Chapter 111
Rachels POV
Where are we going?” I asked, adjusting my dress nervously as Carter’s sleek car glided through the evening streets of Phantom
Island.
“Just a little place in the center of the island, Carter replied. “Phantom doesn’t have many options, but there are a few good spots. I think you’ll like this restaurant. It’s one of my favorites.
I glanced down at my attire, second–guessing myself. “Am 1 dressed appropriately?”
The heels were my main concern–1 wasn’t used to weating them, especially now that pregnancy had altered my balance.
“Are you kidding? You’ll be the most beautiful woman there.” His voice carried absolute certainty.
My cheeks warmed at his compliment. “You’re too kind. Your mother must have been an amazing woman to have raised you so well. I smiled gently.
A shadow flashed across Carter’s face, his eyes momentarily hardening before he quickly composed himself. The sudden shift in his energy was palpable, like a cold breeze cutting through warm air.
“I am sorry. But they have an amazing pasta dish at the restaurant that I think you’ll love,” he said, smoothly changing the subject. Of course, you can have anything you like. The chef, Andrew, is a good friend of mine.”
I felt a twinge of unease, wondering if I’d touched a nerve. Should I apologize? But for what, exactly? I decided to follow his lead
instead.
“That sounds wonderful. I love pasta,” I replied, my hand instinctively caressing my belly as the baby gave a tiny flutter.
Carter’s eyes softened as he watched my hand. “Did you really knit that scarf in just one day?” he asked, pointing to the blue scarf
I’d made him.
“Yes, since it was just straight stitches in one color, it wasn’t difficult. Back in my father’s pack, I used to pass time that way.”
“Amazing. If I tried crocheting, I’d probably get my fingers tangled in the yarn and be trapped for life,” he laughed, his eyes briefly flashing gold with amusement.
When we arrived, a Beta driver opened our doors. Carter extended his arm to me, and I took it gratefully, feeling the solid strength beneath his tailored jacket.
The restaurant was stylish without being intimidating–warm lighting, dark wood tables, and the delicious scent of spices and grilled meat permeating the air.
Every werewolf in the restaurant turned toward us, their heightened senses immediately detecting an Alpha’s presence.
Carter smiled and waved casually to several people, appearing completely at ease with the attention.
I, however, felt my shoulders tense under their curious gazes. I was a stranger here, and a pregnant one at that.
A man in a tailcoat with an immaculately trimmed beard approached us, his face lighting up at the sight of Carter.
“Mr. Wilson, welcome! Your table is ready, Alpha,” he said with a respectful bow of his head.
“Thank you,” Carter nodded, his hand finding the small of my back to guide me forward.

Chapter 111
Our table was situated in a secluded corner with a perfect view of the ocean through large windows,
Lexhaled with relief once seated, glad to be away from the prying eyes of the other diners,
Within moments, our drinks arrived→-sparkling juice for me and a glass of rich red wine for Carter. The menus were thick, leather bound affairs, but Carter had been right–1 was immediately drawn the pasta section.
So, how’s the baby?” Carter asked, his gaze dropping to my rounded belly.
As far as I know, fine,” I said, placing a protective hand over my bump.
“How has the movement been today?” His voice carried genuine concern.
“Hmm, the baby’s still small. When those little hands kick me, it’s like butterfly wings fluttering against my organs, I chuckled softly, describing the miraculous sensation.
“You should know soon whether it’s a boy or girl,” Carter said, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“I think I’ve decided I don’t want to know,” I answered, my fingers tracing circles on my belly.
