Chapter 51
“What?” His eyes flashed dangerously..
Nathan… she’s pregnant and has been cooped up in here. If you’re planning to ‘release‘ her anyway, what’s the harm in letting her have some freedom?”
“Tyler!” His voice carried the growl of his wolf.
“She’s a fucking pregnant she–wolf, Nathan!” I shouted back, something I hadn’t done since we were pups. Yelling at your Alpha goes against pack rules.
My raised voice seemed to shock him first. He just stood there, eyes all of golden anger, unsure what to say next to me. His pine scent turned cold and dangerous.
Nathan said, “She hasn’t seen me for days, won’t talk to me, and then she-”
“Man, calm down. She’s not doing anything crazy. She’s been locked up for a week and a half. Her wolf needs exercise and socialization. She just wants something normal. I’ll make sure she’s taken care of; Victoria’s already mind–linked me that they’ll come straight back after inch.”
Nathan paced the room, his wolf clearly agitated beneath his skin. I could see the conflict in him–anger at Rachel’s disobedience mixed with something deeper. Concern…..
Anyone who’s seen them together can tell that. But he’s so determined to suppress his wolf that he’s lying to himself.
“She’s carrying my heir, Tyler. I need to know she’s safe.”
“Victoria and Gina are with her. She couldn’t be safer.” I paused, studying him. “You know, you could just talk to her. Tell her how you feel.”
His expression hardened immediately. “I don’t have feelings for her. This is about the heir.”
“Right.” I didn’t bother hiding my disbelief. “And that’s why your eyes turn gold every time you’re around her or hear her name.”
“Enough, Beta.” His voice was cold, a clear dismissal.
What can I say? The Alpha has already said so.
Then I went to the second office, planning to look up some materials about the war. I’ve really had a lot on my mind recently.
Just then, a soft knock at my door interrupted my thoughts.
Opening it revealed Gina standing there, a large, worn brown leather book tucked under her arm.
Her fresh rain–on–grass scent immediately filled.my senses, making my wolf stir with longing.
“What are you doing here?,” I said, unable to hide the pleasure in my voice despite trying to maintain my Beta composure.
I invited Gina into the office. She entered, but remained near the door, shifting her weight nervously from one foot to the other. I couldn’t help but wonder what had brought her to me.
“Oh, it’s nothing. Just something stupid I found,” she muttered, clutching the book tighter.
“Mind showing me?” I asked, stepping closer.

Chapter 51
Her scent intensified as I approached, and my wolf howled inside me with the desire to pull her into my arms. I noticed her breathing quicken at my nearess, her eyes flicking briefly to my lips before darting away.
“I was in the library and found omething I thought was interesting she explained, finally opening the book.
She flipped through several pages before settling on a photograph that made me freeze.
It showed an elegant, regal woman with long copper hair flowing over her shoulders, wearing a crown of red–gold. Despite her obvious power, her eyes held kindness.
“I don’t understand. What is this?” I asked.
“I think Rachel looks like hel. If Rachel is her descendant… maybe you could convince Nathan to forget about marrying Madison,” Gina suggested, her eyes hopeful.
I pressed my fingers against the bridge of my nose, trying to keep my voice steady. “Gina, marrying Madison is King Jason’s order. Raymond is seeking alliance and power, which he can only get through his daughter’s marriage. The problem is, we can’t refuse the

Before I could respond, she turned and stormed out, slamming the door behind her. My wolf growled angrily at upsetting our mate.
