again?” he asked, his voice laced with genuine worry.
“No, he didn’t. At least, that’s what I believe.” Ian shrugged.
“Then what happened? Why is Lucy being so hyper?” Jackson asked, glancing back at me.
Ian chuckled, clearly enjoying the moment. “Nothing. It’s just that my cousin gave a cute little surprise to my step–cousin sister.” He smirked, his eyes dancing with mischief as he looked me over with mock sympathy. “But I guess…” He leaned in, inspecting my expression with narrowed eyes before adding, “Our baby sister didn’t like it.”
“Kaiden did what?” Jackson shot Ian an exasperated look. “Can you please stop playing with your words?”
“He made fun of me in front of the whole school,” I snapped, feeling my cheeks flush as the frustration boiled over.
“That’s interesting.” Thor, lounging casually against the book rack with a bag of chips in hand, raised an eyebrow. He leaned back, his posture relaxed, as if he was watching a movie rather than a tense situation unfold. With a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, he popped a chip into his mouth, crunching it loudly. His voice, muffled by the bite, dripped with amusement as he asked, “What did he do to make it funny?” His eyes gleamed with curiosity, clearly more entertained by the unfolding drama than concerned for anyone involved.
I let out a frustrated sigh, my fingers tightening around the strap of my bag. “Why do I even bother?” I muttered, shaking my head. I turned to Jackson, the only person in the room who seemed remotely sane. “Where is Kaiden? Do you have any idea?” I asked, exasperation clear in my tone.
Jackson looked at me thoughtfully, his mouth pressed in a tight line as he processed my question. “I… I don’t k. finally, shaking his head. “He was right here a few moments ago, but then he left.”
he said
Ian’s eyes glinted with a sly amusement as he held up his phone. “He saw this and left,” he said, a grin spreading across his
face.
Narrowing my eyes, I focused on the screen in his hand. “What the heck!”
It was a post from Queen Bee, titled, “Rubina Johns shows middle finger to Lucy Hailstone–oops! Sorry, my bad, Lucy Sterwalt. Click the link for a detailed narration of the scene.”

Chapter 16
I clicked the link, and–holy havoc Queen Bee had documented every single detail of the chaos that happened earlier, recounting it like a scene from a novel.
Damn! I can’t even decide if I should hate her for invading my privacy yet again or admire her for writing such a long article so quickly, with zero grammatical or spelling errors.
“Fuck!” Jackson cursed under his breath, making my jaw drop slightly. It was rare to even imagine him cursing like that–the was usually the epitome of discipline.
“What happened?” lan asked, the smirk fading from his face as he picked up on the gravity in Jackson’s tone.
Jackson ran a hand through his hair, looking worried. “This is not good. I think I know where he went,” he said, his expression tightening with anxiety. “I just hope I’m wrong”
“Where?” I demanded, grabbing his arm, desperation in my voice.
“To Rubina,” Jackson replied, his voice low and tense. “He might be warning her right now.”
“Damn!” lan said, his expression shifting from amusement to a mixture of concern and admiration. “Yeah, and I hope he’s just warning her, because trust me, sister–warning is the most decent thing he does when it comes to his family? Without thinking, I ran, looking for Rubina. What lan said made sense. Kaiden had been downright scary when he warned Mom after she slapped me. Kaiden had always respected my mom, but if he could do that to her, then he might do even worse to Rubina–and she doesn’t deserve it. Honestly, the way she didn’t care that I was Kaiden’s sister and still yelled at me only made me respect her more. It showed how pure she was, how unbiased and fair she could be, and what an amazing person she was. She was just like the heroine of a movie–righteous, fearless, kickass.
“I’m done. I’m leaving this fucking school.” Rubina’s previous words echoed in my mind.
She’s leaving this school. Where would someone leaving go? Step 1: Principal’s office to get the transfer certificate. Step 2- The school gate. Step 3: Home.
I went to the principal’s office and found out that she had just taken her transfer certificate and left, so I ran–again–to the gate.
As I reached it, I slowed down, seeing both Rubina and Kaiden standing there. I paused to catch my breath, hands on my knees, huffing and puffing from all the running.
That’s when I saw Kaiden snatch a paper from Rubina’s hand. He read it with a smug smirk, which quickly hardened into a deadly glare. Without hesitation, he tore the paper into pieces and threw them into the air, letting the scraps fall like confetti.
This isn’t good. I need to get there before he does something to hurt Rubina.
I was on my way as Rubina looked at the scattered pieces of torn papers that had fallen on the ground, her eyes red with fury. “How dare you?” she said through clenched teeth, her gaze still fixed on the paper fragments. She then looked up, and maybe she saw his smug smirk–because that’s the only thing that could have triggered her to raise her hand to slap him. I almost thought that, before I reached them, the sound of Kaiden getting slapped by Rubina would greet me, but disappointment struck when Kaiden caught her arm.
“Don’t. Even. Dare.” I was almost there when he warned her and then jerked her hand away. When he turned a there, right in front of him, blocking his path.
1, I was
I glanced over at Rubina, her face streaked with fresh tears, her arm bearing the unmistakable mark of his fingers—a bruise that fueled a surge of rage within me, daring me to act. The sight of it sent my anger flaring to a dangerous level, a heat rising so swiftly I barely registered my own movements.
Without a second thought, I raised my hand, my vision blurring with fury, and let it fly. The slap landed squarely on his cheek, the sound cracking through the crowd like a whip. Instantly, everyone around us froze, shocked silence rippling outward from where we stood.

At first I thought why did I feel I had any right to slap Kaiden for misbehaving with Rubina? I’m not his mother. But then, after a few seconds, I realized that I didn’t slap him for that. I slapped him for everything he’d done to me, directly and indirectly, all of it All the frustration and anger I had bottled up since the day I met him–it erupted like a volcano in the form of that slap
Maybe I was foolish, reckless even, for slapping him. But deep down, I hoped it would make him finally understand just how hervely I take it when comes to my identity–the very identity he once erased in subtle, indirect ways, and now, without a hint of shame, is trying to strip away openly and deliberately,
Everyone around us looked shocked at first, but just a second later, they seemed ready to jump in and make me pay for what I’d done, Some even stepped closer, fists clenched in anger. But Kaiden raised his hand, stopping them all. Slowly, he touched his cheek where my slap had landed, almost savouring the sting. Then, he smirked–a look that sent a chill down my spine.
Is he out of his mind?
“First, you dare to command me, and now you dare to slap me.” He said. “I must say, I’m impressed. I adore your audacity… though I worry for it as well.” He gestured at the people around us, their faces angry, furious. It was as if they were zombies, and I was the last human alive inside an invisible barrier they were just waiting to have removed so they could feast on me mercilessly.
A gulp of fear rolled down my throat. Maybe it’s not him who’s insane–it’s me. I must be crazy for hitting him like this, especially in front of the public, who adores him like a cute little prince.
Kaiden then came closer to me, leaned in, and whispered in my ear, his voice low and threatening. “Don’t worry about them,” he murmured. “They won’t even lay a finger on you–not in my presence.” With a twisted smile, he leaned in further, whispering, “But you should be afraid of me, Introvert. Lock your door and windows tonight. Because if I get my hands on you, I will fuck you until you go senseless.”
To be continued….
