Chapter 77
Nathan’s POV
Madison grumbled as she slipped her arms into the pink silk robe, tying it tightly at her waist, movements betraying her frustration
and anger.
“Everyone is worried about you, Nathan. The entire Ironjaw Pack! You need to handle this situation. You need to at least acknowledge reality.”
“How I handle matters is none of your concern, Madison!1 growled.
What I needed right now was for her to leave my room before my wolf completely lost control.
She stood and walked toward me.
“I will never understand you, Nathan! Look at me!” She spread her arms, again deliberately showcasing her body, though mostly covered by the robe this time. “I am a woman with perfect genes, from the noble Goldshore Pack. I have the bloodline and status to match yours–I am flawless Luna material for an Alpha!”
I knew what she was implying, and every muscle in my body tensed, my pine scent turning sharp as a blade.
“Watch your words, Madison.” My voice was low and dangerous.
But she continued pushing my boundaries. “Any child you have with me would be strong, pure–blooded Alpha heirs, exceptional in every way. You would never have to worry about my children having any… defects.”
She was insulting Rachel and our unborn child, which ignited a fury deep within me. My wolf was nearly breaking through my
human form.
“Shut up, Madison!” I said through clenched teeth, every muscle poised as if ready to attack.
“But with her–that pathetic breeder–who knows what you’d get? After all, you don’t really know her bloodline, do you, Nathan? What if she comes from a low–rank pack? Wild wolves? Nobodies? Who knows? Her family could all be commoners without status, country wolves, inbred-*
“MADISON!” My voice transformed into a roar, my eyes turning completely gold.
I raised my hand, Alpha fury nearly consuming me, but at the last moment, I stopped.
If I hurt her, I would have to deal with Raymond or worse political consequences; and I wasn’t in the mood to handle that..
But if she didn’t shut up, I feared my wolf would lose all control.
“Enough,” I growled, my voice low and pained. “Do you understand who you’re talking about?”
“Of course I do! I’m talking about your precious breeder, Nathan! I’m talking about the woman you’d choose over me! I’m trying to understand why you’d rather be with her than accept me!”
She pointed at herself, jabbing her chest with her finger, genuine anger and jealousy flashing in her eyes.
“Explain to me, great Alpha, how you could possibly prefer a breeders company to mine?”
I couldn’t explain it to her.

Chapter 77
“What’s wrong, Nathan?” Madison’s eyes welled with tears, but her ge remained sharp. “You won’t answer, will you? You use to talk about her because you’re afraid that if you do, then you’d have to admit…”
“Stop It, Madison.” I turned aw?
I could hear my knuckles crackings I clenched my fists.
I couldn’t even bear to look at her anymore. I wanted to grab her role by the collar and drag her out.
Calling Tyler or another warrior through the mind link to remove her before my wolf completely lost control was the only rational
choice.
“Fine, Nathan, Keep pretending. Keep burying everything deep inside And the rest of us will move on, pretending not to notice what a pathetic failure the mighty Alpha is!”
“Shut up, Madison!” I turned to face her, my eyes flashing dangerously. “Shut your mouth!”
“And then, one day, then you need me, when you finally realize your precious Rachel is scattered in pieces, when you understand that damn breeder is gone forever, and you should have loved me instead!”
“GET OUT, MADISON!” Froared. “GET OUT RIGHT NOW!”
“I’ll leave when you admit and accept that stupid breeder Rachel is DEAD!”
My patience reached its limit. I grabbed her arm with enough force to leave bruises, one hand sliding up to grip her throat, pinning her against the wall.
“Never, EVER say her name again. Do you hear me? I never want to hear her name from your damn mouth again!” I snarled.
Madison’s face first reddened from lack of oxygen, then paled with fear. Realizing I might kill her, I released my grip and shoved her
aside.
“GET OUT!”
She clutched her reddened neck and arm, gasping heavily, fear and hatred flashing in her eyes. Then she rushed out of my room, muttering under her breath that I was a cruel beast.
Perhaps she was right. Perhaps I was indeed a beast who couldn’t control himself.
After Madison left, I sat on the edge of the bed. Her strong perfume lingered like a poisonous cloud around me. It stung my nose, making it difficult to breathe. I hated this smell but had nowhere to escape it.
I longed for Rachel’s soft, sweet scent. But the longer
e was gone, the more this scent disappeared from my territory.
Remembering how she felt was becoming increasingly difficult. Her singing voice, the melody filling the room like moonlight chasing away darkness.
I pushed every thought from my mind and walked to the bathroom to wash my face. The cold water streamed over my face, as if washing all emotions down the drain.
