Series 1–Chapter 1
Series 1–Chapter 1
On his way to pick up my wedding dress, My fiancé Ethan Blake was kidnapped.
He survived, but forgot me entirely. Whenever anyone mentioned our wedding, he’d collapse.
The doctor said it was post–traumatic stress causing a split personality.
Then I discovered I was pregnant. The doctor was hopeful: “The baby might help awaken the part of him that deeply loves you!”
Clutching my ultrasound results with hope, I went to find him. Instead, I overheard him joking with
his friends:
“Ethan, you’re a genius! Faking a second personality to escape marriage! What’s next–a third or fourth persona?”
“No! I love Olivia Harper. Just gotta keep the charade up a little longer–ten more hookups and I’m calling it quits.”
“Only ten? That’s barely enough to try all positions! Why not keep up the act for a year? She’ll wait
for you anyway!”
Ethan snapped at his friend, “I can’t bear to see her sad for that long! Come on, you bastards need to
wingman me here! I want fresh meat, the kinkier the better. Three new girls a week. I need to get
this out of my system before our wedding!”
My hands trembling, I tore up the ultrasound and headed to schedule an abortion.
When I returned to the hospital, the doctor assumed something was wrong with me.
Learning I wanted the procedure, he was shocked: “This pregnancy was hard–won for you both. Terminating it might worsen your fiancé’s condition.”
I laughed bitterly: “If I told him about it, that would truly destroy him.”
After all, he was still reveling in his conquest of women while keeping himself “untethered.”

I couldn’t understand how the man who begged me to marry him could lie about being sick.
The doctor reluctantly agreed but insisted on calling Ethan before signing the forms.
“Ms. Harper, this child belongs to both of you. Even if his illness makes him reluctant, he should come sign and support you. If there’s a misunderstanding, you can clear it up…”
I gently touched my stomach, no longer objecting.
I had polycystic ovaries. Getting pregnant had been a struggle.
Ethan had cared deeply once, even fighting with his parents to marry me.
Now that I was giving up our child, he should at least say goodbye.
But as soon as the doctor called, Ethan scoffed: “How much did Olivia pay you to act? I’ve never even met her, let alone agreed to marry her!”
“Please tell her to stop these desperate tricks. I can’t even be sure the baby is mine!”
The dial tone and his cruel laughter echoed through the silent operating room.
I signed the forms myself and closed my eyes.
When I woke after surgery, several messages from Ethan waited on my phone.
[It doesn’t matter what we were before. I’m done with that I’m me now, and you’re you. If you’ve got the time to put on this pathetic act and lie to me, then you might as well pack up and get out of my house.]
Then he’d “thoughtfully” rented me an apartment in the same complex.
He even paid the first month’s rent.
To avoid any suspicion, he’d signed a year–long lease with the landlord.
Considering we’ve crossed paths before, you don’t need to pay me back for that.]
glanced at the bloody tissue that had been our embryo and replied calmly:
Fine. Thank you.]

That rent payment could be considered his final act of responsibility toward our child.
During my three days in the hospital, he never reached out again.
Yet his social media was on fire with posts about nightlife–parties, clubs, women.
As if he was trying to make up for all the wild years he’d missed because of me.
I knew he was posting these things for me to see.
But from my burner account, I couldn’t view any of it.
So, I played along, liking every video from my main account.
When I checked out of the hospital, I ran into him rushing down the corridor with doctors and a
gurney.
The moment he saw me, he turned his back, pretending not to notice.
But I overheard the emergency doctor giving instructions:
“Prepare OR One for an RH–negative blood transfusion! The patient has a ruptured corpus luteum
with severe hemorrhaging!”
“What? We’re out of stock?”
After hanging up, the doctor quickly briefed Ethan on the situation.
The man who had just ignored me froze, then turned and sprinted toward me.
“Olivia, if you donate blood for Riley, I’ll overlook your little stalking spree!”
I was taken aback.
“I wasn’t stalking you…”
“Cut the crap! Saving her is what matters!”
He grabbed my arm and dragged me toward the doctor.
“She’s got RH–negative blood. Take as much as you need!”

I couldn’t break free, but I laughed bitterly. “I thought you didn’t know me? How do you know I have
rare blood?”
I locked eyes with him, waiting for an answer.
