Chapter 115
Nathan’s POV
Alpha, Tyler has located the target. He should be back with a complete report in approximately two hours.”
I turned to face Mia. “Good. Take your team and scout the route to that base. Then report directly back to King Jason in Emerald
City.”
Mia nodded, his posture straightening. “Yes, Alpha.”
“Third squad,” I called out, my voice carrying across the room without effort, “prepare to move. We rendezvous with Tyler’s team at
2 pm.
As my orders were acknowledged and the teams dispersed, I felt an unexpected flutter of excitement. Something about this mission had me strangely energized.
Perhaps this was my chance to get closer to the places she had once walked, to trace her footsteps in a way I never could before.
[Everything secure in the capital?] I texted.
[All quiet. Any developments on your end?] Jason replied.
Not yet. Tyler’s team has located something promising. I’ll update you once
The mental connection faded, and I checked my watch. A few hours to kill.
have details.]
The jewelry shop Jason had mentioned was a thirty–minute walk from our temporary base. I sprinted the whole way, eager to arrive as quickly as possible. The place wasn’t high–end, but it carried decent merchandise.
A middle–aged woman finished with her customer and approached me.
“Sir, how may I assist you today?” she asked, her tone deferential but not cowering.
I hesitated for a moment, then pulled the moon–shaped pendant from my pocket and placed it on the counter, keeping my fingers on it.
“Have you seen this necklace before?”
The woman’s eyes lit up with recognition immediately. “Oh yes! I remember this piece. Isn’t it beautiful? When I first saw it, I thought the moonstone must be fake because it was so perfect. But it’s real–every single piece.”
My eyes flashed gold involuntarily. “Where did it come from?” I asked, my voice barely above a growl.
The shopkeeper sensed my intensity and stepped back slightly. “I–I’m not sure I should
I placed several bills on the counter. “The owner of this necklace is important to me.”
Her hesitation faded. “We got it from our regular supplier, Arthur. He brought it during his weekly delivery.”
My heart sank. So the necklace hadn’t been sold here directly…
“Arthur mentioned it was brought to his pawn shop by a young lady, she continued. “Said she seemed eager to be rid of it. Young thing with copper hair. Had some guards with her and a female servant.”

My pulse quickened, and I felt surge of hope rush through my vel Copper hair. It had to be her! I leaned forward, barely able to contain my excitement.
“Where is Arthur’s pawn shop lgated? I couldn’t keep the urgency om my voice.
He has several locations, but that one’s in Eastern territory. Phantom Island, specifically.”
Phantom Island. The same territory controlled by Carter Wilson. My Alpha presence intensified, and I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face.
“Thank you for your help,” I said, slipping the necklace back into my pocket.
“If you don’t mind me asking, she called as I turned to leave, “how did you come to possess a necklace that’s been sold?”
I paused at the door. “Moon Goddess’s arrangement.
As I walked back to the meeting point, hope surged through me. Could Rachel really be on that island?
Tyler’s video call came through just as I approached our rendezvous point. I answered immediately, my heart racing with urgency, hoping for news about her.
Alpha, we’re back with preliminary reports.
“Which island?” I asked immediately.
“Phantom Island.”
My eyes flashed golden again. The coincidence was now a pattern.
By evening, we’d infiltrated Phantom Island and settled into the small rental house Tyler’s team had secured during their reconnaissance.
“The target is located here,” Tyler said, pointing to a spot on the map. “A large private residence on the eastern side of Phantom Island. It has its own dock, plenty of space for aerial transport.”
“Security?”
“Tight. We tried to get closer, but Carter’s warriors were patrolling. We backed off to avoid raising suspicion.”
Tyler’s finger traced a path on the map. “We’ll need until tomorrow night to find a way in. Once inside, we can formulate an extraction plan.”
I nodded, my voice dropping to a low rumble. “I’ll accompany you tomorrow night. Is there a pawn shop in town?”
“Several chain locations in the central shopping district,” he replied, looking curious but not questioning my interest.
The sun was setting as I made my way to the town center. “I’m going to gather intel,” I’d told my team, leaving no room discussion.
When I reached the pawn shop, I found it had closed just ten minutes earlier. My fist clenched in frustration.
A strange pulling sensation tugged at my chest–the soul connection to my mate was growing stronger. Could it be related to Rachel? My wolf howled deep within me.
I clutched the moon pendant, trying to focus on that connection. Was she nearby?

When I lifted my head, my eyes darted frantically in every direction, scanning the crowded street with desperate intensity. People blurred past me as I spun around, searching every face, every silhouete,
Then i caught a glimpse of son one turning a corner about a block way–copper hair gleaming in the sunset.
At that moment, my heart stopped.
Rachel!!!
1 sprinted toward the corner, nearly colliding with an elderly woman as I rounded it, my breaths coming in short, desperate gasps.
“Excuse me, I managed, steadying her before continuing my pursuit.
Faster….
And then I saw her–the same copper hair, green eyes, almost identical… except she wasn’t pregnant.
Not Rachel.
The woman smiled at me, probably flattered by away, rounding the next corner.
my
obvious interest. The gold in my eyes dimmed as I looked down and walked
My heart plummeted as despair washed over me. Yet buried in my shattered spirit, a tiny spark of hope refused to surrender, lingering like a gentle whisper against the void.
Rachel could be on this island. The pull I felt wasn’t just my imagination–the connection was there, somewhere.
Tomorrow night couldn’t come soon enough.
