Seth was momentarily at a loss for words because of what I said. He did care
deeply about Sarah’s feelings, even going so far as to prepare candy when she
took her medicine. But wasn’t he atoning for my sins? Wasn’t it all for my own
good? Yet I’d embarrassed him.
He glanced at Kevin, his irritation only growing. And it was in front of his
nemesis!
“Bella, I was doing this for your own good. If you continue to be so stubborn.
and ungrateful, don’t call me brother anymore!*
He said this, expecting me to back down like I used to. Back then, whenever
he said something like that, I would immediately apologize and sweetly call him
brother to beg for his forgiveness.
But this time, I simply gave him a cursory glance.
“Okay, Mr. Miller.”
The three words hung in the air, light and airy.
Seth stood there, stunned. Then, a wave of anger surged through him! His
face darkened as he threatened, “If you keep acting up, I really won’t take care of
you anymore.”

Before I could respond, Kevin suddenly clapped his hands, a playful smirk
on his lips.
“If you don’t want her, I do. Sister, call me ‘brother‘,” he said, his tone lazy
and arrogant, infuriating.
I reacted quickly. “Brother.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Kevin’s deep eyes tinged with a hint of red,
making his smirk even more mischievous. He reached out, gently ruffling my
hair.
“Good girl.”
There was a hint of that brotherly affection in his
gesture.
Seth found it unbearable. He hadn’t expected me to defy him so blatantly,
calling another man “brother” in front of him! He felt his authority had been
seriously challenged; and his anger flared even more. With a grim face, he
snapped, “Do you still want your allowance?”
I scoffed. This was one of their usual tactic to force me into submission, but
my allowance had long been deducted due to their repeated apologies and
compensation to Sarah.
I replied calmly and coldly, “The Miller family hasn’t given me an allowance
in a long time.”

department transfer allowances to all of our accounts every month. How could
you not have any?
