Chapter 150
I noticed how, even injured, Carter was trying to protect me and my baby. I turned hack to Nathan, tears streaking my face.
If you want him, you’ll have to tear through me and your child first!‘ I shouted. “Though I’m sure that means nothing to a powerful Alpha like you. But know this before you leave this island, his warriors will find you,”
1 held up Carter’s communicator for Nathan to see, but didn’t send a distress signal. Despite everything, I couldn’t bring myself to endanger my mate.
Nathan shifted back to human form, standing naked before me. I kept my eyes fixed on his stormy gray eyes.
He pleaded. This is all a deception. Carter has been child.”
ng to you from the beginning! I didn’t come here to kill him. I came for you to protect you and our
“You can stop lying now, Nathan!” I screamed. “It doesn’t matter! I don’t believe a word you say!”
I glanced at Carter, who was struggling to pull on his pants. Blood flowed from wounds on his side, shoulder, and neck.
“Please, Nathan begged. ‘I came for you because I love you. Our mate bond led me to you–that’s how I knew you were still alive. Every moment since you left has been like losing part of my soul-”
“Enough, Nathan!” I cut him off. “I don’t want to hear it! You’ve lied to me for the last time. The first time, when I learned you planned to dispose of me, wasn’t so surprising–I didn’t expect a powerful Alpha to be any different. But this time…
Hot tears rolled down my cheeks. “This time you looked me in the eyes and lied, making me believe you loved me.”
“It’s not what you think, Rachel,” Nathan argued. “My hatred with Carter goes back many years. He’s Dylan’s spy!”
He called out my real name, though at this point there wasn’t much left to hide anyway.
“All the more reason you used me to get to him!” I shouted. “Making me your pawn!”
I picked up a jacket from the ground and threw it at Nathan to cover himself.
“Come with me, Rachel,” he urged. ‘I can shift and take you away from here. We don’t have much time. Carter’s men are closing in.”
“Good!” I shouted. “Maybe they’ll kill you the way you planned to kill me. Maybe they’ll slaughter you like you were about to slaughter Carter!”
Pain flashed in Nathan’s eyes as he stepped toward me. “Rachel, don’t you remember our night in the firefly forest? Don’t you remember all the vows I made to you?”
“You mean your lies?” I shot back. “Yes! I remember! You’re a liar, Nathan!”
I could barely breathe through my tears. “You used me! You planned to kill me! I should have listened to my mind from the start instead of being blinded by the mate bond. Now I can tell you–there won’t be a third chance!”
Distant voices called out, “Rose! Carter! Where are you?
Nathan realized his time was running out. “Come with me, Rachel! For our child!”
“No! Never!” I backed away, hands protectively cradling my belly.
“You’re making a mistake, Rachel, Nathan warned. “He’s the one deceiving you! This is all a trap. He serves Dylan, the Alpha of the Western Territory! You don’t know what you’re facing!”
‘I know I had to run to escape you, and Carter saved me and took me in,” I countered. “You wanted to kill me, and he protected me!”
Footsteps crashed through the underbrush. “They’re over here!” someone shouted.

“Rachel! Nathan called desperately.
“I never want to see you again!” I sobbed.
As the guards broke through the trees, I wanted to tell Nathan to run, but the words died in my throat. Before shifting back to wolf form, Nathan’s final words reached me. I love you, Rachel. I will never give up on you and our child. I’ll prove the truth to you!”
Then he was gone, a black shadow melting
the darkness, leaving me shattered and confused, with Carter’s blood on my hands.
