Ethan grabbed Sophia and pulled her to his side. His eyes were cold as ice, but Sophía broke free from his grasp.
Seeing his tense expression, the broker quickly stepped forward to explain. “Sir, you’ve misunderstood. I’m a real estate broker.”
Ethan frowned at Sophia. “You’re selling property?”
Instead of answering, Sophia first asked the broker to leave, saying they would be in touch later.
Seeing her treat him like a stranger, Ethan grabbed her hand with displeasure.
“Babe, which property are you selling?”
Sophia replied flatly, “You misunderstood. I just find this space too small and want a bigger studio.”
Ethan immediately relaxed, but then thought of Veronica. He looked at Sophia cautiously.
“Babe, aren’t you going to ask about what happened the other day?”
When she didn’t react, Ethan continued casually, “That girl is Jason’s sister. He’s out of town and asked me to look after her. You know Jason and I are close–I couldn’t just stand by when his sister was in trouble. I-”
Sophia picked up her bag. “I have things to do. We can talk when I get back.”
She left without listening to the rest, turning and walking out the door.
Ethan watched her retreating figure with a distant look.
Sophia’s complete trust in him was exactly what he wanted, yet somehow it left him feeling uncomfortable.
Ethan didn’t mention his business trip again. Veronica was discharged from the hospital and returned to the home she shared
with Ethan.
As he was about to leave, she ran to him and embraced him.
“Be good, Veronica. We agreed I wouldn’t stay overnight,” Ethan said.
Veronica ignored his words and took his hand, guiding it toward her undergarments.
With a seductive smile, she stood on tiptoe and breathed hotly into his ear.
“Ethan, I bought new pills. Don’t you want to try them?”
Ethan’s eyes gradually clouded with desire. He couldn’t resist Veronica when she tempted him like this.
The two engaged in a passionate encounter throughout their love nest, with Ethan’s sweat marking every corner.
Veronica watched with satisfaction as Ethan moved wildly above her.

Chapter 5
While he slept afterward, she sent videos of their encounter to Sophia.
When Ethan woke up, realizing he had spent the night away from home, he anxiously ran his fingers through his hair.
He thought of several excuses and settled on the most reasonable explanation before calling Sophia.
But after his lengthy explanation, Sophia only replied with two words: “I understand
Ethan had imagined her disappointed expression and prepared a litany of sweet words to comfort her, but he never expected Sophia to be so calm.
With a dark expression, Ethan composed a long text message.
When Sophia emerged from her shower, she saw Ethan’s lengthy message.
She merely glanced at it before deleting it.
She was no longer interested in Ethan’s carefully crafted lies.
On Sophia’s birthday, Ethan had countless Ecuadorian roses arranged throughout her celebration venue.
Their mutual friends surrounded Sophia, asking questions.
“Sophia, Ethan really treats you well! Look at this–from the decorations down to the tablecloth color, everything is exactly how you like it!”
“Of course! Ethan’s whole heart belongs to our Sophia. Remember how even if someone just chatted with Sophia, Ethan would be jealous for a week.”
“Exactly! Remember when that senior kept asking for Sophia’s number? Ethan hit him so hard with a basketball that the guy had a concussion and was in bed for a week!”
Throughout it all, Sophia maintained her smile.
These memories–their friends remembered them, and so did Sophia.
After Ethan’s “death“, these memories had sustained her. But now, each recollection was like broken glass piercing her chest, making every breath painful.
