Rocky let out a sigh, adding, “Geneva, ain’t you just wanna get our attention? We get it now, we didn’t pay enough attention to you before. We just wanna make it up to you, give you a warm family. Can we have another chance?”
His self–perceived love and kindness come across to Geneva as nothing but hypocrisy. “Make it up to me? How? When you guys had the means, you didn’t offer a thing. Now you don’t, but I can get whatever I want on my own. And now you wanna compensate me?
“When I needed it, y’all were MIA. Now that I’m good, you’re trying to force this on me–and you even brought the media! If I don’t accept your ‘compensation, are you gonna leak to the press how ungrateful I am?”
Seriously, don’t even try to act like you regret things and wanna fix it. If the original host was still around, quiet and obedient, they wouldn’t think twice about treating her badly. They’d just see her as an embarrassment.
“If the original host were here, she might choose to forgive.
‘But the original host was gone for good. And while I’m using her body, I’m not her. I’m just gonna help the original host fulfill one wish: make Geneva a name everyone respects and live out loud,‘ she said inwardly.
As for these parents? She didn’t have the time or energy for this family drama. No way she was gonna play along with their bullshit.
The Motley family was momentarily embarrassed when Geneva accurately called out their intentions.
Everyone from the research institute was also quite indignant, feeling that the Motley family was going too far.
This wasn’t about making amends with Geneva; it was about forcing her hand. They didn’t care about her forgiveness; they only wanted something from her.
Now that Geneva was successful and could bring them benefits, they wanna use “family’s love” to control her and get her to do whatever they wanted.
Seriously, Geneva totally drew the short straw with these parents.
“Geneva, don’t say that. We-”
Before Rocky could finish, Geneva cut him off mid–sentence. “And listen up. I work hard because of my dreams and goals. I wanna explore the world and make it a better place. It has nothing to do with getting your approval or attention.
“When I have more, whether or not you care about me now doesn’t matter anymore! So don’t try to guilt–trip me with fake emotions. Save your love for your younger daughter; she’s sweet and obedient and does everything you ask. She truly deserves your love.”
Rocky and Salena were left frozen on the spot.
It was a major burn for them. They were in this mess because of their younger daughter in the first place.
Being hit where it hurt, Salena snapped, “Geneva! So basically, you don’t care about your parents?! You ingrate! You will be talked about behind your back forever!”
At this time, a guy lugging a camera, who looked about the same age as Rocky, chimed in with some empathy, “Dr. Motley, after all, they’re your parents. No parents are perfect, and families should stick together.
“Why make things’so messy? And now they are sincerely apologizing, so holding a grudge is over the top. Why not take a step back and see the bigger picture?”
Geneva glanced at the middle–aged man, questioning, “Have you been through everything I have? Do you really feel what I’ve felt?”

“I…” the man hesitated.

Geneva cut in, “Since you haven’t, why should I step back? Why should I be great? When you tell someone to be forgiving, have you ever thought if you’re being kind?”
The guy, getting pinned by Geneva’s intense gaze, looked awkward and instantly fell silent.

“I no longer crave fake family ties. I’ve poured all my passion into my research. I want to contribute to society for the rest of my life. I let go of what I couldn’t get, and grabbed what I could. What’s wrong with that?” Geneva went on.
The researchers present were all shook by her words, thinking, ‘Yeah, she finally found her purpose in life after so much despair. And now, the very people who gave her that despair want to destroy her hard–earned beliefs. How cruel is that?”
After long–term interactions with Geneva, the researchers realized that she truly prioritized the nation’s interests above all else.
Someone like her being dragged down by these family issues? That was not fair.
One researcher stepped up. “Mr. Motley, if you really care about Geneva, take these reporters and leave now.”
“Right, Mr. Motley, you need to understand, Dr. Motley is part of the institute. She’s doing work that benefits the country and its people. If you can’t support her, at least don’t hold her back.”
Now, the Motley family was getting blasted by everyone at the institute.
They were all scholars, usually buried in their research, not used to throwing shade. But the message was clear enough.
Rocky went pale. If this dragged on, Geneva might go down in history as a renowned figure, while they would be remembered with infamy.
While he was still hesitating, Salena spoke up. “Geneva, we’re family. We did make mistakes in the past, but we’ve realized our mistakes now.”
Conrad pushed his glasses up, saying, “Mrs. Motley, your words might have been believable if you hadn’t brought these reporters along.”
Salena also regretted listening to Tabitha’s bad idea of bringing these reporters. But it was too late to regret now.
“Geneva, I’ve been so humble already, yet you still won’t forgive me. Do you really want me to kneel and beg you?” she asked.
Rocky also looked at Geneva, who remained expressionless except for a slight twitch in her cheek.
Rocky didn’t understand why this daughter, who used to crave their attention so much, had become so cold and heartless
now.
Geneva didn’t react to their aggressive approach, making the atmosphere a bit awkward. And Salena couldn’t bring herself to actually kneel to beg Geneva.
Suddenly, Tabitha said, “Geneva, Mom and Dad can’t eat or sleep because of your issues; they’ve aged so much. If you still consider yourself their daughter, you shouldn’t keep torturing them.”
Geneva glanced at her. “To them, I’m just disposable. Torture them? I’m flattered. Isn’t it you who’s torturing them? Isn’t it you who brought down the Motley Group? I’ve been away from the Motley family for so many years, yet you still want me
to take the blame. Does that make sense?”
Tabitha’s expression turned awkward. “Geneva, don’t say angry stuff anymore. Come home. I promise to let you have your way in everything from now on, as long as you’re happy.”
