Chapter 87
Rachel’s POV
The next morning. I lay in the comfortable bed Carter had provided tipping through a travel magazine about the Weste Continent islands.
The Western Continent consists of over a hundred small islands, many with thate oven unique wolf pack cultures.
…although these islands natural resources arent as abundant as the Eastern territories, their mild climate, variety of sound, and unique pack traditions still make them one of the best choices for wives seeking pedes and new beginnings. They are experially appealing to those from war torn areas of the Eastern territories…
A gentle knock interrupted my reading. Assuming it was the maid who usually Brought breakfast around this time, I called softly.
“Come in.”
No one opened the door. After waiting a moment, I decided to get up and see who was outside. When I opened it, I was greet
Carter’s warm smile.
“Good morning, Rose,” he said. He paused, fingers lightly tapping the doorframe. “I was passing by and thought. Maybe i shend check on her. I just need a good excuse.”
I smiled up at him, my heart beating a little faster, knowing he would continue.
Carter rubbed the back of his neck, flashing a charming smile and shrugging. “It took me about ten minutes to work up the courage to knock. Then I kind of forgot my excuse.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Did you remember it now?”
“Oh, I was going to lead with ‘I don’t want a pregnant she–wolf to go hungry, so I planned to bring everything from the kitchen, joked, his scent growing warmer. “But then I thought maybe starting your day with meat isn’t good for you and the cabs, as I settled on bringing this special berry jam instead.”
He held up a glass jar, and I could smell the delicious berry aroma even without opening the lid, my keen senses picking up the subtle sweet notes.
“So if you haven’t had breakfast yet, I highly recommend trying some, Carter continued with exaggerated husiasm, hus eyes twinkling warmly. “It’s a secret Eclipse pack recipe. The berries are picked from our territory’s forest, bies herself.”
the Moon Goddess
The jar itself was shaped like a little wolf, reminding me of the person who had just gifted it to me.
No one could resist such a friendly gesture, so when Carter handed in to me, I accepted his latest gift, feeling the warmth of his palm.
“You’re too kind,” I said, my voice carrying a hint of uncertainty. “Um would you like to come in? My scent was slightly nervous.
but not fearful.
I was wondering when you’d ask,‘ Carter replied.
He blinked a few times, but his easy tone and gentle scent assured me that being alone with him was safe, unlike the tension 1 felt with Nathan.
Carter sat in a chair across the room, maintaining a respectful distance. His posture was relaxed as he asked gently, how are we Teeling today? Are you and the baby doing alright?

I instinctively placed my hand on my slightly rounded belly, I’m feeling good. Really grateful that you’re letting me stay here, Alpha.”
‘Don’t call me Alpha, just Cart he smiled. “And you’re welcome. Eeipse welcomes all wolves who need shelter
He smiled warmly, then noticed the open magazine on the bed and exclaimed, his eyes brightening. “So I was right
“About what?” I asked, confused, my eyebrows slightly furrowed.
“I was thinking a few days ago that you must be bored by now, but the doctor insists you rest for the baby Carter explained, his gestures becoming animated. “I was wondering what might help you pass the time, See, I just had this feeling that you like to read! I was right!”
He seemed proud of his deduction, emitting a pleased scent.
“You weren’t just right, it’s like you read my thoughts through the mind link,” I smiled, feeling how contagious his enthusiasm was. “Just as I was thinking about reading, your maid brought them.”
“Ha, that’s how well I know what a pack needs!” Carter said dramatically, and I responded with a light laugh, feeling more relaxed
than had since coming here.
He walked to the window, showcasing that part of the room as sunlight streamed over his muscular frame. I’ll have them add a reading nook here, so if you want to sit up to read or sing, you have a place to do that in your room.”
With his back to the sun, his face was shadowed. I could only see his strong silhouette.
For a moment, I thought it was Nathan speaking to me, and my heart raced, my scent becoming tense.
“…what do you think, Rose?” Carter asked, sensing my mood shift.
I sighed inwardly. What was wrong with me?
Carter was not Nathan.
No matter how similar they looked, he was the opposite of the Ironjaw Alpha in every way. Nathan, for instance, would never ask for my opinion on anything, only issue irresistible Alpha commands.
I looked up to answer his question. “Carter, please do whatever you think is best. This is your place.”
“But it’s your room-” Carter countered, his voice gentle but firm.
I sighed, my fingers unconsciously caressing the moonstone pendant. “Carter, I appreciate your help. Really, without you, I can’t even imagine what would have happened to me and my kid…”
I had made up my mind. The sooner I left, the better. I could feel my heart constantly reminding me of the importance of
independence.
I couldn’t rely on others anymore… especially an Alpha who looked so much like Nathan.
“…but I can’t stay in Eclipse forever,” I continued, my voice becoming more determined.
