Chapter 160
Rachel’s POV
The next day, I sat in the living room of Carter’s safe house, my face etched with worry, as my fingers unconsciously traced circles over my swollen belly
Nathan’s scent stil! imgered in my mind, but doubt had taken root in my heart. Every time I remembered his eyes, that dangerous allure that once captivated me, my heart trembled..
Selena approached, handing me a steaming cup of herbal tea. “You look troubled. Drink this–it’ll calm your nerves and soothe the baby.
The warm liquid slid down my throat, its aroma slightly easing the tension coiled within me. I gazed out the window, watching sunlight filter through the
trees.
“Do you know if Carter is coming back tonight?” I asked.
Her understanding smile made me wonder how transparent my emotions were. “I handling affairs. But I believe he’ll return this afternoon.”
sweet how you worry about him. As an Alpha, he’s always busy
“Then I should have enough time to tidy up the room,” I nodded. Keeping busy was the best way to avoid slipping into memories I couldn’t afford to dwell
- on.
“Miss, I can take care of the house,” Scarlet said from the doorway.
Selena nodded in agreement. “Why don’t you find something relaxing to do? After all, your condition requires more rest.”
After a moment’s consideration, I decided to do something uplifting. My hand gently caressed my belly, feeling the life stirring within. I hadn’t visited the nursery for a while, and just thinking about spending time there brightened my mood.
Besides, if I ultimately decided to leave Carter’s protection, it would be wise to start planning what to take. Despite Carter’s promises to protect me, a sense of insecurity lingered deep inside.
‘Selena, I’m going to check on some things in the baby’s room,” I said, my voice soft but determined. “I’ll call if I need help.”
‘Of course, dear,” Selena responded gently.
The moment I entered the nursery, my spirits lifted. The room radiated warmth, with its soft colors and carefully prepared crib showcasing the anticipation of new life. The walls displayed symbols of the Moon Goddess’s blessing, believed in werewolf culture to protect mother and cubs.
However, an envelope on the floor caught my attention.
A letter addressed to me.
What is this? Confusion washed over me. Only a select few knew my whereabouts… who would write to me, and how did it get here?
Nathan?
Just as I was about to break the wax seal, Scarlet appeared in the doorway. I was so focused that I didn’t notice her presence until she called my name.
“Miss, anything special you’d like for dinner?”
Then she noticed the letter in my hand, frowning slightly. “I don’t recall any mail being delivered recently?”
That was precisely my thought. Who could deliver a letter here, bypassing Carter’s tight security?
In the past, I would have shared such concerns with Victoria, but now I felt unusually alone. Especially since I planned to leave this place sooner or later, I needed to handle difficulties by myself.
*Carter left me a note,” I quickly fabricated a plausible explanation, trying to keep my voice steady, masking my unease.

I wasn’t sure how convincing this excuse was, but seelity the smile that blossomed on Scarlet’s face, it seemed persuasive enough
Then I answered her question about dinner, Something light for dinner, perhaps fish with salad?”
“No problem! Scarlet replied cheerfully, leaving the room with a smile.
This definitely isn’t from Nathan, I thought. He was the type who would rather communicate through our mind link or tell me things in person. Moreover, our mate bond would allow me to sense his presence.
Who is it from?
This time, I gently closed the door, ensuring I wouldn’t be interrupted.
I carefully broke the wax seal and unfolded the letter
The handwriting was vaguely familiar
sted, carrying malevolent energy.
The letter wasn’t long.
‘Dear Rachel,
Miss me? It’s been too long. What a surprise! The little girl whose hair I once stroked now has Alphas bowing to her. Thanks to you and your Alpha’s ‘kindness,‘ I’ve lost my pack status and a hand.
You ruined my life, slut!
I can’t wait to see you begging for my forgiveness, but it’ll cost you.
Give me money, and you’ll never see me again.
Don’t tell anyone, or I swear by the Moon Goddess, as long as I live, you and your child will never know peace.”
I froze, my hands trembling with fear, heart pounding wildly.
Daniel! My stepbrother.
He’d found me! No matter how much I wished it wasn’t true, he was here!
I scanned the letter multiple times, trying to comprehend it all. My thoughts returned to that day at the market when I thought I’d seen a familiar figure.
It was him. I’d just hoped he hadn’t seen me.
After moving to Vortex, I thought I was finally safe. I thought I’d escaped the nightmares of my past!
But Daniel was out there, possibly watching me right now, savoring my fear. I could almost countless times.
see his evil smile, the face that had appeared in my nightmares
What could I do…?
If Daniel could deliver a letter here, could sneak it into my baby’s room surrounded by guards, did I really have any options?
I steadied myself against the wall, finally managing to sit in a chair, arms wrapped tightly around my belly as if that could protect my unborn child.
Calm down, calm down, I told myself. I needed to stay rational.
Seeking Nathan’s help wasn’t an option. If he knew Daniel had found me, he would stop at nothing to kill him.
Although I hated Daniel, I didn’t want Nathan to get into more trouble because of me, especially with his wedding to Madison approaching.
More importantly, if Daniel knew he was being hunted by Nathan’s men, wouldn’t he desperately do something dangerous?

Whatever way Daniel had breached Carter’s security team, I couldn’t risk it. Any additional stress at this sensitive time could endanger my haly.
I tried to reason with myself… if he only needed money…
Perhaps I had enough savings to give him.
Ivan once, I can run again. I blinked away the tears threatening to fall. Now wasn’t the time for emotions.
I carefully tore the letter into the smallest pieces possible and tucked them into my pocket.
Then, I wrote a note and placed it on the nightstand in my room, pretending it was for Carter.
