Tabitha was shocked, thinking, ‘How could this kid be so clueless? Would I feel good about it to give away my own son? Would I do this if I had another choice?

Tabitha brought Barclay to the Wheeler family. But as soon as they entered the Wheeler family’s gate, she was slapped in the face by Kyla.
She covered her face, looking aggrieved. “Mrs. Wheeler…”
“My son isn’t here now. Who are you making that face for?” Kyla sneered. “His misfortune to run into you is a curse! A once harmonious family has been torn apart! Now, because of you, he’s ended up in prison. How can you still have the audacity to show up here?!”
Tabitha shook her head frantically. “I didn’t do it. it wasn’t me… I wouldn’t hurt Stan…”
She started sobbing again, retorting inwardly, ‘It was clearly Stan and Harrison who insisted on fighting over me and got themselves jailed. What did I have to do with it?
‘I had already advised them not to do that, but they wouldn’t listen. Am I really to blame for being too outstanding and charming?‘
“Stan abandoned his parents for you; he ended up like this because of you. You don’t even dare to admit it? Do you think denying everything will erase what my son did for you?
“Let me tell you, if my son can’t live well, neither will you!” Kyla regretted allowing Stan and Tabitha’s relationship back then.
Geneva, though quiet, had never brought any trouble to the Wheeler family.
Moreover, if the Wheeler family had treated her even slightly better, today’s accomplishments of Geneva would have had a share of credit for the Wheeler family as well.
The Wheeler family would have a scientist daughter–in–law admired by all.
‘But all of this was ruined by Tabitha, that shameless woman!
‘How dare she come back to the Wheeler family now? Does she think we don’t know why she’s here?
‘As Stan and Harrison are in jail, she needs a new target and wants to return Barclay,‘ Kyla thought.
If Barclay was really Stan’s child, she would keep him.
Now that Emerson had openly arranged for his illegitimate child to enter the company, it was clear that her son was not to be relied upon. But she could put her hope in her grandson.
Until Emerson returned home, Tabitha kept crying pitifully.
Emerson understood Tabitha’s intentions and paused his gaze on Barclay for a moment before saying, “We can consider accepting Barclay, if that’s what you want.”
Tabitha immediately stopped crying and looked at Emerson with tearful eyes.
When Kyla recalled how Tabitha used this same gaze to bewitch her son in the past, and now employed it again to captivate her husband, she grew so enraged that she stood up and slapped Tabitha across the face again.
“You slut! Tempting my son is one thing; now even my husband?” she seethed.
Tabitha looked aggrieved as she said repeatedly, “I didn’t… I didn’t…”

Emerson was totally grossed out by her expression. ‘What kind of dogshit taste does my carefully raised son have? How could he end up like this because of a woman?‘ he thought.
“Alright, stop acting up,” he said. “The Wheeler family is facing some issues now. If something happens to the Wheeler family, even if Barclay returns, he won’t have a good life. If you want Barclay to have a bright future, do me a favor.”
“What is it?” Tabitha asked.

Emerson replied, “I heard your parents have a project that’s guaranteed to make money. You’re their daughter; getting info on that project should be easy for you, right?”
Tabitha widened her eyes, thinking, ‘Is he asking me to steal business secrets from the Motley Group?”
“No, I can’t do that,” she refused.
“Then there’s nothing we can do. Take Barclay back home,” Emerson said.
Tabitha looked at Barclay and then at Emerson, hesitating.
Emerson continued, “Even if you leak this project info, it won’t shake the foundation of the Motley Group. Your parents wouldn’t be angry with you; after all, they love you the most.”
Yeah, my parents wouldn’t blame me; I was their favorite daughter. And I was doing this for Barclay; my parents would understand, and Barclay would appreciate me.
‘No one would blame me. So, Tabitha just convinced herself it was justified and actually stole the project details from the Motley Group and gave them to Emerson.
Unaware of his daughter’s betrayal, Rocky pushed forward with the project.
When funds were invested and the project was about to start, however, he found that the Wheeler Group had already launched an identical one first.
The Motley Group suffered a total defeat.
Upon learning it was Tabitha who betrayed him, Rocky hit her for the first time. “You ingrate! I’ve always favored you over Geneva since you were a kid. What have I done to you? You treat your own dad like this!”
Tabitha covered her face, sobbing again, “Dad, I didn’t want to… It’s all for Barclay… I was forced into it.”
Enraged, Rocky burst out laughing. “Right! You were forced into everything! Forced into eloping! Forced into having a child! Forced into fighting your sister over a man! Everything is someone else’s fault but not yours–you’re perfect!”
“The favored would always act recklessly, and Tabitha was just taking advantage of being the favorite to pull this stunt. ‘If it were Geneva… Thinking of Geneva, Rocky started regretting again.
Tabitha was such a dimwit; she didn’t look anything like his daughter. It was actually Geneva who inherited his good genes.
Too bad, the daughter who could bring glory to the Motley family was pushed away by him, and now it was too late to regret.
Sometimes, Rocky couldn’t help but wonder if only he had paid more attention to Geneva and recognized her talents, then by nurturing her from a young age, the Motley family might have already become a household name by now.
But he couldn’t go back in time. The daughter he doted on didn’t turn out well, while the daughter he didn’t pay much attention to turned out to be so promising, she didn’t acknowledge him.
Thinking of this, Rocky felt a sharp pain in his chest and almost fainted.

Chapter 28
Rocky was really furious this time. In a fit of anger, he kicked both Tabitha and Barclay out of the Motley family.
He couldn’t afford to have such a daughter who would screw him over repeatedly.

Salena also didn’t dare to plead for mercy. Thinking of the bankruptcy of the Motley Group and the end of her life as a rich lady, she also resented Tabitha.
At heart, Salena and Tabitha were just the same kind of people; otherwise, she couldn’t have raised a daughter like Tabitha.
She could love this daughter when her own interests were not harmed.
But once this daughter harmed her interests, she could stop loving her at anytime.
Love, after all, came with conditions.
Tabitha went to the Wheeler family again, thinking surely they would give her and Barclay a place to stay now that she had done so much for the Wheeler family.
But not only did the Wheeler family not take her, they also refused to accept Barclay.
“We don’t dare to take in someone who can betray her own father,” Emerson said coldly.
Tabitha looked utterly despairing. “Mr. Wheeler, you don’t have to accept me, but Barclay is your grandson.”
