Chapter 125
Scarlet brought a water–filled vase decorated with moon patterns. As I stared out the window, the vase slipped from my hands, shattering on the floor and splashing water over my shoes.
“I’m so sorry, I apologized.
Scarlet went to get a broom and mop, smiling. “Pregnancy temporarily weakens an Alpha female’s wolf abilities.”
I tried to help, but she gently refused. “No, no, you might hurt yourself. I’ll handle it, Miss.”
Another night passed without sight of Nathan. My sleep was interrupted by both the baby’s kicking and dreams of Nathan. All day, I searched the garden for any trace of him, pretending to trim roses.
My wolf senses were fully alert, trying to catch any Alpha scent but I found no footprints, lingering pine scent, or evidence of his return.
I began to wonder if Nathan had actually visited me at all, or if it had been a pregnancy–induced hallucination.
By the third day after Nathan’s appearance, I decided to continue with my life. Whatever had brought him briefly back into my world, he’d gotten what he wanted and left again.
I sat in the nursery, stitching a baby blanket with moon patterns while Selena organized the baby clothes in the drawers.
“I just love baby clothes,” Selena hummed an ancient werewolf lullaby about the Moon Goddess’s blessings.
I didn’t respond, my gaze empty, barely noticing her words.
“You know, I’ve helped many first–time Lunas over the years, and it always turns out well,” she continued.
I simply smiled, my fingers tracing the moon pattern on the blanket.
“Once, a few years ago, I cared for a young mother who was so nervous! She was a few years younger than you, but not…”
I imagined Selena was tactfully saying the mother’s bloodline wasn’t as pure as mine. I nodded in understanding, but my thoughts had already drifted back to Nathan.
Selena went on about how the nervous mother had waited until she was almost in labor to admit she was giving birth, her husband worried she’d deliver on their living room floor.
“She had a beautiful Alpha girl,” Selena laughed, patting my hand. “Her eyes were already golden at
“That’s nice,” I replied hollowly, wondering why Nathan’s eyes had flickered with pain when he saw me.
Lost in thought, I let the silver needle slip, stabbing my finger.
“Ouch!” A few drops of blood rolled down, and I quickly moved my hand to avoid staining the baby blanket.
“Let me get you some ointment,” Selena said, concerned. “Dear, you’re really distracted. Alphas don’t usually injure themselves so easily.”
“Thank you,” I said.

Chapter 125
After bandaging my finger, decided to stop sewing for now. Iso resolved to stop thinking about Nathan–it would take a thousand years to understand an Alpha’s Intentions.
I felt his return was only to confirm my weakness–to twist the knife in my heart again.
“Miss, Scarlet announced, “Mr. Wilson will return tomorrow evening. Would you like me to prepare…”
I sighed, deciding to look forward to Carter’s return.
At least he made me feel safe. I spent the day thinking about what dinner
in my heart with ordinary matters.
to
prepare for him, trying to fill the emptiness
That night, after everyone had left, I completed my evening routine. Before bed, I stepped outside for fresh air –I told
myself.
The island air was slightly cool, the night sky cloudy with the moon occasionally peeking through.
I stood by the porch, staring into nothingness as I had done most of the past three days.
Just as I was about to go back inside, I heard rustling in the bushes and caught a familiar whiff of pine.
I didn’t dare call his name through our mind link, but moved closer to investigate, peering through branches, finding nothing.
Disappointed, I turned to go inside, the green in my eyes gradually fading.
Then I collided with a wall of muscle that smelled of pine woods and winter
mountains–his scent!
