Chapter 103
The headboard was carved with intricate Moon Goddess symbols and wolf patterns that would bring blessings to my child,
Could we look at that one?” I asked Mrs. Thompson, my eyes sparkling with excitement.
“Oh yes, that’s the Leonardo model. We don’t sell many because they’re quite expensive, but it’s wonderful. Those wolf pattern carvings are done by hand, making each crib unique.”
“Let’s take a look,” Carter said with his hands in his pockets as if they had no bottom. His gray eyes observed my reaction.
Mrs. Thompson smiled as she led us over. “As you can see, it’s very sturdy. The bars are spaced closely so your little cub will always be safe, even during full moons, and it converts to a toddler bed.”
I decided to move away from it. Just because I loved it didn’t mean I could afford it.
“What do you think?” Carter asked, his gaze resting softly on me.
I shook my head. “Carter, let’s look at the others.” My voice was quiet, my eyes avoiding the beautiful crib.
“You don’t like it? Why? Is it the color?” His brow furrowed with concern.
I shook my head. “No, I love it, it’s just-”
I didn’t want to take advantage of his kindness…
Carter interrupted me. “We’ll take it.” I stared at him for a moment, thinking perhaps we needed to talk about this. “What?” he stared back at me.
“Carter, it’s too expensive. I don’t think I can afford it,” I said worriedly.
“What? Oh, don’t worry, I’m paying for it.” His voice was casual, as if this were no big deal.
I grabbed his arm, feeling the muscles beneath. “No, Carter, I’m not sure I could pay you back.”
Carter tilted his head, raising his hand to gently touch my face. “Rose, I thought we were past this. Don’t worry. I want to do this for you. And… I’ve been thinking, I have an idea about how you can repay me for everything.”
“Hmm?” I asked him, my heart racing, but before he could answer me. Mrs. Thompson was talking to him again, and he was responding to her.
I hadn’t even realized the entire transaction had been completed. I never saw him pay for anything, but perhaps Lucas had already arranged it. I didn’t know what
Carter meant about how I could repay him, but it made me nervous. Carter had given me a good job, and that’s why I was here. Still, even with this job, it might take years to repay what he was spending. Would an Alpha really do all this for a pregnant she–wolf he barely knew?
With Carter’s kindness, he just might, right?
“Are you ready, Rose?” He held out his hand to me, his eyes warm and concerned.
“Oh yes, I’m ready,” I said, trying to pull myself out of my thoughts. I had been enjoying the day so far and didn’t want to ruin it by worrying about how to repay Carter. I gently placed my hand in his outstretched one.

Chapter 103
“I’m sorry we can’t have lunch together, but I have another meeting to attend this afternoon, Carter said as we headed back to where the seaplane waited.
“That’s fine, I told him before e climbed into the plane, prepared for takeoff again. This time, I wanted to make sure he wasn’t trying to “buy me. I’ve been sold once before; I won’t let that happen again.
When we landed, Carter walked me back to the cottage. Sunlight dappled through the leaves onto the path, and the sea breeze carried its salty scent.
*Rose, is everything alright?” he asked as he walked beside me, his eyes filled with concern. “I sense something’s wrong. Did I do something wrong?”

“Everything’s fine,” I told him my hand caressing my swollen bell feeling the cub’s movements. “I think I’m just tired.”
“Oh, that’s too bad. Because I was hoping that when we got back to your place, you could start repaying me for everything I’ve given you. His eyes flashed with mischievous gold, a playful smile playing on his lips.
My stomach tightened, not sure I wanted to know what he meant.
