Chapter 152
Fresh tears welled up as I berated myself for my stupidity. When would I finally understand that I was just a tool to him, a breeder to he discarded after
use?
I remembered believing his intimate declarations. “Every day, my wolf has been calling for you,” “When you left, I felt true pain for the first time After you left my life, I thought I could never feel anything again.”
How long had he rehearsed those lies before coming here? How had he made them sound so sincere?
I imagined him strategizing with his Beta and warriors, carefully planning everything to say to make me trust him completely.
It was all to get close to Carter. That was the only reason he needed me this time.
If I weren’t carrying his Alpha heir, Nathan would have killed me without hesitation.
I remembered eagerly asking Selena about werewolf mates who’d overcome terrible experiences like mine with Nathan. She had many stories of mates who‘ couldn’t move past their trauma, some reunions ending worse than the separation.
I’d refused to hear those warnings, insisting on hearing the rare success
the stories sour
I now painfully recognized that Nathan and I were doomed from the start because
“I’m his breeder; he’s my Alpha. I’m his tool; he’s my stud for an heir….” I stammered.
if they were just beautiful fantasies,
relationship wasn’t built on genuine love and respect.
My love for him only meant he could more easily manipulate my emotions and exploit–my value.
Once used up, I would be disposable waste to him. What did I truly have? Only the Alpha–blooded child in my belly, and once born, I’d be in a position where he could easily kill me.
“I’m so sorry, dear,” Selena said, hugging my trembling body. “I know you feel betrayed. Carter never hurt you, yet you… I can’t blame you. Because he genuinely cares about you. And honestly, you’re really a nice girl.”
“I just feel so guilty and awful about what happened to him,” I whispered.
“Don’t think that way. You saved him,” Selena continued, gently patting my back.
Footsteps behind us made us turn. Lucas, Carter’s deputy, stood at the doorway.
“He’s asking for you, Miss,” he said respectfully.
With Selena’s help, I slowly stood from the porch steps, one hand supporting my swollen belly as I entered the house and made my way to the bedroom where Carter rested.
The doctor stood by the door, his expression relaxed. “He’ll be fine.”
Relief flooded through me, my tense shoulders relaxing slightly.
‘Some wounds were quite deep and needed stitching, but fortunately, no internal organs were damaged,” the doctor explained. “He lost a good amount of blood, but with proper rest and hydration over the next few days, I believe he’ll recover quickly. I’ve left some medication to help with pain and sleep.”
Selena smiled. “We all know keeping him on bed rest is impossible.”
The doctor chuckled. “That’s why I left the medicine. You might need to sneak it into his food. Werewolves are notoriously stubborn.”
He patted my shoulder gently. “I heard about your brave actions, Miss. You didn’t back down when the Alpha attacked. That’s admirable.”
“Thank you,” I said softly, though deep down I didn’t feel like a hero.

Chapter 152
I’ll walk you to the door, doctor, Selena said, and they left together.
I carefully entered the room to check on Carter. His color had improved he looked tired but no longer in agony. He reached out his hand to me, and i hesitantly took it.
Rose, he smiled, his voice weak but warm, “please sit.”
I sat on the edge of the bed, unsure what he wanted to discuss. When I looked into his eyes, their depth reminded me of Nathan, making my heart flutter anxiously.
Nathan’s warning suddenly echoed in my mind. “He’s the one deceiving you! This is all a trap. Don’t believe anything Carter says!”
I stared into Carter’s clear eyes, searching for any sign of deception. How could that be? Carter has always been so good to me, so considerate…
Carter wouldn’t do that to me… would he? He wouldn’t use me, betray her like Nathan… right?
