Chapter 22
Rachel’s POV
I tried not to let it bother me. After all, what had I expected? That one night together would make him see me as than a breeder?
see me as something more
To keep myself from spiraling into melancholy, I threw myself into the one thing that had always brought me comfort: music.
When Victoria discovered my love for the harp, her eyes lit up, and the next day she showed me to the castle’s music room—| beautiful space with high ceilings and instruments Fil only dreamed of playing.
My brother rarely comes to this part of the catle, she explained, is twinkling “So you can play to your hearts content.
And I did. For hours each day, I would lose myself in the melodies my mother had taught me, my fingers remembering what my mind had buried.
Sometimes, when I thought no one was listening, I would sing, letting the words flow from somewhere deep inside me. moments, I gould almost forget why was here.

The days blended together, and I gradually lost track of time. How long had it been since that night with Nathan? Two weeks? Three? I wasn’t sure anymore…
It was during one such afternoon, while I was playing a particularly poignant melody that reminded me of home, that I heard gentle knock on the music room door.
I stopped playing immediately, turning to see Emma standing in the doorway.
“Rachel, I hope I’m not interrupting,” she said.
I set the harp aside carefully. “Not at all. Is everything alright?”
“I was hoping you could come to the medical ward with me,” she replied, her tone measured.
My heart skipped a heat. I knew exactly what this was about, even before she said it.
The pregnancy test…
After weeks of waiting and wondering, I would finally know.
“Of course, I managed, trying to keep my voice steady. “Will Tyler be joining us?”
Emma smiled reassuringly. “He’ll meet us there. He’s handling some security matters first.”
As we walked through the castle corridors, my mind raced with possibilities. What if I wasn’t pregnant? What would happen then? Would Nathan be angry? Would I be sent back to my father, the debt still unpaid?
My hand instinctively drifted to my abdomen, a silent prayer forming in my heart. Please, Moon Goddess, let me be carrying his child.
The medical ward was sterile and bright, nothing like the warm wooden tones of the rest of the castle. I followed Emma to a private examination room, my eyes fixed on the floor, anxiety building with each step-
Just sit here,” Emma instructed, patting the examination table covered with white paper that crinkled loudly as I sat.

When she pulled out a needles my eyes widened in alarm.
“We need to do a blood test,” she explained calmly. “It’s more effect for werewolves than standard pregnancy tests.”
Nodding, I relaxed my arm and let her draw the blood, watching as the vial filled with crimson. Once done, I leaned hack against the chair, allowing myself a moment to imagine what a positive result light mean. Would Nathan be pleased?
A medical assistant knocked and entered, taking the blood sample from Emma before silently departing.
“How are you feeling, Rachel?” Emma asked, sitting across from me.
I think I’m okay.” I replied.
Emma tilted her head, studying me. “Is something bothering you?”
1 besitated, then admitted, “T just….. miss going outside… to the courtyard market,”
Just then, Tyler walked in, his manner as always–polite but distant. You can’t go out.”
Emma frowned, “Why?”
“Alphas orders,” Tyler explained. “He wants her to remain inside the castle, close to him.”
“That’s absurd,” Emma protested. “She needs fresh air and sunlight. Its important for her health and potential pregnancy,”
Tyler sighed, nodding. “I’ll speak to the Alpha about it‘
“No, please don’t trouble him,” I interjected quickly. “It’s fine. I’ll just open the windows in the Suite as usual.”
The last thing I wanted was for Nathan to be annoyed with me.
“No, Rachel,” Emma insisted. “You need to go outside daily. It’s good for your recovery.”
“Please, its fine. Don’t tell him,” I pleaded again.
Finally, Lama relented. “Alright….
The assistant returned, handing Emma a piece of paper before leaving again. The room fell silent as my heart pounded in my chest.
I watched Emma’s face as she read the results, her brow furrowing before she looked up at me with a sigh.
No words were needed. I already knew.
“So, she’s not pregnant, Emma officially informed Tyler.
I felt like a failure, unable to accomplish the one thing I’d been bought to do.
Fear surged within me. Was something wrong with me? Would I ever be able to conceive?
Would Nathan even look at me again, now that I’d failed him a second time? What would happen to me and my former pack? My father’s debt?
The thoughts made me dizzy. Panic overwhelmed me as my breathing became rapid and shallow. My vision blurred as I gripped the examination table, tears welling in my eyes.
Emma noticed immediately, moving closer to comfort me. “Rachel, it’s okay. Deep breaths…. in through your nose, out through your

Over these weeks, I’d begun to imagine myself as a mother, finding expected joy in the idea of bringing
life into the world.
Now, that vision had vanished.
“Rachel, dear… it’s okay,” Emma soothed, gently embracing me. “The things happen when they’re meant to.”
As I slowly calmed down, Tyler asked, “What do we do now, Emma?”
“Well, it might take several attempts, but we should be able to analyse her optimal hest cycle and determine the best timing for conception, Emma replied.
My eyes widened. “Several times…” I wasn’t sure I’d heard correctly.
Emma smiled, pouring me a glass of water.
“We’ll arrange everything,” she continued. “you and
Nathan will need to try again.”
